1. Phase Shift

Brightwing Phase Shift
Phase Shift (Z) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Cooldown: 45 seconds

Teleport to an allied Hero.

Phase Shift Icon Phase Shift replaces Brightwing's ability to use a mount. Instead, activating Phase Shift allows her to teleport to an allied Hero after a short channeling time of two seconds. If Brightwing gets interrupted by enemy crowd control effects while channeling, the casting animation is canceled, and Phase Shift is put on a 10-second cooldown. If the allied target dies while Brightwing is still channeling, the casting animation gets canceled as well, however without triggering the 10-second cooldown.

Phase Shift is one of the reasons why Brightwing is considered to be one of the most impactful support Heroes when it comes to soaking experience and applying global pressure on the opposing team. Brightwing excels at drawing the attention of at least one enemy Hero to herself while she is split-pushing in lane, only to appear at her team's side a few seconds later in order to contest a map objective. This will often result in your own team outnumbering the enemy by one or two players, since most Heroes cannot keep up with the speed of Brightwing's teleport. However, the tactical advantage of Brightwing being able to globally reunite herself with the rest of her team comes at the cost of not being able to use a mount. Make sure to always keep an eye on the long cooldown of 45 seconds on your Phase Shift ability. If it is still recharging, you want to stay close to your team, because without the possibility to mount up, Brightwing's movement speed across the map is very slow. In general, you should only split-push or separate yourself from the rest of your team if Phase Shift is ready to be used.

2. Arcane Flare

Brightwing Arcane Flare
Arcane Flare (Q) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Mana: 35
  • Cooldown: 6 seconds

Deal 601 (285 + 4% per level) damage in a small area and 200 (95 + 4% per level) damage in a larger area.

Arcane Flare Icon Arcane Flare damages enemies in a small circular area. Targets standing close to the center of the circle take additional damage.

Brightwing - Arcane Flare

Arcane Flare is a very tricky ability, that may require some experience to be used efficiently. The projectile of Arcane Flare moves very slowly, which is why you always have to consider your target's movement, and cast it slightly ahead of your target's path. Against immovable objects like structures or walls, however, Arcane Flare provides a solid sieging tool that is capable of damaging buildings from afar. It is worth mentioning that the casting range of Arcane Flare is greater than the range of Forts and Towers, so feel free to attack enemy buildings even without Minion support.

During a team fight, it can become quite difficult to land an effective Arcane Flare, which is why you should never make casting Arcane Flare your main priority. Instead, try to use Polymorph Icon Polymorph and Pixie Dust Icon Pixie Dust first, as those spells will contribute a lot more to your teammates' performance over the course of the fight.

3. Polymorph

Brightwing Polymorph
Polymorph (W) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Mana: 60
  • Cooldown: 12 seconds

Target is slowed by 25% Movement Speed, and cannot attack and is Silenced making them unable to use Abilities for 1.25 seconds.

Polymorph Icon Polymorph transforms the target into a critter for 1.25 seconds, which means it can neither attack, nor use any Abilities during that time. It also slows the target's movement speed by 25% for 2 seconds.

There are very few spells in the game that counter mobile enemy Heroes better than Polymorph Icon Polymorph. Being able to completely shut down a hostile Assassin's damage potential for a short period of time can single-handedly decide the outcome of a team fight. Polymorph is a very versatile skill: not only does it prevent dangerous Assassins from wreaking havoc in your team's ranks, it can also be used to focus fire enemy Warriors. In the case of Warriors, it is done with the help of Critterize Icon Critterize at Level 16, which allows you to stop them from casting their protective abilities. The Heroes in the list below represent ideal targets to use your Polymorph on:

4. Pixie Dust

Brightwing Pixie Dust
Pixie Dust (E) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Mana: 60
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds

Increase target's Movement Speed by 20%, and reduces their damage taken from the next 2 Hero Basic Attacks by 75%. Lasts 4 seconds.

Pixie Dust Icon Pixie Dust increases the movement speed of an allied Hero by 20% and blocks the next two enemy Hero Basic Attacks made against this ally for 3 seconds, reducing its damage by 50%.

Pixie Dust fulfils two different roles in Brightwing's ability arsenal. Firstly, Pixie Dust can be used to protect an allied target by increasing its movement speed and blocking one enemy Basic Attack. This can be extremely useful on teammates who find themselves pursued by one or more enemy Heroes. Secondly, Pixie Dust can be used to increase your own movement speed in order to catch up with the rest of your team more quickly. Keep in mind, however, that this should never be the main purpose of Pixie Dust, and that you should always make sure to have the spell ready when a team fight is about to begin.

