Gold in Diablo 4

Gold is the primary and most important currency in Diablo 4, and is used to buy items, upgrade gear, craft potions, and more. Let’s have a look at some of the ways on how to farm Gold efficiently. For an overview of all the currencies in Diablo 4, we have a separate guide.

How to Get Gold

World Events

You can check the map for events and complete them to earn Gold, Legendaries, and XP. For example, the world event located northwest of the Bear Tribe Refuge Waypoint in the Fractured Peaks is an easy event to complete and rewards you with a good amount of gold. You can also teleport back to town, sell unwanted items, and then portal back to the event to farm it repeatedly.

Please note: when you teleport in the open world, you are moved to a session with a specific number of players, and not all players are in the same session. Each time a player uses the town portal in the open world, they are placed in a new session. By using the teleport back to town and portal back to the event, you have a chance to be placed in a session where the event has just spawned, allowing you to farm the event repeatedly in that session. This strategy can be an effective way to optimize farming.

Dungeons

It is possible to repeatedly farm dungeons for gold by defeating every foe within. While any dungeon can technically be farmed, some offer better farming routes and can yield greater rewards for less time invested. Let’s have a look at some dungeons that are known for their farming potential early in the game, and are located within the first zone, the Fractured Peaks.

  • Anica’s Claim
This dungeon, located near the Bear Tribe Waypoint in Fractured Peaks, is an excellent spot for farming gold in the early game. To unlock this dungeon, you must first clear out the Malnok Stronghold. Once inside the dungeon, you should focus on killing all the foes, particularly Elites which spawn regularly.

To optimize farming, you can teleport back to town once your inventory is full and sell unwanted items before returning to the dungeon, resetting it, and starting again. Additionally, for a varied farming route, you can incorporate the nearby world event into your routine, alternating between completing the event and the dungeon. This strategy maximizes gold farming efficiency while still providing an engaging gameplay experience.

  • Dead Man’s Dredge
Yet another dungeon in the Fractured Peaks that can be an efficient spot for farming Gold – Dead Man’s Dredge. It is recommended to only run a circuit around the circular zone after entering the dungeon and loot everything while defeating foes along the way. Afterward, you can finish or reset the dungeon and then repeat this process for optimal results.

Additional Ways to Get Gold

  • Completing main story quests will reward gold.
  • Some side quests offer higher gold rewards, so focus on farming those.
  • Killing enemies can also yield gold, especially with an active greed shrine (gold) buff.
  • Looting treasure chests, corpses, and other objects will also grant gold. Also: keep an eye out for loot goblins!
  • Exploring cellars can lead to gold rewards.
  • Selling unwanted gear to vendors is the best way to earn gold. However, you should decide what to salvage and what to sell for maximum profit.
  • Leveling Renown grants around 10,000 gold per step, and Renown activities can also offer gold rewards.
  • Gambling with Obols and then selling unwanted items.
  • Completing levels within the Pit.

What is Gold Used For?

Buying, Repairing, and Upgrading Gear

Visiting the Blacksmith in Diablo 4 is an important aspect of maintaining and improving the character’s equipment. Repairing, purchasing, and upgrading gear through tempering and masterworking are all key functions of the Blacksmith and require a significant amount of Gold. Improving your gear is especially important, as it directly increases the character’s stats and overall power. It is advised to repair gear regularly, as gear with zero durability will no longer provide any benefits until it is repaired.

The various activities that the Jeweler performs also cost gold.

Crafting

In Diablo 4, players will have access to a wide variety of materials, gems, consumables, and other items that can be collected and crafted at various NPCs. These items include monster parts, salvaged materials, and various gem fragments, each of which can be used to craft higher versions of themselves. However, crafting always requires a certain amount of gold and cannot be done for free.

Imprinting Legendary Aspects

The Occultist offers a system for imprinting legendary aspects into certain types of gear, making it a significant gold spending opportunity. In order to take full advantage of this system, you should save your gold and salvage valuable aspects from unused gear to improve your aspects through the Codex of Power.

Resetting the Skill Tree and Paragon Board

The Skill Tree and Paragon Board in Diablo 4 offer the flexibility to experiment with different builds and abilities. If you desire to change your Skills or Paragon points, you can reset the skill tree at any point in the game, provided you have sufficient Gold.

Potion Upgrades and Elixirs

You have the option to upgrade your potion vial as you progress in levels by visiting with the Alchemist and paying a fee in gold. These upgrades are beneficial as they increase the amount of life that the potion vial can restore. Additionally, the alchemist is able to craft various, useful elixirs that can grant different stats or bonuses, as well as a small buff to experience gain.

Summary

The most important tip we can give is to try and balance the salvaging and selling of gear, as it is a big part of generating gold. Keeping an eye on gold earned and spent is equally as important as collecting various crafting materials, if not more so.
