Destruction Warlock 6.2

Recommended Posts

From the patch notes today in hotfix:

Does this change anything in stat priority? Also wondering when RoF will be useful to cast as casting for 1 target sounds like a waste now.

I'm assuming that with the latest changes to Destro, the hugely nerfed RoF is no longer part of the single target rotation?

I'm updating the guide and removing Rain of Fire from the single-target priority. The hotfix also had some impact on Tier 6 talents, because without Rain of Fire, Mannoroth's Fury is not really worth it anymore, and on the multiple-target rotation, because you now need a lot of adds to make it worth it to use Rain of Fire. The changes will be live soon on the site, I'm just going through all the comments on my class guides and making all the necessary changes before deploying everything.

Does the changes in the hotfix today change our stat priority at all?

It does not seem so.

hey i was just wondering if u had the numbers for the stat priority to plug into ask mr robot the linkl isent working for me thanks

Warlock_Destruction_T17H Int=5.33(0.07) SP=0.00(0.00) Crit=2.90(0.07) Haste=2.32(0.07) Mastery=2.65(0.07) Mult=2.37(0.07) Vers=2.28(0.07) Speed=0.00(0.00) Avoidance=0.00(0.00)

hi there,

first, great guide! I like your work. Keep it up!

now my question is: does hits from multistrike generate embers for us? like if I cast an incinerate and it multistrikes, neither crits, do we get 2 ember bits? or just 1?

thank you

As fas as I know, Multistrikes don't generate Burning Embers.

I'm confused about whether to cast shadowburn or chaos bolt if I have dark soul up, and the target is at 20% or below. Is Shadowburn always priority?

Thanks for your guide, I found it very helpful.

Curious if the shattered hand weapon enchant works on all weapons, tooltip says melee weapon?

"Mastery increases the damage of your Burning Ember consuming spells by a large amount, through wow_icon_spell_fire_moltenblood.jpgMastery: Emberstorm. For fights with multiple targets, you get a high amount of Burning Embers through wow_icon_spell_shadow_rainoffire.jpgRain of Fire."

Rain of Fire no longer generates embers. Is it still worth casting single target?

It is not.

Yes, it should.

It works for casters.

Currently, wow_icon_warlock_grimoireofcommand.jpg Grimoire of Supremacy is recommended for all single-target situations and high-movement situations. wow_icon_warlock_grimoireofsacrifice.jpg Grimoire of Sacrifice should be taken for multiple-target situations, unless you have wow_icon_spell_warlock_demonicservitude. Demonic Servitude talent (in which case, you simply stick to Grimoire of Sacrifice).

This doesn't make sense (well, the second part doesn't). A typo perhaps? I would have thought with  wow_icon_spell_warlock_demonicservitude. Demonic Servitude  you'd want wow_icon_warlock_grimoireofcommand.jpg Grimoire of Supremacy not wow_icon_warlock_grimoireofsacrifice.jpg Grimoire of Sacrifice ?

Crit and Mastery are very close in value. The difference between gemming for crit, or for mastery, won't impact your dps greatly. I'm using mastery gems because I had them before the patch, and I didn't see a point in paying 1.5k to switch all of my gems on the gear I'll be replacing in two weeks smile.png.

I'd recommend keeping crit and mastery relatively close to each other, but if you're a beginner player, crit is much more forgiving if you make mistakes.

hi

im guessing that you are saying to keep crit and mast relatively close in rating and NOT in percent. correct? as of 1/3/2015?

When I ran SimulationCraft for my warlock I got some different stat weights than this guide suggests, specifically these are the rankings I god:

int>SP>crit>multistrike>haste~=mastery~=versatility

Or more specifically the item weights where listed as follows:

item_weight.jpg

Is the guide off or am I off somewhere and probably using SimCraft wrong?

Question on the stat weights, when I run simulationcraft I get a lot different stats than what is listed so far, specifically:

Can anyone point me to where I may be going wrong? Or if the numbers are right and the guide off?

