Players Were Timing 96% of Their +10s in Week 6, But One Dungeon Keeps Falling Behind

Dungeons in Midnight Season 1

Week 6 of this Mythic+ in this season is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO. The second week of bonus rolls saw much more stable metrics, with a drop of just 1.02% and no major shifts behind it. After the rough Ascendant affix in week 5, Voidbound once again boosted success rates across the board. And the Asian metrics kept trending towards the established pattern of past seasons. But let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

The global drop-off of 1.02% is once again a product of a slight increase of 0.21% in China and a combined decrease of 1.86% in the other regions. But those also show individual differences. While the EU and the US saw a decline of 2.58% and 2.36%, KR and TW had an increase of 8.6% and 6.28%. Their global shares of around 2.5% and 1% are rather small, so they rarely tip the scales. The global share of Chinese metrics in week 6 increased to 40.82%.

Compared to previous seasons, the four regular regions were once again ahead in total runs but have dropped off more sharply since week 1. If we were to restrict this measurement to week 2 and onward, all 4 seasons compared in the 2nd graph, line up much closely. Their drop-off from week 2 to week 6 ranges from 21.81% to 24.31%, with MN S1 at 22.97%. It seems that the first week’s metrics can fluctuate much more than the rest, especially when tuning differences are that big. MN S1 is a lot easier than the other three seasons.

Total Runs Across All Dungeons

The split across all dungeons has widened a bit compared to the previous week. Pit and Spire, as well as Nexus-Point and Skyreach, swapped positions. The latter duo is rather close in general, so one overtaking the other is a given. But a switch in focus for bonus rolls could also be a reason. This became much more evident for Pit and Spire. Earlier in the season, Spire was sought after because of the trinket drop, but a lot of players have it already and are now focusing on other slots. Meanwhile, Pit is offering so many items with Crit and Haste, as well as three tier-piece slots. The least favorite dungeon, Maisara Caverns, kept trailing behind as usual.

The overall success rate shot up again by 1.99 percentage points to 91.29%. A switch in affixes can change a lot early in the season. Pit (92.78%) was once again ahead of Skyreach (92.60%). Seat (91.90%) remained in third while being the 2nd-to-last favorite. Academy (91.60%) saw the biggest increase (+4.05). But this is due to the delayed updates for timed runs after the timer nerf two weeks ago. Terrace (91.24%) and Spire (91.00%) led the lower half ahead of Nexus-Point (90.54%). And Maisara Caverns (87.74%) was once again dead last. The gap from Maisara up to Nexus-Point (2.80 points) is actually larger than the gap from Nexus-Point all the way to Pit (2.24 points).

Split Across All Key Levels

85.98% of all keys were completed at key level 10 and higher. 35.23% at key level 10 alone. A minor change compared to week 5. The shift from level 10 to 12 is becoming more significant. With a 16.06% share, this is the only mid-range key that saw improvements in absolute numbers (+3.47%) and relative share (+4.36%). Low-level keys only saw an increase at level 3. This is a bit of an anomaly since it is the least-played key level in general. High keys at level 15 and higher saw increases across the board. +16 keys broke 100,000 timed runs in one week. The addition of the 3,400 rating mount tokens helps a lot. We also saw the first completed +23 key in week 6. And at the time of writing this article, the first +23 was timed in week 7.

The increase in the overall success rate is clearly tied to the change in affixes. Between key levels 5 and 11, the percentage increased across the board by 1.64 to 4.80 points. 96.28% of all +10s were timed. The gap from level 6 to 7 shrank to just 5.81 percentage points. Lately, the key levels beyond the 3,000 rating threshold have shown a rather consistent pattern. Their in-time percentage hovers consistently between 83% and 85%. 1 in 7 high-level keys was finished as depleted. Usually, there is a much more pronounced arc in the in-time graph between level 13 and the current level ceiling.

Conclusion and Week 7 Forecast

The performance early in the season remains quite solid. But the development team needs to address certain outliers. The Ascendant affix stands out too much. The increase in its cast timer helped a bit, but maybe the number of orbs is a bigger problem. And regarding dungeons, we have yet another seasonal outlier. Maisara Caverns needs a nerf, preferably for its trash or the gauntlet towards the final boss. Otherwise, it will turn into yet another City of Threads, Grim Batol (both TWW S1) or Ara-Kara (TWW S3).

As of this writing, 120 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers for the US and the EU are trailing behind by 10.55% and 10.67%, while CN is once again slightly ahead by 2.59%. It seems that Asian players are drifting back from other games or modes (Classic) over time. But that will be part of the next breakdown.
