Players Are Farming This Coiled Isle Event for Gear and Reagents

Curse Surges are one of the activities you can do in the new zone of Patch 12.1, the Coiled Isle. Although they seem like simple boss events at first glance, they are the only source of certain rare reagents! Let’s take a look at everything that Curse Surges offer.

What Are Curse Surges?

Curse Surges are world events that happen in the Coiled Isle. There are five different Curse Surges, and they happen every 45 minutes. You can track these on the Events portion of your in-game map.

All Curse Surges follow the same structure: Complete a progression bar that usually involves killing mobs around the Curse Surge area, and then kill the final boss that becomes vulnerable once the progression bar is filled.

Curse Surge bosses are a good source of starter gear for alts, as they drop Adventurer-level gear. In addition to that, here are things you can get from them:

• Completing a Curse Surge rewards a bag that gives Gold, Voidlight Marl, and Adventurer Mistcrest.
• At Renown 4 with Zul’jarra’s Forces, your first Curse Surge for the day has a chance to drop a Corrosive Soul.
• At Renown 8 with Zul’jarra’s Forces, your first Curse Surge for the day has a chance to drop a piece of Warbound Veteran equipment.
• The achievement Turn the Surge requires you to defeat all five Curse Surges.
• The achievement Cursebreaker requires you to defeat 300 Curse Surges and rewards the Cursebreaker title.

In addition to these, defeating a Curse Surge enables Cursed Fishing and Envenomated Gathering in the nearby area via the Cursed Land and Waters buff.

Envenomated Gathering

After a Curse Surge is cleared in an area, special gathering nodes show up around the area. These are used specifically to collect Neutralized Venom Clot, a crafting reagent used in many new Patch 12.1 recipes.

• For Mining and Herbalism, Envenomated nodes show up around the Curse Surge area. These have a progress bar that you need to channel. Once the channel is done, the node disappears, and green orbs appear around where the node was. Gathering these grants around 12-15 Neutralized Venom Clots per orb. These nodes are only for Neutralized Venom Clots – You will not get the main resource from those nodes.
• For Skinning, skinning mobs while in an area with the Cursed Land and Waters buff has a chance to drop Neutralized Venom Clots.

Cursed Fishing

After a Curse Surge is cleared in an area, if you have access to Cursed Fishing, you can fish for Blightswarmer in the waters nearby. To gain access to Cursed Fishing, you need to complete the quest Venom Fishing: Proof is in the Ooze. You unlock the quest as you progress through the Captain Tokka reputation.

Blightswarmer does not have any use at the moment, but fishing it is required for the achievements Angler of The Coiled Isle and Toxic Trophies.

Captain Tokka Reputation
