Retribution Paladin 6.2

Recommended Posts

I have a question about our Tier 5 talents that i hope someone with a better understanding can explain.

In the simulationcraft here: http://www.simulationcraft.org/reports/Raid_T17M.html#player19they use divine purpose as the Tier 5 talent, and i was wondering if it's better than sanctified wrath, or it's only in the single target environment used for sim crafts it's better?

Wouldn't exorcism > judgement on the priority list for the standard single target rotation? Not only does it do more DPCT but it also puts it on cooldown so the autoattack resets aren't potentially wasted.

Just one question about this build... Any particular reason not to use Exo above CS. Seeming have that ability on cooldown so you can recast on the proc seems to be a better priority. Granted I've only started looking into Paladin building recently, I just always wondered why the skills were tiered like that.

I don't know what I am doing wrong - but my dps sucks. I got fairly good gear (641 ilvl), practised several guides both in terms of talents and rotations. Even gone so far to use addons and redicilous macros. But I'm still behind everyone. Initially I thought that Paladins were just very proc reliant. But even when my spells are proccing like crazy my dps doesn't change much.

I'm just about to quit WoW altogether. This is very frustrating. I see some Ret Paladins with crazy dps and it makes no sense to me. But worst of all is that this keeps me from playing my favorite class. I can't do certain CM's and I get kicked out of raids. All because of my dps.

Fuck this game.

To reply ^... I think it's better for a more of a sustained DPS, but at that point your dps also becomes more proc oriented, so sometimes you might pull say, 14k, sometimes maybe 20k.

With Sancrified Wrath, you're pulling burst damage every 2 minutes for 30 seconds. Making On Use trinkets (such as Scabbard) much more beneficial, especially when also stacked with a potion. So.. you could pull up to 40k dps single targetting during this 30 seconds of time (I've done it, iLvl 650), and during that 2 minute downtime it will balance out at around 18-20k (at least for me, being ilvl 650).

I also believe it's personal preference. If you enjoy your DPS being more randomized, Divine Purpose is the way to go.. maybe you'll pull more dps than everyone, maybe you won't. If you like to burst and see high numbers every so often (to remove the randomness), then definitely Sanctified Wrath and/or Holy Avenger.

And my take on Sanctified Wrath and Holy Avenger is this:

Sanctified Wrath: Take this if you can manage your GCD for Crusader Strike -> Hammer of Wrath -> Crusader Strike -> Final Verdict -> Divine Storm (if proc'd) -> REPEAT

My rotation is a bit different, but it's hard to explain... If my divine storm procs, I will first use Hammer of Wrath to generate a Holy Power, then use Divine Storm, and use Hammer of Wrath again, then continue my rotation. That way you're getting a Double Hammer of Wrath in instead of a Hammer of Wrath+Crusader Strike.. giving you about 6-7k extra damage.

Holy Avenger: Use this if you have trouble managing holy power (as a beginner, which I did), and Spam Hammer of Wrath, Final Verdict, Crusader Strike, Final Verdict, etc.. and always use Divine Storm if it procs.

I feel that Sactified Wrath is for players who can manage their GCD and Holy Power better than players who use Holy Avenger. That's my personal opinion, though.

And personally, I am now a Sanctified Wrath user! Much Love.

Hi, I had a couple of comments to add.

1) In the tier 5 talent section you state that Divine purpose is not as competitive as Sanctified wrath or Holy Avenger. Most sims and theorycrafting I have seen do not support this. Is this information old? EJ Thread, MMO-Champ and the Blizz forums don't make this claim so I'm confused as to why I only see it here.

2) I feel like its worth mentioning the way that Empowered Divine Storm (and Divine purpose) proc when consuming Holy power. Understanding this is essential to managing both procs. Currently the only info about this is in the "4.3 Abilities and cooldowns from talents" section. It claims you should use Divine purpose instantly upon seeing the buff. That isn't necessarily the best way to utilize it. Additionally the way that EmpDS and DP interact make understanding the way they proc even more important if using FV and DP.

Thanks!

Hey it may sounds a dumb question but, why is spell_holy_excorcism_02.jpgExorcism bellow spell_holy_crusaderstrike.jpgCrusader Strike and spell_holy_righteousfury.jpgJudgment in priority ?

It is more powerfull, can cleave with glyph, can be refreshed by a proc ... I need some explanation please !

Exo does not benifit from Hand of Light unlike CS and HoW. The CD of Exo also does not flow well unlike the other holypower generators making it less than ideal till you get your four piece.

I also believe that CS and J proc Censures's direct damage while Exo does not.

So exo might deal higher base damage. However since it does not proc all the smaller effects it actually deals less damage.

Does Bonus Armor work the same way for Ret as it does for Prot I am trying to get gear that is great for both specs and If it functions the same way giving attack power on a 1 to 1 basis should it not be a good stat?

Just a Clarification needed here.

According to your stat priority Mastery > Haste (up to 15%)

It also says that Haste becomes > Mastery at Higher gear levels.

What gear level is that?  I'm currently 643 and wondering if i should spend the resources in swapping all my enchants and gems to haste instead of mastery.

Currently Mastery is 2051 (59.95%) and Haste is only at 365 (3.65%).

Thanks,

As for trinkets, currently the 665 Scabbard is our 2nd bis up to and including 690 trinkets because of the length and potency of the proc.

