Build Introduction

Desecrated Bone SpiritBone Spirit brings you an overcomplicated version of BlightBlight build gameplay, with the highest gear requirements and the most extreme Essence management. Despite that, high investment into the build brings you the highest damage output not just among Damage over Time builds, but the entire Necromancer class – rivalled only by the infamous Blood WaveBlood Wave.

Skill Bar and Skill Tree Points

Suggested Skill Bar
Bone SpiritBone SpiritSoulriftSoulriftSkeleton MageSkeleton MageBone PrisonBone PrisonBlood MistBlood MistSeverSever

Use the Skill Tree above to complete the 83-point build. 69 skill points are gained by leveling, and 14 skill points are locked behind the Season Rank System or Renown for Seasonal or Eternal characters, respectively.

Blood MistBlood Mist is the lowest priority skill, and only the last Skill Points are used to level it above 1/15.

The new Lord of Hatred expansion Skill Tree unlocks in stages, permanently unlocking new skill clusters. For example, Necromancer Curses unlock at level 13, so from level 13 it is possible to refund all previously allocated skill points and start leveling skills starting from the Curses cluster right away (or anywhere above it).

Skill points from the Season Rank System or Renown do not affect Skill Tree progress and can be allocated to skill ranks you already unlocked.

Season Mechanics

Splinters of Evil

In Season of Hell’s Legacy, the first layer of seasonal powers will consist of the three Splinters of Evil, acquired by completing the seasonal questline and defeating echoes of Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral, Baal at Arreat Summit, and Mephisto within the Durance of Hate.

Splinters of Evil will periodically erupt with iconic powers of certain elements, associated with each Prime Evil:

  • Fire for Diablo
  • Cold for Baal
  • Physical for Mephisto

Based solely on Necromancer’s damage type scaling vectors – expectations of the impact on builds performance, besides very early progression – are not promising. Full extent of Splinters potential is to be discovered, depending on potential synergies.

Main consideration for first Splinter of Evil choice is expected to be in activity modifiers. Only one Prime Evil Soul Splinter can be used at a time, but there is a mechanism to change. Due to Helltide being the most common early progression activity, it is recommended to acquire Diablo’s Splinter of Terror first.

Duplicitous Soul Splinters

The second layer of seasonal powers consists of Duplicitous Soul Splinters gems to be slotted into jewelry and the newly introduced Leoric’s Crown helm. You can equip up to three Soul Splinters among available Jewelry slots.

Leoric’s Crown gem slots have the effects of jewelry and the effectiveness of anything slotted in it – could be more than doubled, depending on the Unique Aspect roll.

Duplicitous Soul Splinters gems provide sizeable buffs to some stats at the price of heavy penalties to others, like Splinter of Hellfire providing up to 50%[x] damage multiplier, depending on tier, but always at the cost of 100% Critical Strike Chance.

Recommended Duplicitous Soul Splinters setup can be looked up in Gems and Runewords.

Talismans

The Lord of Hatred expansion introduces Talismans as a new character progression and itemization layer. Find, equip, and fill a suitable Horadric Seal with a variety of Charms. These grant everything from plain stats similar to any gear piece to powerful set effects, doubling down on and elevating Necromancer archetypes to new heights.

This builds Talisman goalposts would be:

  • Legendary Seal with +1 Charm Slot affix, to unlock 6 Charm slots as soon as possible.
  • Full Berú of DesecrationBerú of Desecration Set of any quality. 5-set takes priority over any other Charms.
  • Charms replacements with better versions of themselves, including affixes like:
    • + to Darkness Skills (highest priority on Charms)
    • + Maximum Resource (high priority on Seal)
    • +% Attack Speed (only on Seal)
    • +% Damage Multiplier (high priority only on Seal)
  • Noteworthy Unique Charms:
    • Endurant FaithEndurant Faith – extreme survivability by spreading incoming damage over time; very useful for early Mephisto or Echo of Lilith kills
    • Will of RathmaWill of Rathma – mediocre, but easy, temporary damage multiplier with no downsides
  • Seal of the Diamond MindSeal of the Diamond Mind to unlock 4 Berú of DesecrationBerú of Desecration + 2 Berú of the Black ShroudBerú of the Black Shroud setup for The Gloom WardThe Gloom Ward synergy

Mercenaries

During the Vessel of Hatred campaign, you will unlock Mercenaries to assist you. While you can choose freely early on, we recommend Raheir as your main merc to help with survivability:

For the reinforcement, stick with Varyana, utilizing BloodthirstBloodthirst on Skill Cast.
