wow Demon Invasions Coming In Mid-August

2 posts in this topic

As the pre-expansion patch approaches, Blizzard has posted a preview of the demon invasions that will keep us busy until Legion launches.

The demon invasions will be the main attraction of the pre-expansion events. However, they will not launch along with the pre-expansion patch, which will probably go live either next week or the week after that. Instead, we will be given some time to digest all the class changes and then the demon invasions will become available in the beginning or the middle of August.

Below, you can read about the stages of the demon invasions and what kind of rewards you can get from them:

Blizzard LogoKaivax

There’s a World of Warcraft: Legion pre-expansion patch coming soon, and that means a great number of changes and improvements will be finding their way into the game. We’ve recently outlined several reasons to get ready for it all here and here.

Today, we’d like to take a closer look at the some of the content that will be coming to Azeroth in the weeks after the pre-expansion patch.

Incursions and Diversions

Around the second or third week of August (no later than August 17 globally), after you’ve had time to play around with the patch and get a feel for the changes, some angry invaders are going to start dropping out of the skies over Azeroth.

You’ll be able to identify where the invasions are currently happening by looking at your world map. As quickly as you can, head out to the zone that’s under attack and lend your aid to the defense of Azeroth.

Each demon invasion takes place in four stages, and each stage ends with a reward of Nethershards—and sometimes a chest. That means it’s always a good time to rush out and fight the Legion.

A week after the invasions begin, the Legion’s assault will begin to intensify. Then, a week after that, the demonic onslaught will intensify even more, increasing your chances to complete the event-only achievements Stand Against The Legion (for completing one invasion) and Defender of Azeroth: Legion Invasions (for completing invasions in all six locations).

Loot Intensifies

When you participate in demon invasions and receive Nethershards, take note of them. Collect enough, and you can spend them on all sorts of transmogrification armor (there will be four ensembles available: cloth, leather, mail, and plate), new pieces for your neck, fingers, back, and trinket slots, as well as the event-only Felbat Pup battle pet, among and other useful items.

Speaking of weapons, you’ll always want to loot the stage 2 and stage 4 bosses in demon invasions, as they have a chance to drop one of 16 event-only weapons, such as Fel Barbed Spear or Hellfury Longbow. At item level 700, these weapons might be more than a transmogrification collection item for you—they might be the perfect thing to pick up and swing at the face of the nearest demon!

Remember to Share

One more item that we’d like to tell you about is a new toy that will be available during the Demon Invasions: the Pocket Fel Spreader. It’s not actually a good idea to leave it in your pocket, but it is a great idea to figure out how to obtain one of these tainted trifles—because this may be your only chance.

For Azeroth!

You can already try out the Legion pre-patch and the occasional demon invasions in the Public Test Realm, which is available to everyone. If you want to be prepared (see what I did there?) for the changes the pre-expansion patch will bring, make sure to read our extensive article on them!

This is the kind of pre-expansion that I like.  It's great when they shake up the world a bit and make it feel like something huge.  WoD was a little lackluster pre xpac in my opinion, sure they had a couple quests down by the dark portal but that was about it.  The last pre xpac that I really had fun with was Cata.  The world erupted and then there was a huge frickin dragon raining hellfire on zones randomly.  Demons raining down out of the sky to invade Azeroth?  Yes please!

The Nightborne storyline continues in Patch 7.1.
If you thought you'd be finished with Suramar after hitting Exalted, you merely had a break! In Patch 7.1, the campaign continues with a nine-week quest series culminating in the Insurrection achievement. Arcanist's Manasaber reward will likely require the Nighthold to open first. Finishing parts of the quest line award items with an item level range of 830 - 850 and Artifact Power as usual. If you've got Alchemy, don't forget to grab the new elixir recipe Recipe: Potion of Prolonged Power.
      Patch 7.1 Suramar Campaign Quests
To start the quests, you need to have Exalted reputation.
The following quest series have been added:
Visitor in Shal'Aran Waning Refuge Sign of the Dusk Lily Break An Arm Trial by Demonfire Staging Point The Seal's Power Felborne No More Breaching the Sanctum Felborne No More If you hate spoilers, stop reading right now or proceed at your own risk. You have been warned.

