One of the biggest announcements during the Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) Version 3.1 Special Program wasn’t just the addition of a free S-Rank Agent selector. It was who HoYoverse decided to include as an option.
Almost immediately after the livestream ended, players across Reddit and social media began reaching the same conclusion: if your account doesn’t already have Lucia, she’s the clear frontrunner. While every roster has different needs, the community seems surprisingly united on which Agent offers the most universal value.
Lucia is Already Emerging as the Clear Favorite
The biggest reason is simple. Lucia is currently the game’s only S-Rank Rupture Support, giving her a role that no other Agent can fully replace. Rather than competing with your primary damage dealer for field time, she:
- Strengthens Rupture teams and
- Provides Ether Veils, which are critical buffs for every Rupture Agent.
While her buffs are only valuable for Rupture setups, obtaining Lucia for free means upgrading from Pan Yinhu, which is substantial — especially since players get to obtain her S-Rank W-Engine for free as well.
Support characters also tend to age far better than traditional DPS units. New Attack and Anomaly agents are released regularly, but premium supports often remain relevant for much longer. This is thanks to enabling team archetypes instead of replacing them. That’s a huge reason why so many players were surprised to see Lucia included in the free selector at all.
That doesn’t mean the other options are bad. Jane Doe, Trigger, Hugo, and Soldier 0 – Anby all have plenty to offer, especially if you’re filling out a specific team or picking up a personal favorite. If you already own Lucia, there’s a strong argument to pick up someone else.
But if you’re Lucia-less and trying to save for the future, the community’s advice is remarkably consistent. Getting one of the game’s premier support characters completely free is one of the rarest kind of anniversary reward players usually dream about. And for many players, Lucia is the easiest recommendation HoYoverse has made all year.
