optimisation for heroics (tank)

3 posts in this topic

I've started doing some Heroic progression now, with norushen down and on farm we have moved onto juggernaut because we have great healers and high DPS. However I take an absolute beating when I'm taking the boss and have to pop cooldowns all over the place. I'm currently sitting at about 200% mastery and 40% parry when buffed.

I also struggle to take all 3 mines, either I can't reach the third in time or by the time I get there my health is so low from the other 2 that I'd die from taking a third, we cover this by having a rotation of which DPS wil take my third mine but obviously this is extra damage output and loss of damage that we could do without in this fight!

Hello. I'd suggest not ignoring all socket bonus's they give a good amount of stam and you don't lose out on much riposte and it reduces spikey damage while tanking the boss cause your dodge will be slightly higher but other then that try taking deaths advance telling your group to be more stacks there should be 2 marks in where your groups i'll say spreads in some what of a line so all the mines are clustered. as for taking all the mines i normally just deathstrike the mine before i jump on it giving me about a 120-250k sheild knocking off a lot of the damage and remember you can actually taunt on 2 stacks for the first set of stacks so u can grab bombs easier but other then that maybe another stam trinket I'd also suggest you guys progress on immers/sha/protectors/galakras before doing iron jug help boost your ilvl maybe not to per-say you can't do it or your raid can't do it it just kinda works out better it could also be a healer problem as in they aren't to use having to heal you since theres a lot of magical damage going out on that fight it kinda does suck for a dk (maybe not a lot but a decent amount) But yeah like i said i think changing your gems and deathstriking the mines before you jump on that will help (you can target the mines) and also having your group group up so the mines are closer            Sorry this is all typed in one long run on sentence but :x

AMS is your friend on Iron Jug, use it as often as you can. I usually use it on the first flame vents cast after I taunt the boss. That way it will be up again when I need to get bombs. using AMS on the first bomb you click negates the bomb's damage, and also absorbs the dot that's on you from flame vent for a few seconds. (the dot is the #1 thing that will kill you while you're doing bombs)

also remember you can still rune tap, health pot, healthstone, and death pact in mid air if it looks like you may not survive a fall after clicking a mine.

Other than that, the boss does hit fairly hard, just manage your cooldowns as best as you can while actively tanking the boss. using AMS to stop the dot for a few seconds will make a huge difference though if you aren't currently using it.