Here are some changes that were not present in 7.1 Patch Notes.
Legion Companion app has been updated with Artifact Research. Galakras  can now be soloed. It takes only two shots from the same cannon to bring her down. Mount drops now get announced in Guild Chat. Ancient Mana Nodes in Suramar appear as blue icons. Withered J'im is now required for Unleashed Monstrosities. Funny fact, because we've got him up twice in a row by accident. Deepening Shadows animation is now purple and harder to see during the Cordana Felsong encounter. Sephuz's Secret has been nerfed. Silence or CC damage-dealing abilities will no longer proc it. Dalaran Guards will now tell you where the Transmogrifier is (same place as Enchanting). Followers can now be right-clicked and added to missions. Players can now hide their belts at the Transmogrifier. Weapons that disappeared when sheathing now appear properly. Weapon positioning for fist weapons has been improved. Items granting Artifact Power that are channeled, can be now consumed while moving. Crafted gear can now be upgraded with Obliterum up to item level 855 (up from 850). Glyph of the Blazing Savior should work now. Crystal Vials can now be purchased in stacks of 20 (up from 5). Questing
Active Quests number tracking is back! The quest at the end of the Order Hall to unlock the third relic slot has had its World Quest requirement reduced to 20 (down from 30). Class Hall Upgrades that complete a World Quest no longer count toward emissary bounty chests. Selecting the emissary icon will change maps to that specific zone, where you need to complete the World Quests. Class Changes
      Death Knight
Wraith Walk  can now be used while dead. Druid
Travel Form has the same speed as mounts. Troll's Flight Form makes bat noises again. The Druid's Class Hall had a Mailbox added. The Order Hall set acts now as a dress, instead of chest & legs. Druids entering Suramar City now get transformed into a mana saber when shapeshifted. The same should apply for Shaman's Ghost Wolf. Mage
Teleport abilities have had icons updated. Felo'melorn's fire balls now have slightly different styles based on your Artifact appearance. They can be turned off entirely by talking to Archmage Melis. Priest
Shadowform no longer affects mounts. There's a proc icon when Holy Fire is reset. Shaman
Earthbind Totem has returned. Glyph of the Spectral Raptor now uses an updated model with more pixels! Warlock
Demonic Gateway activation & travel time decreased. Enslave Demon's cap has been decreased to 109 (down from 110). Glyph of the Voidlord now has a unique model. Contagion is now 15% (up from 12%). Casting Circle no longer grants immunity when you stand in it.

