Secret Hunter is an archetype that has arisen from the One Night in Karazhan adventure. It utilises the power of Cloaked Huntress to dominate the early-game with Secrets and aims to maintain this Tempo to finish the game before the opponent is able to recover.

This is an aggressive version of the deck that aims to deal damage to the opponent as quickly as possible while using the presence of Secrets to distract and delay the opponent.

3. Strategy

This particular build of Hunter aims to use an excessive variety of Secrets to cause the opponent great discomfort trying to navigate them, while simultaneously trying to aggressively burn down the opponent in the process. It can offer strong rewards if you pay close attention to your Secret usage and are consistently able to pick the right option for the right situation.

Secretkeeper is included in the deck as a 1-drop due to how easily it can run away with the game if left unanswered. One of the most powerful possible starts for this deck is a turn 1 Secretkeeper into Cloaked Huntress with The Coin. This start can immediately win you the game as it allows you to create a Secret minefield for your opponent to traverse while creating a huge minion in the process. In a more normal scenario, you will often just be developing a secret on turn 2 which makes Secretkeeper the perfect 1-drop for the deck.

During the early-game you will be looking to develop a board quickly to start dealing damage to your opponent as soon as possible. To aid this, Argent Squire and Fiery Bat are included on top of the Secret package to help ensure you are able to consistently draw minion in the early-game. Though this deck is intended for all out aggression, it may be necessary to make a few trades at this stage of the game to make sure your minions stay on the board, especially if it means protecting a Secretkeeper.

The Cloaked Huntress inclusion in the deck is what enables to deck to viably run such large number of Secrets. Though the card can generate a large amount of Tempo, it is important to recognise that it is not always correct to play every Secret, even if it costs 0 Mana. Freezing Trap in particular holds a lot of strategic importance and can offer much more value when you are able to play it after isolating a strong minion on your opponent’s board. The other Secrets in the deck such as Cat Trick, Explosive Trap, and Snake Trap are less situational and therefore should be prioritised when trying to get extra value from Secretkeeper and Eaglehorn Bow.

Moving forward you should be looking play the remaining minions from your hand transition into all-out aggression with cards such as Animal Companion and Argent Horserider. It is especially important to deal as much damage to your opponent with your minion at this stage as this deck has no way to get back onto the board once the opponent has control. Eaglehorn Bow is a key card in the deck, due to the amount of Secrets in the deck you will be able to reliably get a large number of attacks out of a bow over the course of a game.

As you progress fully into the mid-game, it is important to keep track of how much burst damage you have available in your hand and plan your turns accordingly. Kill Command and Quick Shot provide reliable damage which can be held onto until you have the Mana to spare whereas Charge minions such as Argent Horserider need to be prioritised more highly to ensure they are able to do their damage before the opponent is able to prevent it with Taunt minions.

Due to the low curve of the deck, it is important to get as much value out of your Hero Power as possible as you will quickly run out of cards. Once you have lost control of the board, it is usually more advisable to prioritise using your Hero Power every turn over playing minions as it achieves more damage than a minion that would otherwise be immediately killed. Playing in this way also means that the cards you do have available will last longer allowing you to achieve more overall damage before running out of resources.

3.1. Synergies & Combinations

Cloaked Huntress can be used to play the numerous Secrets in the deck for 0 Mana.

Secretkeeper is able to be buffed when playing Secrets.

Eaglehorn Bow can gain durability when one of your Secrets activates.

Leeroy Jenkins gives your opponent minions which results in more hounds when used with Unleash the Hounds.

3.2. Mulligans & Matchup Specific Strategies.

You are always looking to mulligan for Fiery Bat, Argent Squire, Secretkeeper, and Cloaked Huntress in every matchup. If you already have a Secretkeeper, you can additionally keep a copy of Cat Trick as a follow-up to punish your opponent for using spell removal against your opening play, however should generally never keep Secrets in your opening hand as you can expect to naturally draw them due to the quantity in the deck.

Against Aggro, you can additionally keep Eaglehorn Bow in your opening hand to help fight for board control in the early-game.

Against Paladin, you should always be aiming to play Secretkeeper on turn 1 as this prevents them from playing their own Secrets unless they wish to buff your minions.

3.3. Card Swaps

The Secrets in the deck are fairly interchangeable and any combination can be used, with the exception of Dart Trap which is very weak in comparison.

Tracking can be included over Animal Companion to improve consistency in drawing key cards.
