From frost to fire

5 posts in this topic

HI! I am new to this forum as a user but I have followed icy veins since I started playing wow...not so long ago ;)

My mage is my 1st character and the only one I actually play, I had some troubles as arcane so I turned fire and was getting decent numbers (as I was told). The thing is that I had to leave my guild cause noone was raiding seriously and I really want to get endame gear.

In my new guild GM made me turn to frost otherwise I would not raid with them, so I did, but my DPS as frost is not that good cause I just don´t like it, so I wanna go back into fire but 1st I wanted to check your opinions about my gear and tell me I with what I have is it viable to do it,,,cause this time I need to do LOTS of DPS in order to be allowed to remain a fire mage.

Here is a link to my gear and the suggestions askmrrobot made, do I follow them wisely or do you have something ot add in there??'

any tip will be gladly welcomed!

The suggestions look pretty good. In my experience, 38% crit (basically where you'd be at if you set up the way they told you) isn't quite enough to do great dps. I can play all 3 mage specs pretty well, though I'm no world top player by any means, and I had issues with fire with that low of a crit rating. My advice, wait til you can reach 40% or higher with optimal fire setup.

Thanks for the response, I was wondering if that 38% buffed includes only Arcane Brilliance and/or Molten Armor?? cause if not then I would get an even higher crit rate, but of it doesn't, I guess I will have to wait a little bit more ;)

You can set what self and raid buffs it uses for you; looks like the default for Fire includes Molten Armor, so I think that 38% is fully buffed.

If you upgrade your remaining gear, you get to 39.5% crit, which is about the point where things smooth out (though last time I played my mage was 5.2, so trust the other guys more).  I would definitely get that second upgrade for the sword ASAP, though.  Spellpower is awesome for everybody.

Yeah I need to upgrade everuthing but most of the stuff I got it this week and 1k valor point are not even close to upgrade them all (sadly hehe), I guess I will upgrade everything (and hopefully get some more normal SoO gear) and go fire.

Thanks!

      Who We Are
We are a former hardcore guild who finally grew up! Want to still progression raid but don’t have 3 nights a week to devote to WoW? We might be the guild for you! The raiding core is ex TBC/WOTLK raiders who just don’t have the time to raid during the week any more due to real life.
We raid at the weekend, though people are still on during the week doing arena/mythic + etc!
We are currently looking to move into Mythic raiding and are looking to expand the raid team with players with similar goals and time schedules as ourselves.

      Raids Times (Server)
      Sunday 8pm – 12 pm

      Current Progression
      7/7 Heroic EN

      Misc
Loot: Personal currently, may change when we settle on a core roster
      Voice: Discord

      Recruitment
At the moment we're in need of Shaman/Paladin healers as well as all DPS classes. Higher item level is of course better but anything above 860 to start out is fine. Old school raiders preferred, but not required!

      Who we are
<Hollow> is a semi-hardcore guild created by a group of friends, experienced players, that raided HC together in WOTLK. We reunited and transfered to the same realm to create a guild, or more accurately, a home. We keep a very friendly environment in and out of raids, oftenly joining discord to chat even if we aren't doing anything. Guild activities include but are not limited to mythic dungeons, mythic + and raiding.
      Our goals
Our current progress is 7/7HC and 2/3HC. Our goal is to form a better composed raid team and down ToV HC. During which we want to get everyone experienced and geared for mythics and next content. Mythic raiding is also in our plans once we get the right group for it.
      What we are looking for
We are currently planning to expand and size up our raid team to progress ToV HC and in the not too distant future, Mythic raiding. We are strongly prioritizing priests of any spec, and healers are highly considered in general.
RDPS: Most wanted all (Spriest); MDPS: Also welcome; HEAL: Need one or two (dont have monk, Dpriest); TANK: Main tank spots filled, still we could use one extra with DPS spec. Less geared people are also welcomed.
We also welcome social players as it can help our guild expand even further in other aspects of the game.
      Our raiding schedule
Our current raiding schedule is 3 raids a week for 3 hours:
Wednesday 8pm to 11pm server time - ToV Heroic Sunday 8pm to 11pm server time - EN Heroic Tuesday 8pm server time - ToV Normal & EN Normal The guild is using DKP system
NOTE: We have added a catch up system for new recruits. When you get past the trial phase and join the ranks as an official member of our guild, you also earn 200 dkp as bonus. If thats not enough we will consider more options. We wont leave anyone behind no matter how new while at the same time, drawing a line for our core, active raiders.
Thank you for taking your time reading through this post. If you have any further questions or if you are interested in joining us, feel free to contact us in game on Solidz, Hotbez or add us on BNET at Solidus#2642, bez#21193.

Here on Icy Vein's under the Arms Warrior DPS guide here is the recommended relic choice. I was under the impression that [Exploit the Weakness] was our top priority even if it meant 20-25iLvl difference. Since it would increase the proc chance by a factor of x2 with all three relics increasing Tacticians...
Why does this guide on Icy Veins say otherwise? Is it because the information is out of date and hasn't been updated?

Unfortunately this is not someting I can just run a Sim on because I don't currently have any [Exploit the Weakness] relics.

      Hey there!
I've recently started playing a mage, and I feel like my performance is a little below where it should be right now... I feel like I have the basics of the fire rotation down, but I really want to make any improvements that I can.. I don't really know where i'm going wrong, or what i'm doing that is causing a gap in numbers between me and similarly geared players. I have a log from a normal Xavius fight from earlier, maybe someone could take a look at it and point out any mistakes or give a few pointers?
      Thanks for your time!