Well, that would be my first pick then biggrin.png

The only thing that is also powerful and gives an inconvenient at the same time is the CD... I mean, we have 2 CD's with 2 minutes of cooldown and another one with 1 minute, i'm considering it like a CD because it needs to be cast at the beginning of the fights and now, there will be another one with 1 minute and a half :/

I use the 665 Scabbard of Kyanos, and, even though it's a 1.5 min cooldown, I wait to use it again until Avenging Wrath is up (2 mins). This also allows it to line up with Execution Sentence whereas every other time you cast execution sentence it will be buffed by the Scabbard trinket + Avenging Wrath.

P.S. My toon is Clast on realm US-Bloodhoof if you want to check it out on the armory.

im a little confused on the spell rotation priority, maybe im missing something but divine storm only does 65% wep dmg, and even if buffed by final verdict, would only hit for 130% wep dmg, why is that preferred for single target over final verdict, which always hits for 200% wep dmg while costing the same amount of holy power?

I have one question : what is the rotation for clcret with FV template ?

es eds5_fv tv_dp_4s eds_4s tv5 how exo_bc eds_fv_aw tv_aw_exec cs j eds_fv tv_dp tv4 exo tv3

This string is probably what you want. It also incorporates the T17 set bonus involving Exorcism.

On the Tier 7 Alternate rotations, you have Empowered Divine Storm listed. My understanding is this is a Final Verdict only proc and would therefore not be applicable in those situations.

Currently Mastery is 2051 (59.95%) and Haste is only at 365 (3.65%).

Mastery has a nearly linear value at all gearlevels. Only haste does fluctuate to specific haste plateaus because of its influence to our rotation. I tried to find that value between 1400 and 1700 rating.

What stands true trough all these simulations is that haste was more usefull that mastery till that high breakpoint. But even after reaching it, haste is still better than anything beside mastery...

I guess thats the main reason the complicated empored seals rotation does give some Retri a greater damage increase than the final verdict specc

Multistrike OR Critical Strike (but not both);

I don't understand what this is saying. If I have pants that have crit and multi is that a bad item?

Hi there!

Got two important questions that needs answers, hope you can help me smile.png

First: In your statprio guide it says chose ether Crit or Multistrike. Lets say i chose Crit over Multistrike, does Multistrike get less prio than Versitillity who is retpaladins worst stat? And id love to learn the math.

Second: Final Verdict does deal the same damage as Templars Verdict, also does Divine Strom the same damage as Templars Verdict whit Divine Crusader and Final Verdicts buff. Why not chose Empowered Seals who gives 15% attack power (flat if you dont swap seals) and if you also got the skill to swap seals 15% haste and 20% movespeed. To me it seems like 15% attack power overrides the proc chanse of a equaly good Divine Storm on single target. Am i right?

Thanks!

I believe that it is about time for this guide to get an update. I'm seeing a lot of material from other sources indicating that certain alternate talent selections are going to yield better average DPS than what is shown on this guide.

This is complicated by a lot of theorycrafting that shows the numbers tweaked with the incoming patch are also going to alter some ideal talent choices a little bit.

Thirdly, this guide needs to include information for Tier 17 and the stat bonuses, as they are significant boosts to our DPS, and alter the rotation and the ideal talents to go with them. This guide seems to be getting more than a little out of date, and it would be a shame for those who've relied upon it to give it up for something that is better managed and more frequently cared for.

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?

Affliction is getting plenty of changes today as well, with Blizzard detailing the reasoning behind certain choices.
      Affliction (Source)
      Greetings Warlocks,
Today, we have various Core and Affliction tree changes hitting the Alpha. We want to take a moment to go a bit more in depth as to what certain changes were made and why. As a refresher, here are the goals for our Core and Afflictions that we posted last week along with some additional goals that we can dig into here.
      Class
Ensure each capstone is interesting and exciting. Reduce the amount of throughput talents, to free up utility choices. Reduce the number of ranks for talents that don’t warrant multiple ranks. Affliction
Address the tuning of Malefic Rapture in single-target and multi-target situations. Reduce complexity and the amount of active buttons that contribute to it. Erase the need to choose between a single-target or multi-target profile by adding more adaptability and flexibility. While we cannot go over every change here, we’d like to get a bit more detailed than last week’s update and explain some of the bigger changes coming in this build.
      Class Tree Throughput
We’re removing a lot of throughput talents from the class tree to allow warlocks to pick up more utility without feeling forced to take mandatory talents to be competitive. These talents aren’t compelling options when placed against utility as they will always be the right answer to have. This allows us to move that power into the specialization trees and tailor throughput-centric talents to be specific to that specialization’s gameplay.
      Malefic Rapture
In addition to becoming baseline for Affliction, we are introducing new talents that will help Malefic Rapture become the go-to spender for both single-target and multi-target situations. This should also shift Seed of Corruption to being a means to apply Corruption to multiple targets rather than what you spam in dungeons. In addition, we are redesigning Siphon Life to be friendlier to Affliction’s rotation and expect that its new design will make it easier to optimize Malefic Rapture.
      Affliction’s Adaptability
While we do want Affliction warlocks to have a preferred talent setup for single- versus multi-target situations, we don’t want it to feel like they are powerless if they are in the opposite situation. By focusing on Malefic Rapture being Affliction’s main spender and removing talents that are only valuable in multi-target situations (Soul Flame, Soul Swap, Doom Blossom, etc.), we’re hoping that the Affliction tree feels less punishing to fill out.
      Is This It?
Not at all. We expect to make changes based on feedback and our own playtesting. We want to get the ball rolling on changes we knew we want to make, so we could start the discussion early on and make adjustments before The War Within launches.
Thank you all for the continued discussions and we look forward to your feedback!
And here are the full changes from the development notes:
