Genshin Impact Farming Guides

Genshin Impact Farming Guides

Farming items is a core aspect of Genshin Impact. Any improvement you want to make to your character, be it leveling up, ascensions, enhancing artifacts, ascending weapons, etc. requires you to farm for materials in a very repetitive manner. This makes it very important to use proper farming strategies to gain valuable time.

What is Farming in Genshin Impact?

Usually, we refer to farming as the act of obtaining materials in a repetitive manner. In Genshin Impact, the rate at which you can farm materials is heavily gated by the daily and weekly resets as well as your available Original Resin (which repletes at a rate of 8 per minute and of which you can store a maximum of 160).

In the table below, we give an overview the categories of items you can farm, what they are used for, and what is limiting your ability to farm them.

Item Type Uses Limiting Factor(s)
Primogem Wishes Daily reset
Mora Everything Daily reset
Artifacts Character Improvement Original Resin
Local Specialty
  • Ascension
  • Crafting
  • Cooking
Daily reset
Character EXP Material Leveling Original Resin
Character and Weapon Enhancement Material
  • Character Ascension
  • Weapon Ascension
Daily reset
Character Level-Up Material Talent Leveling
  • Original Resin
  • Weekly reset (5-star)
Character Ascension Material Character Ascension
  • Daily reset
  • Weekly reset
Character Talent Material Talent Leveling Original Resin
Weapon Ascension Material Weapon Ascension Original Resin
Ore Crafting Daily reset

Note that we have omitted things like Material or Cooking Ingredient from this list. They too are somewhat limited by the daily reset, but they are available in such large quantities that you do not really need to farm them.

Now, we are going to go through each of these categories in more detail.

2.

Farming Primogems

There is a very very large supply of Primogems in Genshin's open world, with Chests, World Quests, Statues of the Seven, and the offerings of Elemental Sigils. It takes such a long time to clear out everything that it does feel like Primogems can indeed be farmed by simply completing all that the game has to offer (with the exception of Genius Invocation TCG content).

With that said, you can obtain Primogems with some regularity through the following sources.

Source Amount
Daily Commissions 60 daily
Blessing of the Welkin Moon 300 right away + 90 daily for 30 days
Events Varying (several hundreds usually)
Spiral Abyss 600 every 2 weeks if you clear everything with 3 stars
Battle Pass 680 every 6 weeks if you purchase the Gnostic Hymn and reach Level 50
3.

Farming Mora

Very similarly to Primogems, there is an very large supply of Mora in Genshin's Impact open world, with it being dropped from Chests and rewarded from World Quests.

You can also obtain Mora with some regularity from the following sources.

Source Amount
Expeditions Hymn 25,000 every 20 hours (a bit more if you have characters with specific passive abilities)
Daily Commissions between 50,000 and 55,000
Weekly Bounties 90,000 every week
Weekly Commissions 60,000 every week
Spiral Abyss 445,000 every 2 weeks if you clear all the floors
Battle Pass
  • 720,000 every 6 weeks if you reach Level 50
  • 2,160,000 extra if you buy the Gnostic Hymn
Events Varying (usually several 100,000s)
4.

Farming Artifacts

Each desirable 5-star Artifact set drops from a specific Domain. Because of the randomness of the stats on each artifact that drops, you simply need to farm the same domain over and over again until you get Artifacts with the stats you desire. There is no real farming strategy to farm faster.

Because opening the rewards from a Domain costs you 20 Original Resin or 1 Condensed Resin (which gives you double the rewards but cost 40 Original Resin + 1 Crystal Core to make), you are limited to 4.5 runs per day in average (more if you obtain Fragile Resin or Transient Resin).

5.

Farming Local Specialties

Local Specialties are items specific to one of the regions of Teyvat. They can be harvested from nodes with fixed locations and that respawn after 48 hours.

Farming a Local Specialty consists in visiting all the nodes using optimized routes to go as fast as possible. Please refer to the table below to find farming guides for the Local Specialties of Teyvat.

Windwheel Aster Mondstadt Windwheel Aster Farming Route Guide

Farming Character EXP Material

Character EXP Material are tomes that grant EXP to your characters and that can be found all over Teyvat through World Quests, Chests, Events, etc. This steady supply is usually enough for your needs. It is possible to farm for Character EXP Material by repeatedly doing Ley Line Outcrops, but this is not considered a very efficient use of Original Resin.

7.

Farming Character and Weapon Enhancement Material

Character and Weapon Enhancement Material can be farmed from enemies all over Teyvat. These enemies usually exist in large numbers and reset after 12 or 24 hours, which makes Character and Weapon Enhancement Material items some of the most farmable items in Teyvat.

We will eventually have farming guides for all of the Character and Weapon Enhancement Material items. In the meantime, you can head to the official map and select the enemy you want to farm to make them appear on the map.

8.

Farming Character Level-Up Material

5-star Character Level-Up Material items drop from Weekly Bosses (60 Original Resin per run, discounted to 30 for the first 3 bosses done in a week) and are used to level up talents while 4-star ones drop from Normal Bosses (40 Original Resin per run) and are used to ascend characters.

Like most items that are gated by Resin, you will simply farm Character Level-Up Material items based on your needs and the Resin you have available.

9.

Farming Character Ascension Material

Character Ascension Material are gems that you need to ascend your characters. They drop from Normal Bosses, just like the Character Level-Up Material items also used for Ascensions. Up until the 5th Ascension, farming for the Character Level-Up Material will also yield a sufficient number of gems that you do not need to farm them separately.

This changes with the 6th and last Ascension, where farming a Normal Boss will yield enough Character Level-Up Material, but not enough gems. We advise you to get the additional gems from doing Weekly Bosses. They give more gems per Original Resin spent (even after you have used up the 3 weekly discounted runs of 30 Original Resin) and they also give talent level up materials that you will always have use for.

10.

Farming Character Talent Material

Character Talent Material items are used for leveling up talents. Each item drops from a specific Domain, but only on 3 specific days of the week, either:

  • Monday, Thursday, Sunday;
  • Tuesday, Friday, Sunday;
  • Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday.

Each run costs 20 Original Resin (or 1 Condensed Resin for double the rewards) and as most Resin-gated items, there really is not a strategy to farm these. Simply do the domain as many times as necessary.

11.

Farming Weapon Ascension Material

Weapon Ascension Material items are used for ascending weapons. Each item drops from a specific Domain, but only on 3 specific days of the week, either:

  • Monday, Thursday, Sunday;
  • Tuesday, Friday, Sunday;
  • Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday.

Each run costs 20 Original Resin (or 1 Condensed Resin for double the rewards) and as most Resin-gated items, there really is not a strategy to farm these. Simply do the domain as many times as necessary.

12.

Farming Ore

Ore nodes reset between 24 and 72 hours, depending on the node type. There are so many nodes of each type that the reset timer is generally not a problem. Simply head to the official map, toggle the nodes for the ore that you are interested in and start planning your farming routes.
