Table of Contents

Zoo Paladin is an aggressive deck that relies heavily trading cheap minions to eventually overwhelm the board and win the game compared to the more commonly known Warlock variant.

1. About the Author

This deck is presented to you by Pesty, a professional Hearthstone player playing since closed beta. He is a consistent legend player in both Wild and Standard with multiple high-rank finishes.

2. Aggro Zoo Paladin Gadgetzan Wild Deck

Our deck costs 6,800 Arcane Dust and it is made up of the following cards.

Paladin Cards Neutral Cards

2.1. Mana Curve

3. Strategy

Zoo paladin aims to control the board from the beginning of the game until the end using cards such as Argent Squire, Small-Time Buccaneer, Shielded Minibot and, Haunted Creeper to stick to the board from turns 1/2 onwards.

Throughout turns 2 and 3 you will be aiming to use your minions to control the board efficiently. Coghammer can be used to both grant one of your minions a divine shield to trade without dying and allow you to attack and remove minions yourself. Muster for Battle allows you to strengthen your board adding 3 more 1/1s for trading and a 1/4 weapon to help kill off weak minions.

Turn 4 is where the deck really starts to look strong. Cards like Blessing of Kings and Keeper of Uldaman let you buff any minions to further trade into bigger minions your opponent may have played. Piloted Shredder is another strong option to strengthen your board and is a good choice if you do not require a minion buff immediately.

Turn 5 onwards is where the deck starts to hit its late-game; you should be starting to think about pressuring your opponent's life total. If you are not yet convincingly controlling the board you may continue to use the tools available in your deck to trade as efficiently as possible until comfortably in control. If you start your turn with a much stronger board than your opponent, playing Loatheb will stop your opponent from playing spells to kill your minions and allow you 2 free turns to damage your opponent.

Sir Finley Mrrgglton adds a degree of flexibility to the deck. While doubling as a strong early game minion, choosing a hero power to match your opponent is almost invaluable. Mage's Fireblast and Druid's Shapeshift help you fight for the board against aggressive decks. Hunter's Steady Shot allows you to help push your early game momentum against more midrange decks and Warlock's Life Tap allows you to draw enough minions to maintain enough momentum against the healing and board clears of control decks.

Southsea Deckhand is strong due to the deck having access to 4 weapons with high durability giving consistent access to the charge ability of the card. When necessary, the card can be played in the early game to help secure the board. The card's charge ability can also be used to kill opponent's minions on the board to protect your higher value minions. However, the biggest strength is using the card to finish the game, combining this with buff cards such as Abusive Sergeant or Blessing of Kings allows you to burst your opponents health down which is something lacking in the Paladin's card pool.

Knife Juggler offers many strong synergies in this deck and is playable on an empty board on turn two for board pressure or with a follow up Muster for Battle but is best used in combination with other cards.

Steward of Darkshire Adds a bit of consistency, providing a solid 3 cost minion to the deck with the ability to make your early 1 health minions even harder to remove from the board. Again, this card is at its strongest before attacking with a Haunted Creeper giving the two resulting 1/1 Spectral Spiders a divine shield each and will also offer each of the minions spawned from Muster for Battle a divine shield.

More controlling decks typically have the tools required to neutralize the board created by your early game strength often resulting with few cards left in your hand. Divine Favor allows you to use your opponent's inability to play their own cards as fast as you to refill your hand with cards to populate the board and pick up where you left off.

Consecration is there to help you play against other aggressive decks, helping you clear their board if you lose the early game or to protect your own minions in the mid game. Against less aggressive decks, Consecration is less valuable but is often used only on one or two minions to help protect more valuable minions on your own board and keep pressure on your opponent.

Keeper of Uldaman is a strong and flexible card allowing you to change one of your weak minions into a 3/3 and give you a 3/4 minion, similar to Blessing of Kings. However, the cards ability to change an opponent's minion into a 3/3 allows any big threat to be traded into easily

Dr. Boom is a powerful card even for an aggressive deck allowing you to be able to push that little bit more using the momentum gained in early and mid-game.

3.1. Synergies & Combinations

Knife Juggler combined with Muster for Battle allows for 3 immediate damage to help clear a board or damage an opponent.

Playing Knife Juggler when triggering Haunted Creeper deathrattle can help swing an early game board.

Steward of Darkshire provides a resilient board when combined with Muster for Battle or Haunted Creeper deathrattle.

Blessing of Kings and any divine shield minion allows you to kill off your opponent's stronger minions for free while having a strong minion left on the board.

3.2. Mulligans & Matchup Specific Strategies.

The mulligan for this deck is fairly consistent. You will be aiming to have a smooth curve of minions to allow you to comfortably tempo out the game. You should always keep a copy of Small-Time Buccaneer, Shielded Minibot and Muster for Battle in your hand due to the sheer strength of these cards.

Against aggressive decks, Argent Squire and Shielded Minibot are invaluable, allowing you to freely trade into your opponents early minions, granting you early board control. With a bad mulligan, it can be worth keeping Consecration allowing you to surrender early-game board control and force your way back from turn 4 onwards.

Against Control decks, Piloted Shredder is worth keeping, because it is hard to remove. Keeping low cost minions is also strong if you can keep Divine Favor as you can refill your hand early to help maintain board pressure.

3.3. Card Swaps

Leeroy Jenkins can be included over Southsea Deckhand as a stronger but less flexible finisher.

Tirion Fordring can be included over Southsea Deckhand against slower decks.
