Tanking Blackhand and Shattering Smash

2 posts in this topic

Hey everyone,

I tank for my guild on my brewmaster monk, along with a Deathknight. Last night we started doing progression attempts on blackhand, and a couple of times we got him down to 20% in phase three, which is awesome.

My problem goes back to the begining of the fight, the Shattering Smashes. I tank first, and my guild was able to push the boss into phase two with about 3 Shattering Smashes, a couple times two. The first one I can position myself so I take minimal, if any, Molten Slag damage. Then the Other tank gets launched, and all seems well, healers pop a cooldown/leap of faith him back to the center.

It's the third Shattering Smash that nearly kills me every time as a tank. I get knocked and take a ton of damage from the molten slag, and then the staggered damage from the smash. Each time we had a third Shattering Smash I felt like I was nearly dying. I pop a cool down each time, and generally save a guard for the smash. Then when I get control back I either immediate use my transcendance if it's in range, or use two rolls to get out of the molten slag.

Is there anything else I can be doing to help survive or mitigate the damage from this third smash?

I'm going to talk to my priests to see if they can't just make a macro to grab me with Leap of Faith as I'm flying.

You can do multiple things. Our guild is running with two or more priests which just takes turn at LoF on 2nd and 3rd smash.

If you don't have enough LoFs available I would recommend you to start using you raids full utility and ask for Vigilance/Sac in addition to your own CDs. We usually do a sac/vigi/bark-rotation in P1 just to mitigate as much as possible.
