Fire Mage Buff Vs. Stat Priority

3 posts in this topic

Hey everyone. I'm a fire mage and I would like to open a discussion about the Molten Armor and Pyrotechnics buffs.

The Fire Mage stat priority says crit is very heavy. I'm curious if crit is a lighter stat now that we get almost 20% crit for free now?

I'm noticing I can do some pretty cool reactive rotations now that we get so much free crit, but it's difficult to get Combustion ticks above 3k. Occasionally I get a 4k or 5k, but if I can make that happen on every rotation than my DPS will skyrocket.

What do you guys think about dropping a little crit for some mastery? Do you think it'll affect crit chance so much that the damage boost to Ignite is irrelevant? Or do we now have a crit soft cap?

well as i saw in the firemage guide and over at askmrrobot, mastery seems to be an important stat aswell.

i'm abit confused wether i should push up mastery oder crit.

askmrrobot has two builds and i dont know which to use.

      Hey there!
I've recently started playing a mage, and I feel like my performance is a little below where it should be right now... I feel like I have the basics of the fire rotation down, but I really want to make any improvements that I can.. I don't really know where i'm going wrong, or what i'm doing that is causing a gap in numbers between me and similarly geared players. I have a log from a normal Xavius fight from earlier, maybe someone could take a look at it and point out any mistakes or give a few pointers?
      Thanks for your time!

Would you point out possible Improvements or grave mistakes visible in the logs?

Hi everyone. I've a question, What spect should we roll for 7.1.5?
So patch notes for 7.1.5 (November the 29th) are out.
And I have 2 things to remark
1.Strong buff to Arcane Mana cost for Arcane Blast has been reduced from 125% to 60% per Arcane Charge, since they are mana dependent. This does not apply It Was a tooltip bug.
2.Almost all fire skills were buffed in damage, Fireball,Flame Blast, PyroBlast, Scorch, FlameStrike, CinderStorm,Meteor,Conflag and Phoenix's Flames. BUT Critical Mass % was reduced from 15% to 10% and Pyretic Incantation was nerfed from 5% per stack  to 2% per stack = 15%  less damage from consecutive Critical Strikes.
I haven't done the math yet, but since Arcane has gotten a lot of buffs lately, and Fire is getting "balanced" (Since i've no idea how the patch will afect fire dps), and Frost Topping dps in rankings, and with no significant buffs or nerfs in the patch notes i suppose they will stay in tops.
So if anyone would be so kind to enlighten me what spect you guys think it would be the best for 7.1.5 and why.
