My opener is: Ambush -> RvS -> ST (til 5 Combos) -> SnD -> Adrenaline Rush -> Vanish -> Ambush -> Prep -> Vanish -> Ambush -> Build Up Combos/Eviscerating/Refreshing SnD until AR falls then I expel all Energy I can and THEN use KS.

I'm curious if this an optimal opener? I know that saving Cooldowns for Higher Insight isn't optimal but I felt like using AR first made more sense than KS. Am I wrong? Also I don't do the whole RvS spamming to delay Bandit's Guile, a bit too advanced for me for what is likely not a substantial DPS gain.

I know in my logs it's clear I have terrible SnD uptime (I use NeedToKnow to keep track of my buffs but I sometimes get eviscerate happy and misjudge my Energy Regen to refresh it in time or paying too much attention to not dying).

Are there any other flaws that you guys/gals can pick up that could help me perform better?

First KS, then AR. Finishers decrease cooldown on your DPS CDs. Plus, usually trinkets pop up on your opener, so you'll have a good amount of damage on it.

When I used to play as Combat, I'd open with Ambush > RvS > SS till energy drops (used to be 2) > SnD > KS > Vanish > Ambush > Vanish > Ambush > AR > Evisc > SS and Evisc spam to your heart's content.

By the end of your AR, if you managed to fit a lot of Eviscs, your KS will be off CD already, ready to pop it out and possibly within Deep Insight.

As for SnD refresh, refresh it with 6~8s, as Carrn told me to.

NEVER save KS and AR. Try to time on your Insights, but don't delay them too much.

Lip, quick correction - save SnD for after KS just to not waste time. Other than that, sounds about right. You can avoid Deep Insight for a while until KS comes back up - build to 9cp with RvS then SS > KS > Double Evis for big damage and good cdr on KS. If you wait less than like 8-ish seconds, it's still worth the 10% damage boost on KS and 2x Evis. Otherwise, a general rule of thumb is that if you're not going to advance a level of Insight in the next 4 seconds, just cast KS and don't worry about saving for Evis casts

I also normally save my Vanishes until after the second KS, because I'll be in Deep Insight - after I get out of the first one, I pop AR and go nuts, then I'll get KS again and Vanish > Ambush. I normally don't have time for the second Vanish, so I'll pop prep+Vanish later in the fight. Especially with Glyph of Disappearance, it doesn't take long for Vanish to come back anyways, so I don't worry too much

Other than that, as you said your SnD uptime is awful. If Need To Know isn't working for you, you can try my WeakAuras that I stickied. I'll be updating them in the near future

It's probably a "6 of one, half dozen of another" scenario where it makes no difference whatsoever. I like refreshing SnD later, and since I don't play the spec as often it helps me get in more of a mindset to only spend cp after using KS, so I don't fuck up and waste possible cdr

More of a personal way of doing things rather than somethign which will actually boost dps

My preferred opener involves using slice at 5 points and killing spree once I hit shallow insight. I found some rudimentary math that tells me it's worth having slice up and waiting until shallow insight. On top of that, the timing works out really well in that a 5 point slice should last you until AFTER deep insight ends and still give you enough time to refresh it while insight is down. What do you fellas think?

Sounds like we're talking about the same thing. The key before casting KS at the start is to deplete your energy bar as much as possible, so as to avoid capping while you bounce around. This will often result in getting your Shallow Insight, but if you're 1 SS away then yeah absolutely get the 4th one off. Like I said before, if you're going to advance Insight in the next 4 seconds, it's worth waiting on KS

Thank you very much. I've gotten Weak Auras, I kinda like seeing the Icon and Numbers rather than a bar so hopefully that'll help with SnD uptime. Would Subterfuge potentially be a better First Tier talent to help spend Energy more quickly for KS?

No. It'd prove a DPS loss because you'd fit less damage per energy spent. The main idea here is to USE energy, not WASTE. Go with Shadow Focus, that'll yield you more damage and CPs that you can pool or use on finishers, up to your taste.

I always read your name as WARpig. WARRRRRR.
