Having Issues Leveling as Prot

4 posts in this topic

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, if it's not, I will remove it.

A while back, I made a paladin and leveled him to 68. I have never tanked before, and thought it was fun so I planned to run with it. However, since the squish I have been dying once a run, at least. I'm in full heirlooms, with all of them enchanted. I don't know if it's me, or my healers or what, but I really don't think I'm cut out for tanking, anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Honestly I can't say I can help much beyond saying try to keep using CDs often and optimizing your rotation to put out shield of the righteous.

I know why you're worried though. pre 6.0 I had a 65 warrior that could almost solo dungeons, now I'm dying to stuff fairly often. My biggest concern is that it's likely due to Armor. I'm only reducing ~35% damage from Armor on my fully enchanted boa tank. That sounds like I'm taking 2x more damage now, along with the strange balance of the squish.

Thanks for the response.

Does it get better at 90? Should I just suck it up and push through?

90 is definitely a very smooth experience if you're fighting things appropriate to your gear level.

      Hi,
I've just finished normal with my main 890ilvl (54 points) prot tank and also with my 876ilvl (36 points) druid tank.
      My conclusion is the following:
The protection warrior is taking way to high damage from almost all abilities except auto-attacks which are low anyway.
Shield block doesn't work against any of the abilities in nighthold and doesn't help with any magical skills.
Basically our block even with 2 set items, having aprox 65% crit block chance is useless in Nighthold.
The fact that our main reduction ability except our 8k-ish armor is useless for all Nighthold bosses. Demo, LS, SW, SR are ok for stack abilities or strong abilities but they couldn't be frequent enough. The damage taken spikes are crazy...just crazy and I've kept IP 40-60% of the damage and decent 90% + bracket dps.
Paladin tank and warrior tank used to be very similar in damage taken ( normal damage taken ), now paladin is taking 100 millions and warrior is taking 200-400 million on same boss. This is because their damage is percent damage reduction and that works for magical also, but our shield block is irrelevant. Also paladins block spells now.
In regard to my 876ilvl druid, I've done Guldan solo tanking without any stress. I've done rest of bosses without a problem, only keeping 1-2 stack of ironfur up and using rest of my rage for the 30% reduction every 10 sec, and I won't even start with the amount of cds druids have. These runs showed me how warrior is 0 compared to paladin, druid and DK.
I would place warrior on last place under DK, as Shield Block is an irreleant ability in this raid. You can check logs and compare raids from EN and Nighthold. It seems that to be so-so with a warrior tank you would have to maximize versatility and ignore every other stat :|, maybe then you will start reducing some damage from this raid.

I believe that even the first version of warrior tank from start of EN couldn't handle Nighthold as good as paladin, druid can now. They were just op at low level for being able to handle high mythic dungeons at low gear for stacking IP 2 million absorb, but they scaled bad compared to others and that IP would drop in 2 hits on Mythic EN content, making it so-so anywany.

Post below if any ideas pop to mind related to the above problem. Thanks !

So, as you know, Execution Sentence was reduced by 15% in the last hotfix as seen here https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/news/20478238/hotfixes-january-18
With that, I am curious to see if execution sentence is still worth taking over Final Verdict (without legendary cloak).
      Thoughts?

      Hello,
the gods of rng decided to reward me today with a  Draught of Souls titanforged from the timewalking chest. My question is, do I use it when I have max stacks of crusade or just use it on cd? Say for a fight that lasts 6 mins.
      Thanks!

      Hello,
Adelante is currently recruiting DPS & Heals, however, all competent players will be considered.  We are a Horde guild on Arthas and our current progression is 8/10N NH 4/7M EN and 3/3H TOV.  As far as classes go we do not have a Moonkin, Mage, Feral Druid, Rogue, or any type of Monk. We only raid two nights a week, Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:00 PM until 11:00 PM Eastern.  Thursday is not considered a raid night, but we will often clear Heroic and Normal on this evening for AP and it is not required. We are pushing progression on Il'gynoth, and look forward to finishing off EN then moving on to Nighthold, we will be intermittently working on Mythic TOV.
From you, we would expect 100% attendance during your trial period; after that, if you cannot make a raid or will be late it is mandatory to keep the raid leader updated.  In order to continue making good progression while raiding only two nights a week, we expect that you know your class inside-out and will research any bosses you are unfamiliar with prior to raids.
If you are interested, you can either reply to this thread and link your most recent combat logs for review, make a character on our realm and inbox me, or hit me up on real ID (violentravi#1826).  Alternatively, if you are old school, please apply via our website:  http://www.adelante-guild.com
      Thank you for your consideration
      Xoxo
