BM or MM?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I now have a 698 hunter (Funtardon EU) and I am wonderig whether to go beast mastery or marksman because Icyveins (and I trust the guides quite a bit) say bm and everyone else says MM. Is there some sort of guideline or something?

That is one part of the guides here that is "outdated" so to speak.  In Hellfire Citadel, MM is the go-to spec not only for it's higher single target damage, but also for it's infinitely better priority target damage.  BM looses a lot with your pet having to run around chasing the next priority target and thus loosing uptime.  The only fight where BM can be considered as "better" is on Xhul'horac, and that is only if your group needs the AoE dps to kill the imps, however, if that is an issue then I'd say your group has other problems.

To iterate on the SV changes:

25% buff to abilities that account for at most 60% of your damage, for an overall 15% buff.  This puts SV at more-than-barely-above tanks in damage output.  Outside of that, SV isn't viable not due to it's damage, but rather that it has no burst and thus no way to make a priority target die faster, which is the name of the game in HFC.  SV is mechanically flawed in this regard and should honestly never be taken for a progression spec in it's current iteration.

""" BM looses a lot with your pet having to run around chasing the next priority target and thus loosing uptime. :""

--Look, blink strikes mandatory ; 1st thing

your pet teleports, no downtime. MM has downtime if you have to move.

bm better sustained dps, more survivability,

mm consistent, huge burst damage, loses to bm in 1v1

Orthios: Fixed the quote.  Don't put your reply inside of a quote please.

Ok, blink strikes, lets see just how big of a dps loss BS is compared to Stampede:

2.8k dps LOSS to use Blink Strikes vs using Stampede, so no, Blink Strikes is NOT mandatory.  Not to mention Blink Strikes has a 20s ICD.

MM has no downtime at all whatsoever, as all of a MM hunter's damage comes from the hunter (as in HFC you should be using Lone Wolf for every encounter), who can cast everything while moving.

BM does not have better sustained dps.  Marksman does, by over 3k dps, and even more if you were to choose Blink Strikes over Stampede.

More survivability is a matter of knowing the fight mechanics and not getting hit by shit.  Besides, Iron Hawk vs Spirit Bond:  a flat 10% DR vs 2% heal every 2s - the 10% DR is going to be more useful in HFC due to the fact that if something is going to kill you, it's going to be one or two big hits, not a bunch of small ones.

As for loosing in a 1v1, nobody was talking about PvP in this thread, at all.  This point is unnecessary and irrelevant.

I suggest you read Azor and Niix's hunter guides and familiarize yourself with the current hunter meta before making such comments about what is better.
