Survival Hunter 6.2

Recommended Posts

Guest Guest

I noticed you recommend Js Hunter Bar as an addon. I've been using JSHB happily for years, but it looks like it's no longer supported, and it finally broke. If I'm in survival spec it seems to mostly function, but causes my framerate to crash to an unplayable level. If I swap to MM it doesn't work at all (but my framerate is fine). If I swap to BM it mostly works after a /reload, apart from at least 1 minor thing (the tick mark that shows how much focus is needed to cast kill command is gone).

Is this happening to anyone else?

Sad word of caution: Assurance Of Consequence isn't working for Survival (no reduction in cooldowns).  Until it's fixed, TED and Haromm's are BiS for trinkets.

Pretty stupid nitpicky complaint about the guide but under the AoE section it states that Explosive Trap should be cast if two targets remain in the affected area for the duration. Explosive Trap no longer leaves a ground effect, instead anybody within 10 yards of the trap when it explodes will receive a debuff. Afterwards, they can be moved anywhere and still take damage.

Yeah, noticed that the other day in Naxx, where the trap wasn't leaving a ground effect (which I was planning on using the trap for).

Interesting that maxdps has Rune of Re-Origination as the best trinket. I may get one to test it on a dummy to see if pans out.

Wasn't working until I removed it and replaced it for me, so heads-up for everyone.

Is Barrage better than Glaive Toss once we have greater amounts of multistrike? I can't figure out if the focus cost puts it behind or not

Also now that Explosive Trap is ~93% AP is it worth using in rotation since each tick can multistrike?

In terms of damage on any number of targets (and regardless of multistrike), barrage > Glaive toss. Damage per focus, however, I'm not sure on.

Hey Guys,

It looks like your talents and rotations don't quite line up. For instance, you suggest taking glaive toss but don't put it in the rotation. Thanks!

We should be suggesting Barrage. SV isn't even remotely sensitive to its focus cost and if there is a fight with even 2 targets, you should be using Barrage. Only fight I would say to use Glaive on would be Iron Juggernaut.

Explosive Trap is a DPS gain if 2 or more targets will take at least 18 seconds of the DoT. So currently that would be Protectors, Paragons and Dark Shamans provided you stack them.

So this guide is for SV hunters yet the hunters that approved it are both MM and BM when looking them up in the armory? Would be nice to have an actual SV hunter approve this.

With pure DPS classes, it is very rare (if indeed it happens at all) that there is someone who plays a single spec. The way all top players do it is that they master all 3 specs, and play whichever one is strongest at any given time.

Azor and Yooz are two of the best hunters in the world and I've looked over this guide as well and I was the number one SV hunter in the US during SoO. If that makes you feel any better.

I'm a bit confused as to why mastery is so low on our stats priority.  Doesn't it increase almost all of our attacks (arcane, black arrow, explosive shot)?

Realistically, all three secondary stats (Crit, Haste, and Mastery) are all very close in weight.  Crit will still outweigh Mastery b/c it takes less Crit rating to get 1% Crit than it does Mastery to get 1% Mastery.  And then Haste is Haste which speeds up focus regen and shortens Cobra Shot cast time.

We've all seen the giant Hallowfall crystal and just how great it looks, but as it turns out, the light emanating from it actually changes in a sort of strange day/night cycle, and we get a really awesome transition into Void light animation!
First off we can see a snippet of the change in Blizzard's official short preview of the zone:
And then there's this extended look at the switch, showcasing just how impressive the animations are, by PreachGaming's Chunkeyninja:
And here's a slightly better look at the Void to Light transition, courtesy of Kexman:
The exact timing on the cycle isn't 100% clear, but MrGM noted how it works on the Alpha right now, with a 3 hour cycle, as the Void part remains active for 30 minutes:

Hopefully we'll also get some lore to go with the transition, as the light into void thing is pretty thematically interesting, as well as being really visually impressive.
