Ayato Main DPS Build

Ayato's strength lies in his strong damage output to both multiple and single targets. His damage is consistent and sustained with a decent Energy Recharge requirement of 150-170%. He provides a valuable source of on-field Hydro application, but truly shines when paired with a team who can buff his on-field Hydro damage.

There is little debate on Ayato's strongest weapon, Haran Geppaku Futsu. This weapons boasts a passive built specifically for Ayato's abilities. It provides a 2-stack buff for elemental damage that can be built up when other party members use their Elemental Skills. This is then consumed by Ayato when you use his Elemental Skill, Kamisato Art: Kyouka, amplifying his normal attacks.

A strong alternative weapon is the Primordial Jade Cutter, this weapon offers a great passive that increases your ATK based upon your maximum HP. It is always active and requires no conditions. Lastly, a good 4-star options is The Black Sword. This weapon has valuable CRIT Rate and normal attack bonus, it also provides a passive healing effect to Ayato. Keep it at Rank 1 though as refining it not worth it.

For Ayato's Artifact choice, there are three very similar options for him to pick from. Each one has its own benefits, but all are equally good choices for him.

  • Heart of Depth set should be used for a fast rotational team with a good amount of Energy Recharge.
  • Next is the Gladiator's Finale with its flat increase to normal attack for sword users, plus the 2-piece bonus of more ATK %.
  • Lastly, we have the Echoes of an Offering, which has a 36% chance to boost our normal attack by a significant amount with no cooldown. However, this boost is only for a single attack.

As you can see, each set is unique in what it offers for Ayato's normal attack, ultimately, the choice is up to each player.

Combos and How to Play Ayato

Ayato is not a difficult character to play. His skills all auto-target and the hardest part about his tool kit is simply using them under the right conditions. This comes into play when we use him as a Hydro driver for several Elemental Reactions. Due to his auto targeting abilities, even playing him sloppily does not mean death. Ayato tends to play within two major team comps.

  • The first is simply a team that buffs his normal attacks with so much power that they instantly kill everything on the map, dealing extremely high Hydro damage.
  • The second camp uses him as a driver for elemental reactions, taking advantage of not only his high normal attack speed, but adding in his ability to enable reactions with Hydro.

The only thing you need to succeed with Ayato is an understanding of his abilities, which are both very simple. His Elemental Skill, Kamisato Art: Kyouka, produces a clone of himself that attacks enemies in a radius for six seconds, but it also puts him into a state of rapid attacking. During this state all he can do is normal attacks, but he will gain Namisen stacks (up to 4 at C0 and 5 at C2) which will increases his damage output.

His Elemental Burst, Kamisato Art: Suiyuu, which is a great Hydro driver, is his bread and butter for triggering massive Elemental Reactions. It produces 36 water droplets that each attacks enemies with a small radius AoE of Hydro damage and boosts his normal attacks while inside the skill's radius. This skill puts his damage abilities on full display and allows his teammates to add their elemental effects to complement his damage with Elemental Reactions. What elements you choose to add to his burst ability need to be able to stay on-field after they have been cast, so they do not get cancelled when their character leaves the field for Ayato.

Ayato's Best Team Comps

4.1.

Ayato Vaporize Team

Main DPS Off-fielder Sub DPS Buffer
Kamisato Ayato Xiangling Bennett

With this Vaporize, we once again are going to focus on Ayato and amplify his damage through Bennett's Elemental Burst, then we use Anemo flex character to drop both of their skills on our opponents to add Swirl and to shred resistances with the Viridescent Venerer set. Now we bring out Ayato to douse the battlefield in Hydro. Lastly, we can bring out Xiangling to activate Pyronado, igniting a Vaporize reaction as she runs around. Simple Rinse and repeat, keeping Ayato brawling on the field until the rotation is ready again.

4.2.

Ayato Hypercarry Team

Main DPS Buffer Buffer Support
Kamisato Ayato Kaedehara Kazuha Furina Jean

This team blends their Elemental abilities together perfectly. Kamisato Ayato starts this combination off with his Elemental Burst, then we quickly cycle through the rest of the team. Stack your team's Elemental Burst and Skills on top of another and then swap back to Ayato to brawl - a very simple setup. Kazuha's Elemental Burst will buff the team, Furina's Elemental Burst adds the buff Fanfare and Jean’s burst will help to trigger Fanfare stacks whenever Ayato's Health increases or decreases, either by getting hit or healing. The combination of all of these buffs on Ayato, plus each of the Elemental Burst's damage and Swirl effects can drive the damage of this build quite high.

4.3.

Ayato Burgeon Team

Main DPS Buffer Buffer Pyro Driver
Kamisato Ayato Furina Baizhu Thoma

This team is built to augment Kamisato Ayato’s normal attacks with his teammates adding FanFare and Fiery Collapse to increase his damage through their Elemental Burst. We can also double up on damage by triggering a powerful Burgeon with Thoma’s Pyro elemental abilities. Furina and Baizhu are a solid match up for producing bloom seeds, with Baizhu’s Elemental burst also increasing our Burgeon damage. Overall, a fantastic team, full of synergies.

4.4.

Ayato Freeze Team

Main DPS Buffer Buffer Crowd Control
Kamisato Ayato Rosaria Shenhe Venti

This Freeze team is packed with Crowd Control and damage. Ayato can douse the battlefield with Hydro, setting things up for both Rosaria and Shenhe to add their Cryo elements to the enemies, freezing them in place. Venti is added to help keep enemies locked down and shred enemy resistances if he's using the Viridescent Venerer set. We also have a Cryo Resonance for the added CRIT Rate boost against frozen enemies, plus our teammate's buffs for Ayato to brawl on field. The constant application of Hydro and Cryo is easy to maintain and should allow Ayato to be completely safe against his enemies.