The first hotfixes for the new patch are in! A lot of PvP stuff as well as M+ questing issues, among many smaller fixes.
New patch, new problems that need to be fixed, but Blizz was on the case very quickly as we already have the first hotfixes of 7.1! A lot of fixes, predominately in the PvP area, with the biggest one being Kara attunement and the weekly bonus event being completable in M+ dungeons.
      October 25th
      Bonus Event
Completing a dungeon on any Mythic Keystone difficulty will now count towards progress on the weekly Bonus Event quest, "Emissary of War". Classes
Luffa Wrappings should once again function correctly for non-Feral Druids. Prowl should once again have the correct stealth effectiveness. Mass Entanglement should now reliably chain to nearby targets. Paladin
(Retribution) Fixed a bug preventing the Sword of Light passive from being fully calculated into baseline damage. Shaman
(Restoration) Lava Burst should correctly deal a critical strike against targets with Flame Shock, at level 20 or higher. Warrior
(Arms) Fixed a bug preventing the Seasoned Soldier passive from being fully calculated into baseline damage. Dungeons and Raids
Quest Items related to Karazhan attunement now drop in Mythic Keystone dungeons in addition to Mythic difficulty dungeons. Game Client
(Work in progress) Sheathing and unsheathing a weapon should no longer cause the game to crash. PvP
Warden Towers temporarily rewarded 150 Honor. They have been convinced to once again reward 300 Honor. Honor rewards from Tol Barad have been reduced by 50%. Class Adjustments Relentless reduces crowd control duration by 20% (was 25%). Developers’ Notes: We feel Relentless is over-represented in a lot of situations, so we’re slightly reducing its effect. Demon Hunter Fixed a bug that was preventing Imprison modified by Detainment from being removed by Divine Shield and Ice Block. Fury of the Illidari no longer causes reduced damage in PvP. Mage (Fire) Stamina reduced by 10% in PvP. (Frost) Stamina reduced by 10% in PvP Developers’ Notes: Fire and Frost Mages have felt a bit too tanky. (Frost) Deep Shatter increases the damage of Frostbolt by 150% (was 200%). Monk (Mistweaver) Surge of Mist now causes Enveloping Mist to incur an 8 second cooldown (was 6 seconds). Developers’ Notes: Mistweavers Monks have often relied on Soothing Mist to do most of their healing. Now, when choosing Surge of Mist, you may have to cast another healing spell during the Enveloping Mists cooldown. (Mistweaver) Counteract magic increases the healing of Renewing Mist by 125% (was 150%). Developers’ Notes: Counteract Magic has felt a bit too strong against damage-over-time compositions. Paladin Avenging Crusader now properly increases the cooldown recovery rate of Judgment and Crusader Strike. Avenging Crusader no longer increases the cooldown recovery rate of Tyr's Deliverance. Priest (Discipline) Searing Light increases the damage of Smite by 15%, down from 30%. Developers’ Notes: The Discipline Priest is intended to be an offensive healer, but we feel they were over-performing in 2v2 Arena. Rogue Agility reduced by 10% in PvP. Stamina reduced by 5% in PvP. Developers’ Notes: Rogues are intended to be strong, yet vulnerable to focused-fire. We feel they have too much survivability while dealing too much damage with both utility and survivability, so we’re toning them down. (Assassination) System Shock duration reduced to 2 seconds (was 4 seconds). (Subtlety) Stamina reduced by 5% in PvP. (Assassination, Outlaw) Stamina reduced by 15% in PvP. Shaman (Enhancement) Agility reduced by 10%. Warlock (Demonology) Doom, Doubled now increases the damage of Doom by 33% in PvP situations. (Demonology) Grimoire of Synergy increases the Warlock's and Pet's damage by 30% in PvP situations. (Demonology) Implosion damage reduced by 20% in PvP situations. Warrior Bladestorm now deals full damage in PvP situations. Developers’ Notes: Bladestorm is intended to be a strong damage cooldown for the Arms Warrior. In Legion Beta testing, Arms Warriors felt too strong, so we reduced the damage Bladestorm did in PvP. We feel we’re back to a place where returning it to full damage makes sense. Execute now deals 15% more damage in PvP situations. Developers’ Notes: Execute is designed to be a signature strength of the Warrior, and should always be the right choice on targets within Execute range in PvP. We’ve found that there are some situations where that wasn’t true, so we’re increasing the damage of Execute to make it always the right choice. Quests
Players should no longer fail to get credit for completing world boss World Quests. Players with a full inventory should now be able to complete “Edict of the God-King” and accept “Unwanted Evidence” after defeating God-King Skovald in Halls of Valor. The quest drops for “Uncovering Orders” should now come from the final boss in each of the three named dungeons, Assault on Violet Hold, Black Rook Hold, and Vault of the Wardens. World
Bloodgazer Falcosaurs should now respawn more quickly. Previous Hotfixes.

With Patch 7.1 releasing today, there's so much to do after maintenance!
      Karazhan Attunement
Karazhan attunement starts with Khadgar in Dalaran. You'll have to farm a few dungeons on Mythic difficulty to get attuned.
Edict of the God-King - Defeat God-King Skovald in Halls of Valor on Mythic difficulty. Unwanted Evidence - Bring the Fel Crystal Fragment to Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran. Uncovering Orders - Recover the Fragment of Spite from Blackrook Hold (Mythic), the Fragment of Power from Violet Hold (Mythic), and the Fragment of Torment from Vault of the Wardens (Mythic). Addon Update
Don't forget to update your addons for the newest patch. World Boss
Drugon the Frostblood is up this week.
      World Boss Loot Tables
Assorted Dragonscale Bracers Drugon's Snowglobe Ettin Fingernail Ettinbone Bracers Giant's Handkerchief Snowdrift Bracers Wax-Sealed Leather Bracers Mythic+ Affixes (US)
Sanguine, Volcanic, Fortified Mythic+ Affixes (EU)
      TBA Legion Dungeon Event
Sign of the Warrior is active this week: The final boss of each Legion dungeon will drop an extra item. The quest can now be picked up from within the Adventure Journal. To get Cache of Nightmarish Treasures, you have to finish 4 dungeons in Mythic difficulty, which shouldn't be an issue given the Karazhan attunement. Other
Hallow's End continues until October 28. For a complete overview, don't forget to check our Survival Guide.
