Zenless Zone Zero Players Are Already Doubting Roxy Before Her Release

Roxy was heavily featured alongside Claret in the buildup to the new Armorer class, making the pair look like one of the major character duos of Version 3.2. Yet once the actual story arrived, Roxy barely got the spotlight. Some Zenless Zone Zero players in the community have even compared her debut to Seed and Orphie’s earlier treatment, arguing that the character received plenty of promotion before being pushed to the side once the story actually got moving.

That would already be a strange situation for a character arriving in the second half of the update. But Roxy has another problem waiting for her: players aren’t entirely convinced they need her on their Claret teams, either.

Roxy Barely Got to Be Part of Her Own Debut

The bulk story complaints are pretty straightforward. Players aren’t necessarily saying Roxy is a bad character or that she needed to dominate the entire Version 3.2 storyline. The problem is that she’s a limited S-Rank character arriving later in the update, yet her actual presence in the main story has been remarkably small. One highly upvoted discussion specifically called out how little attention she received compared to the other major characters.

ZZZ’s Roxy and Claret are both tied directly to Flint Workshop, and the official Version 3.2 materials positioned them together as two major new Agents. Roxy is even described as Claret’s assistant and the chief smith of Flint Workshop. Even so, Claret ultimately receives far more narrative attention. The lack of attention is what has left some players wondering whether Roxy’s story relevance was simply pushed into future updates.

Based off the conclusion of 3.2, Roxy will likely be featured to some degree in 3.3, but the amount likely will pale in comparison to her actual patch debut. This is the nature of the beast. That has fueled complaints that Roxy’s debut period gives players surprisingly little reason to become invested in her, with some specifically hoping Version 3.3 gives her more to do. The whole ordeal is a bit surprising for a character who was marketed so heavily alongside Claret.

Players Aren’t Convinced Roxy Is a Must-Pull Even for Claret

Story isn’t the only place where Roxy’s purpose is being questioned. Nobody needs to pretend Roxy is weak. She’s an S-Rank Wind Stun Agent and her kit has specific tools designed to work alongside Claret’s new Armorer mechanics. Roxy is currently considered Claret’s strongest dedicated Stun partner, particularly because of the Laceration support and additional Ultimate generation she provides.

The problem is that Norma already gives Claret another extremely competitive option. Her ability to extend and prolong Claret’s Crimson Inscription state through Chain Attacks makes her invaluable to teams built around maintaining Claret’s damage window, and that has led players to question whether Roxy provides enough of an upgrade to justify spending limited pulls on her, or if she’s even an upgrade at all. Recent discussions around Claret teams show players weighing Roxy against Norma rather than treating Roxy as an obvious requirement.

The reality is that Roxy can be a strong partner for Claret without being a necessary one, and that’s exactly where most of the community’s skepticism is coming from. Players are already debating whether they should spend their Polychromes on Roxy, stick with Norma, or simply wait for whatever character comes next. Roxy doesn’t need to be bad to have a problem. She just needs to be replaceable, which in the meta, she currently is, even before her official release.
