Guardian Druid 6.2

Recommended Posts

Guest John Walcott

Yeah, I just want clarification on the multistrike/mastery thing.  So in this guide, it says that mastery is the state to go for after bonus armor.  But on askmrrobot.com, its multistrike after bonus armor.  Can someone clarify which stat is better and why?

Thanks

This guide says "updated for 6.2," yet still makes a comment about Guardian of Elune not being viable due to the recharge time calculation.  Yet recharge calculation was re-done in patch 6.1 and respected Guardian bloggers like Arielle support the fact that the talent is certainly viable in some situations (source:  www.theincbear.com).  I'd challenge the mods here to double-check their content.

I actually don't see why GoE isn't viable. Though it is true that with 100% dodge the 25% phys dmg reduction wouldn't apply to normal or dodge-able attacks.  I challenge the effectiveness of having a 25% phy dmg reduction that has more uptime per min than our main minute timer barkskin.  even against bristling fur (40% dmg reduction 6s/min) having 30s/min 25% dmg reduction is still better at handling certain mechanics I feel.  Since the 10% base dodge inc coming from GoE effects the rage cost reduction and the recharge time you could have a decent uptime for SD (for me I have a 6s window for physical dmg to actually hit **3s SD with a 9s recharge using GOE**) though I understand it not being viable based solely on 100% dodge vs 25% PHY dmg reduction. The validity of a talent should not be based solely on the interaction of the talent in itself but the interaction it can have in fights.

the one blackrock boss that does massive physical dmg if you don't get caught in the stone hands. actually seems viable to shave off 3s or more if you are still hitting the boss of the aoe dmg.

One more thing about the changes to GoE to consider is that there are quite a few mechanics that are considered physical damage, but can not be dodged. Pretty much any "crush", "slam", "bash", etc type of attack or aoe is usually physical damage, but can't be dodged. So its not like you're completely losing out on that element of the new GoE.

Add to that the passive 10% increase and dodge and I would say it is more than viable and actually my preferred talent now.

I've spoken to Dex more about Guardian of Elune and he maintains his position that Pulverize (and sometimes Bristling Fur, maybe) are better choices than GoE. This isn't because it's particularly bad (and I'm editing the guide to make sure that isn't implied), but simply because the other talents are better and/or more viable in current content.

Thanks for all your questions and comments, though!

Not to be a heckler, but I'm wondering if there's an updated opinion on GoE considering the 4pc Tier bonus from HfC? Also, which secondary stat provides the most dps/threat gain, esp on Single target, plz?

Why is glyph of barkskin not a viable choice for guardian druids?

Where does Agility fall in the stat priority for a Guardian Druid?

If I have an item that is +20 Agility and another that is +20 Stamina, which would I prefer?

You shouldn't ever have to make that choice unless you're still in the leveling process.  All end-game gear will have both Agility and Stamina on them.  The only thing that you might see this not on is for Jewelry (Rings, Cloak, Neck) and Trinkets.  On the Jewelry slots you should always have Agility on them (as opposed to Strength or Intellect), but Trinkets is more or less up to you on which to use, but you should prioritize trinkets with mastery or bonus armor.

No mention of Agility at all in stat priority? Surely it has some value. Are agi trinkets worthless?

So I would strongly reccomend adding the following to macro's.

#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast Lacerate()
/cast !Maul

#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast Mangle()
/cast !Maul

#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast Thrash()
/cast !Maul

I'm not familiar with using () or ! in macros. Can you explain what you're accomplishing here?

Evening All

I was wondering if anyone had any advise on if there is any cap on mastery multi strike etc for guardian druid.

Currently raiding HFC HC and starting Mythic.

Looking at Dex's gear he seems to be prio Crit over everything with a mastery rating of 33%

Any advise on soft caps or when enough mastery is enough would be great.

Many Thanks

so I saw the states r stamina bonus armor mastery and mutistrike then other things, why is mutistrike higher than the others, dose it contribute to the primal tenacity? or are the 2nd and 3rd strikes not aiding the main strike in that regard?, can someone please explain because the stat thing only repeated what mutistrike dose, not why its higher than crict, haste, or versitlity all have advantages that seem better.

Multi-strikes on mangles, lacerates and auto-attacks increase your health pool by a fair chunk (2%ish)  for a little while (i want to say 20 seconds). It is possible to actually get around 1.2 million health in aoe situations by multi-dotting packs of 5+ with around 30% multi. I honestly prefer multi-strike rating to mastery because my raid team has a bunch of resto shaman, so the health pool being bigger allows the shaman to get more use out of their mastery and inflate their numbers for healing logs. it also provides a really solid buffer versus magic damage (having almost 3 times the health pool of my pally off tank), which our mitigation against is... lack luster.

Further, when you have 1.2 million health, and then you get hit for about a million because of a botched mechanic, not only do you survive with about half a normal tanks health, you also have a TON of resolve, so your next frenzied regen or healing touch will be monstrous. It makes recovery not only easier, but more rewarding.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?

Affliction is getting plenty of changes today as well, with Blizzard detailing the reasoning behind certain choices.
      Affliction (Source)
      Greetings Warlocks,
Today, we have various Core and Affliction tree changes hitting the Alpha. We want to take a moment to go a bit more in depth as to what certain changes were made and why. As a refresher, here are the goals for our Core and Afflictions that we posted last week along with some additional goals that we can dig into here.
      Class
Ensure each capstone is interesting and exciting. Reduce the amount of throughput talents, to free up utility choices. Reduce the number of ranks for talents that don’t warrant multiple ranks. Affliction
Address the tuning of Malefic Rapture in single-target and multi-target situations. Reduce complexity and the amount of active buttons that contribute to it. Erase the need to choose between a single-target or multi-target profile by adding more adaptability and flexibility. While we cannot go over every change here, we’d like to get a bit more detailed than last week’s update and explain some of the bigger changes coming in this build.
      Class Tree Throughput
We’re removing a lot of throughput talents from the class tree to allow warlocks to pick up more utility without feeling forced to take mandatory talents to be competitive. These talents aren’t compelling options when placed against utility as they will always be the right answer to have. This allows us to move that power into the specialization trees and tailor throughput-centric talents to be specific to that specialization’s gameplay.
      Malefic Rapture
In addition to becoming baseline for Affliction, we are introducing new talents that will help Malefic Rapture become the go-to spender for both single-target and multi-target situations. This should also shift Seed of Corruption to being a means to apply Corruption to multiple targets rather than what you spam in dungeons. In addition, we are redesigning Siphon Life to be friendlier to Affliction’s rotation and expect that its new design will make it easier to optimize Malefic Rapture.
      Affliction’s Adaptability
While we do want Affliction warlocks to have a preferred talent setup for single- versus multi-target situations, we don’t want it to feel like they are powerless if they are in the opposite situation. By focusing on Malefic Rapture being Affliction’s main spender and removing talents that are only valuable in multi-target situations (Soul Flame, Soul Swap, Doom Blossom, etc.), we’re hoping that the Affliction tree feels less punishing to fill out.
      Is This It?
Not at all. We expect to make changes based on feedback and our own playtesting. We want to get the ball rolling on changes we knew we want to make, so we could start the discussion early on and make adjustments before The War Within launches.
Thank you all for the continued discussions and we look forward to your feedback!
And here are the full changes from the development notes:
