My DPS, in the words of Immortan Joe, mediocre! :`(

5 posts in this topic

Spec: DW frost

Character: Tazuny

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): My guild asked me to switch from my mage to my DK alt a bit over a month as we were light on melee at the time for raiding. So keep in mind, I don't have my fully upgraded legendary ring (work in progress) and I'm still under-geared and/or unoptimized in some areas (chest trinkets, ect). Having said that, I don't think my DPS should be as low as it is. I've used AMR to do some combat log comparisons, but honestly I'm not very good at deciphering what I need to pivot on as far as changing my behavior. I've noticed that usually the amount of damage done by others FS and HB are considerably higher than my own.

I got my 4 piece last week which has helped some, but not as much as I'd expect. Any advice to help me become a bit less mediocre? Thanks!

Hey Tazuny,

Equipment wise I would really work on changing out your second trinket as well as getting  a new chest piece. That will make a bit of a difference for sure, outside of that the rest of your armor seems fine considering you are working on it.

Logs wise your soul reaper damage seems low in some fights; that being said make sure during execute phase that you are saving BT and PL to ensure that you can reap on CD.

Lastly, as a general tip; defile does in fact sim higher but you need to be very confident in fights that when you use it all ticks will hit the boss, NP will give you better results overall I think until then. Also if you insist on using defile make sure you are refreshing your blood plague as soon as it drops or if you PL. You will see a fair difference if you optimize this as well.

I agree on the quote below. Use NP until you get more gear and EDH and I will still recommend using it in some fights afterwards.

Thank you both for the feedback, I sincerely appreciate it.  Replaced that horrid trinket last night!  Still working on that chest piece though ;) I've put a TMW monitor up for when PL is off cool-down so I'll be more aware of when it's available for me to use for resource generation.

I've been saving BT's more once I near the execution phase of a fight and that's helped as well; however, I've been generously using them before that so I don't sit at my BT cap.  Plus I've switched back to NP.  Seeing some positive results.  Hopefully I'll get better as I get used to playing in a slightly more correct fashion.

Thanks again!

I happen to be in a position where I can compare my own logs to yours, as our gear levels are very similar.

My guild ran normal HFC this week and I was the lowest-geared person in the raid, at ilvl 693.

I also have zero tier pieces and no t18 trinkets, so I would gladly trade gear with you.   =)

That being said, I pulled 41,600 on Kormrok this week which puts me in the 86% percentile on AMR for my gear/spec.

I compared my log to yours, and there are 2 main differences that I can see:

#1 - You don't have enough mastery. I realize that's not a quick fix, but you're at 43.7% whereas I'm over 56% at a similar gear level. Several of the pieces I'm wearing are upgraded 695 baleful pieces, and in every case I've kept fishing for pieces with mastery on them before I upgraded them. Make mastery a priority.

#2 - The other thing I noticed was that you cast HB 10 more times than I did (your fight was longer), but I had 15 more HB hits than you did.  Those are hands hits. Make sure you don't go into the hands phase low on frost/death runes. Have several available to spam HB on the hands.

Here's my log for comparison (Foetality):
