Unholy Death Knight 7.1

Recommended Posts

Guest Imodorox

It is best to cast this shortly before combat or during phases when you cannot attack the boss, since it has a cast time during which you cannot attack.

- At 6.0.2 you dont need to cast it anymore.

Unholy do NOT have Soul Reaper! Even if you switch to Blood Presence.

What level are you? Level 90 Death Knights have Soul Reaper in all specialisations (and all presences).

Hi. I wish to know if that guide can be applied to PvP as well. Speacilly the builds, cos based on the way its written, looks like more based to PvE. And for example, comparing to the tips from Noxxic (another great guide), both of you goes in very different lines of build.

So I would like to have it cleared, for no confusions, thx.

And if the guide is more relate to PvE, do you guys have pvp guides? cos I didnt find at the site.

All of our class guides on Icy Veins are designed exclusively for PvE. We are not likely to start doing PvP guides any time soon, I'm afraid.

Hey, first of all, this is a really nice guide! but I got a question regarding Scourge Strike and Festering Strike, if I end up in a situation which leads me with 4 death runes for single target DPS does SS have more priority over FS? and what spec do you think ends up with more sustained DPS? Unholy or 2H frost?
Cheers!

"

  1. Cast wow_icon_ability_deathknight_soulreaper. Soul Reaper
    • Only when the target is below 45% health."

don't u mean 35% health? Or am I getting something wrong?

Yeah, SS is higher priority. Obviously, don't forego FS to the point where your diseases drop off though :)

As for sustained DPS, I'm not sure. We'll see how it is going into raids.

for me Necrotic Plague takes much more dps out of my DK at Bossfights or dummy.. In fact off the 30 sec. dot @ 15 stacks..  defile is nice at aoe but thats all.. for each bossfight i would ever use Necrotic Plaque at the moment..

Since when did Runic Corruption become the best Tier 4 talent? Up until now it was always listed as the worst.

I dont understand why you say that the statistic priority is:

1: mastery

2: multistrike

when all i see from the Simulation craft is that they want Multistrike and more multistrike!

This is pasted directly from sim craft:

Crit 12.91% 7.91% 320

Haste

35.60% 7.62% 762

Multistrike

21.44% 14.85% 980

Damage / Heal Versatility

3.49% 0.49% 64

Attack Power

4670 3768 0

Mastery

47.18% 34.68% 646

Armor

1849 1849 1849

Hope you can help me understand why your guide is not matching the sim craft you are linking to

The stat priority had a bit of a problem. It should be fixed now. Thank you for pointing it out.

so we gem + enchant multistrike now? No Mastery anymore? Or do I get this wrong? (Cause stat priority changed though)

No worries mate...you should be using Defile on bosses to. Its a significant increase from DnD. Is it not part of your rotation?

You show Multistrike as the #1 stat, yet go for Mastery gems/enchants/food? Is that a mistake after changing those two in the order?

Just another thing.. Since multistrike is on top of the prio list surely we must gem and enchant in multistrike right? since it says mastery on the guide

I always read your guides for all of my toons. Thanks for this. My DK is lvl 81, so the consumables you have here are useless to me right now because they require lvl 90. What do you suggest for my lvl?

I don't understand. You say that Haste is our worst stat, but on the other hand you want us to use Runic Corruption, which scales with Haste obviously. Also it would be nice to know why prior to that it was stated that Blood Tap was best, because as far as I see it, Blood Tap gives me 1 Death Rune guaranteed for 75 Runic Power while Runic Empowerment gives me a 45% chance for 1 Death Rune per 30 Runic Power, which seems a bit random but should be overall better?

I really would have the logic explained behind having Haste as our worst stat, but picking Runic Corruption as rune refresher.

Hei, and cheers for a great guide!

Is it possible somehow to imitate an simmulare effect like this mage macro with defile?

  • #showtooltip
  • /cast Frostbolt
  • /cast Freeze

Using a macro such as the one above will enable you to automatically make use of wow_icon_spell_frost_frostnova.jpg Freeze whenever it comes off cooldown. Remember that wow_icon_spell_frost_frostbolt02.jpg Frostbolt does not consume the charges of wow_icon_ability_mage_wintersgrasp.jpg Fingers of Frost that Freeze generates. Also, making your Water Elemental cast Freeze while you are casting Frostbolt will have no incidence on your cast of Frostbolt.

The fourth War Within Alpha build brought some changes to Skyriding powers.
      Skyriding Power Changes
Skyriding Basics- While falling from a high location, your mount Dragon Isles drake extends its wings to propel you both forward. Pointing yourself downward grants more momentum. Evening out can transfer that momentum forward. Pointing yourself upward slows you down. When at your slowest, you will start to fall slowly toward the ground. You also gain access to the following abilities: Surge Forward Flap forward. Skyward Ascent Flap upward. Skyrider's Initiative- While dragonriding skyriding at middle speed and above, you gain stacks of Dragonrider's Skyrider's Initiative, up to 10. When landing at mid-to-high speeds, you create a shockwave, damaging enemies for [ Greater of {72% of Spell Power} or {72% of Attack Power * (1 + 0) / 10} ] per stack, split among them, and disorienting them for 3 sec. Landing at low speeds cancels Dragonrider's Skyrider's Initiative. Skyrider's Hunt- Defeating an enemy increases your Vigor  will grant your you 1 vigor. Vigor recharge rate by 10% for 3 sec. This effect can only occur once every 10 sec. Ground Skimming- When dragonriding skyriding near the ground, you regenerate 1 Vigor every 30 sec. This effect does not occur while affected by Thrill of the Skies unless Swift Skimming is learned. Thrill of the Skies- While dragonriding skyriding at high speeds, you regenerate 1 Vigor every 15 sec. Vigor- Dragonriding Skyriding abilities spend Vigor. Spending time on the ground, whether mounted or dismounted, regenerates 1 Vigor every 30 sec. Skyrider's Cultivation- Gathering herbs or minerals increases your Vigor recharge rate by 400% for 3 sec will replenish 1 vigor. Skyrider's Compassion- While airborne on a Skyriding mount, Dragon Isles drake, you gain stacks of Dragonrider's Skyrider's Compassion, up to 10. When you dismount, you gain a shield worth 1% of your health and gain 1% movement speed per stack, lasting 30 sec Lift Off- When mounted on a dragonriding skyriding mount, double jump to launch upward and start gliding forward. Skyriding Skill Track
In the War Within expansion, the Dragonriding Skill Track has been updated:
Dragonriding Glyphs have been renamed to Skyriding power (current PH name is Dragon Power) You will gain extra Skyriding power as you level. The costs of all Skyriding Powers has been reduced to 1 Dragon Power. A premade Level 70 template character starts with 20 Skyriding power and can unlock all the perks in the tree.
On the right side, you can enable/disable the Ride Along feature and the second node lets you pick between Whirling Surge and Lightning Rush at no cost.

All Mists of Pandaria raids and World Bosses are on a daily lockout in Patch 10.2.7.
We're not sure if the change is intended or a MoP Remix feature, but somehow, daily lockouts for MoP raids and World Bosses have slipped through to live servers even before the event's starts on May 16. Maybe this is a way to give retail players more chances on Tusks of Mannoroth since you can buy them directly from a vendor during MoP Remix.
If you're farming Garrosh, don't forget there is a skip at the beginning of the raid. As you enter, interact with the scroll on the wall.

Gleeful Glamour is an Enchanting item in the War Within that lets you temporarily change the race of your character.
Enchanting adds interesting scrolls that let you cosmetically change your character's race for a short period of time. The associated spell with all the transformations is:
Magical Mischief - Don the mask, magically altering your appearance to that of another one of Azeroth's residents. Lasts 20-60 min. based on the quality of the Gleeful Glamour. (1 sec cast, 2 hrs cooldown) From the description, we know the transformation lasts for 20-60 minutes and is on a 2-hour cooldown.

Blizzard has added Glyph of Jab for Monks in the War Within, making Tiger Palm strike your target with your equipped weapon!
We've got some great news for all Monk players out there. In the War Within expansion, Blizzard has added Glyph of Jab that makes Tiger Palm strike your target with your equipped weapon, instead of your fists.

In the past, Glyph of Jab was a minor glyph used by monks, designed to ensure that the Jab ability was executed with hands and fist animations even when non-fist weapons were equipped. You will find more details here.