I realize I am old and slightly retarded. Could someone please just tell me to throw this in this order for single target encounters? Whatever it is, not once you get something below 20%, how about how do I open up with what spell and then through an entire rotation on a fresh encounter. Please remember not everyone is bright. Thanks

Respectfully,

Forrest

I believe, everything should be covered in the guides.

If something is unclear, I'd suggest you posting your questions to https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/forum/27-warlock/our amazing warlock community. :)

I would like a rework of stat priorities for destro, as it does not appear that this expansion allows embers to be gained from Rain of Fire during this expansion. An explanation for mastery as the main priority is that RoF gives embers. Since it doesn't anymore, that might change things.

Icy Veins is recommending a mastery build for Destruction Warlocks in 6.1.  Mr. Robot is recommending a Critical Strike build.  Which is it guys/gals? (ref. GoSac/AD/CR)

Rain of Fire hasn't given Burning Embers since November 25th, so that needs to be changed ASAP. Seriously, it's been over 3 months now.

On the side, Master is still best. It's not explained in the guide, it's in the change-log at the bottom of the page: "Since wow_icon_warlock_charredremains.jpgCharred Remains is now the best talent for single-target, Destruction Warlocks favor Mastery for single-target. Mastery was already the best stat for AoE, which makes Mastery the best stat overall for Destruction Warlock."

The guide says "use wow_icon_ability_warlock_baneofhavoc.jpgHavoc on wow_icon_ability_warlock_chaosbolt.jpgChaos Bolt (if no target is below 20% health) or wow_icon_spell_shadow_scourgebuild.jpgShadowburn (if there is a target below 20% health);".

I guess both, the target of havoc and the target of shadowburn, must be below 20% health. Or does it alsow work if target of havoc is above 205?

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?

Affliction is getting plenty of changes today as well, with Blizzard detailing the reasoning behind certain choices.
      Affliction (Source)
      Greetings Warlocks,
Today, we have various Core and Affliction tree changes hitting the Alpha. We want to take a moment to go a bit more in depth as to what certain changes were made and why. As a refresher, here are the goals for our Core and Afflictions that we posted last week along with some additional goals that we can dig into here.
      Class
Ensure each capstone is interesting and exciting. Reduce the amount of throughput talents, to free up utility choices. Reduce the number of ranks for talents that don’t warrant multiple ranks. Affliction
Address the tuning of Malefic Rapture in single-target and multi-target situations. Reduce complexity and the amount of active buttons that contribute to it. Erase the need to choose between a single-target or multi-target profile by adding more adaptability and flexibility. While we cannot go over every change here, we’d like to get a bit more detailed than last week’s update and explain some of the bigger changes coming in this build.
      Class Tree Throughput
We’re removing a lot of throughput talents from the class tree to allow warlocks to pick up more utility without feeling forced to take mandatory talents to be competitive. These talents aren’t compelling options when placed against utility as they will always be the right answer to have. This allows us to move that power into the specialization trees and tailor throughput-centric talents to be specific to that specialization’s gameplay.
      Malefic Rapture
In addition to becoming baseline for Affliction, we are introducing new talents that will help Malefic Rapture become the go-to spender for both single-target and multi-target situations. This should also shift Seed of Corruption to being a means to apply Corruption to multiple targets rather than what you spam in dungeons. In addition, we are redesigning Siphon Life to be friendlier to Affliction’s rotation and expect that its new design will make it easier to optimize Malefic Rapture.
      Affliction’s Adaptability
While we do want Affliction warlocks to have a preferred talent setup for single- versus multi-target situations, we don’t want it to feel like they are powerless if they are in the opposite situation. By focusing on Malefic Rapture being Affliction’s main spender and removing talents that are only valuable in multi-target situations (Soul Flame, Soul Swap, Doom Blossom, etc.), we’re hoping that the Affliction tree feels less punishing to fill out.
      Is This It?
Not at all. We expect to make changes based on feedback and our own playtesting. We want to get the ball rolling on changes we knew we want to make, so we could start the discussion early on and make adjustments before The War Within launches.
Thank you all for the continued discussions and we look forward to your feedback!
And here are the full changes from the development notes:
