Hi, I'm new to WoW.. I need a bit of advice and Tips please!

I just started WoW properly 3 days ago, I bought subscriptions but lost interest fast the first few times I tried so I decided I'd finally give it a chance this week and I've been addicted! I boosted a character to L90 (because of the WoL expansion) and I've been getting a lot of abuse every now and then I do a dungeon so I'm not sure if I'm enjoying the player aspect of the community yet!

 

Are there any basic beginner guides I could read? I could only find class specifics and such and not much that would help me as a newcomer..

Any add-ons and suggestions are great, advice is amazing too!

 

Info regarding me and my play style

 

I currently play on Ragnaros, I like to play and converse with others as I go, I enjoy ranged characters and Archers are my favourite (I also enjoy Tanking, Healing and Assassins)

I hope none of you guys are assholes to newcomers because I had a dungeon today where I received abuse for being new and "ruining people's WoW gameplay" please note that you ruin the new guys game when he first starts and it's not a big encouragement to someone who wants to explore other games! =)

You say archer, so I assume that you are referring to hunter?  That would be the closest class-translation in WoW.  We have a pretty good Hunter sub-fourm that's been fairly active with the new expansion, and there are many helpful people there.  Also, you won't find many people here that can be considered abusive.  Abrasive, maybe, but not abusive.

There's a thread that's a bit old, but the person who created it was in much of the same position as you are, and there are a lot of good replies in it.

There's not really a general guide per say, only the class/spec specific guides, but those go into detail of most every aspect of that class/spec, and usually what isn't in the guides is in the forums, as a lot of good discussion goes on there.

As far as addons go, I use ElvUI, which is a complete UI overhaul, but it comes out really nice and clean, along with being very customizable.  Another addon that is popularly suggested is Weak Auras, but using WA comes with a learning curve as to setting up the auras/icons that you want and getting them to do what you want them to do.

Thanks! This was generally what I wanted, I knew there were good addons worth getting but I was unsure as to what to get.. I just wanted to basically put myself into a position to ask people "hey, if you was a new guy to WoW, what would you show yourself to learn more about the game?" sort of thing :) Thanks dude!

The only thing I'd like to mention is that a lot of players will be helpful if you ask them to.

Whenever you start any dungeon simply state that you are new to the game and any advise would be appreciated. In most cases people will be very understanding.

Don't let anyone get your spirit down. If you stick with it you'll come to understand the game better and better.

People don't like being surprised. If they go into a dungeon they are expecting to clear it fast and without problems. If you fucked up because you don't know certain mechanics, they will be pissed. Best solution is simply to ask question, I've seen plenty of example of people who were new and got #rekt in dungeons/raid and an equal number who were being helped simply because they stated that they were new and needed help or asked question.

 

Find a guild, a good open-minded one, where you can ask question and join people in content. The whole concept of MMORPG is to do things with friends. If I didn't have friends to raid with, I would not be raiding nor playing WoW at all. Find people you like to play with, add them to your friend list, ask them to join you in questing or dungeon and have fun. You'd be surprised the number of RL friend you can make through this. I've been talking/playing with some for over 5 years even though we're not in the same country and I'm planning to visit two of them next summer.

One suggestion I wanna make is treasure your moments as a newbie, they're the most exciting moments you can ever have in WoW. I remember when I was new, levelling my panda priest (yeah, I started last expansion) I had no idea how to get into Un'Goro Crater, so I jumped down and had to corpse run my way there, not realising I had this spell called "levitate" which would've saved me from dying. 
I look back on the little things like that and just chuckle at how nooby I was, but it was fun and enjoyable. But as the others have suggested, state in dungeons/instances that you're a new player and your not sure of any of the boss mechanics - some people will be real assholes, but others will be kind, considerate and patient with you. Just, don't let any of the assholes put you off the game. 

And also, since you've boosted a character, I would HIGHLY suggest going back with a fresh character at some point and level up from level 1. That way you get a better feel of the game. (although, I don't blame you getting addicted during Draenor content, I had an absolute blast levelling through it)

Adding on what Kuhla said, once you play from Lv 1, you get to enjoy all the whole past expansions and the lore, if you're into that. A lot of interesting stuff is scattered over the game, and you only get to know those if you experience passing through it with the suitable level for the moment. =)