5. Blink Heal

Brightwing Blink Heal
Blink Heal (R) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Heroic Ability
  • Mana: 40
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds

Teleport to a nearby ally, healing them for 447 (213 + 4% per level). Can store 2 charges.

Blink Heal Icon Blink Heal allows Brightwing to teleport herself to a nearby friendly target, healing it for a medium amount. This Heroic ability has 2 charges and a 10-second recharge time.

Blink Heal instantly teleports Brightwing to a nearby allied Hero, while also healing it at the same time. This mutual benefit makes Blink Heal an incredibly versatile Heroic ability, as it will allow you to reposition yourself and heal damaged teammates at the same time. However, Blink Heal also has its downsides, most importantly that its healing amount is quite low compared to other strong heals like Rehgar's Ancestral Healing Icon Ancestral Healing which restores a huge amount of hit points at once. Consequently, Blink Heal should not mainly be used to heal Warriors in the frontline, but rather to keep your Assassins in the back line healthy and sustained. Another reason why you should avoid using Blink Heal on Warriors is the fact that it will always teleport you directly next to your targeted ally, which could result in Brightwing exposing herself to enemy crowd control spells.

One of the most important qualities as a Brightwing player is to remain calm and observant during all stages of the game. Blink Heal allows you to escape many sticky situations which makes a Brightwing a very elusive Hero. Remember that you can use Blink Heal on allied Minions and Mercenaries. This can be very useful when you are quickly looking for a safe location to Blink Heal to.

6. Emerald Wind

Brightwing Emerald Wind
Emerald Wind (R) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Heroic Ability
  • Mana: 90
  • Cooldown: 60 seconds

Create an expanding nova of wind, dealing 699 (332 + 4% per level) damage and pushing enemies away. Also passively increases the healing of Soothing Mist by 8%.

Emerald Wind Icon Emerald Wind causes Brightwing to create a gust of wind that damages all enemies caught in its path, while pushing them away at the same time. It also passively increases Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist's healing by 8%.

Brightwing's second Heroic Ability, Emerald Wind Icon Emerald Wind, is a very effective, yet situational choice that needs to be used with great caution. There are several requirements that need to be met before you should decide to pick Emerald Wind instead of Blink Heal Icon Blink Heal. Firstly, you should consider if you need a strong disengage ability to counter enemy initiators like Tyrael or Anub'arak. If the opposing team consists of at least two or more aggressive Warriors, Emerald Wind may indeed become a useful tool to keep them at bay. Secondly, you need to double-check whether your team has another Supporter in its lineup. Heroes like Tassadar or Tyrande can greatly assist Brightwing in keeping her teammates alive, which makes Emerald Wind a valid alternative to Blink Heal if there is an additional healer at your team's disposal. We are going to talk more about how and when to use Emerald Wind efficiently on the Strategy, Tips & Tricks page.

Keep in mind that Emerald Wind's passive effect increases Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist's healing by 8%, which is why you should always make sure to stay as close in order to heal as many of them as possible.

7. Soothing Mist

Brightwing Soothing Mist
Soothing Mist (D) World of Warcraft Brightwing
  • Trait
  • Cooldown: 4 seconds

Brightwing heals nearby allied Heroes for 252 (120 + 4% per level) every 4 seconds.

Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist passively heals Brightwing and nearby allied Heroes for a small amount every 5 seconds.

Soothing Mist is a very useful passive trait that does not require any Mana. This makes Brightwing an exceptionally stable laner during the early stages of the game, as she can continuously bully her laning opponent with the help of Arcane Flare Icon Arcane Flare and her Basic Attacks, while at the same time sustaining herself with Soothing Mist. One of the key talents to increase the efficiency of Soothing Mist is the Mistified Icon Mistified talent at Level 7. In doing so, Brightwing reduces Soothing Mist's cooldown by 1 second every time she uses one of her Basic Abilities. This allows her to heal nearby allies a lot more frequently, especially during team fights. One cannot underestimate the constant sustain that Soothing Mist offers to the team if combined with Mistified.

It is worth mentioning that Soothing Mist only triggers if there is at least one injured target in its radius. If Soothing Mist is inactive in this way, it will trigger instantly when an injured target enters the radius (or if an existing target takes damage). Always keep an eye on the cooldown of Soothing Mist, and make sure to be close to your allies when it is due to trigger, even if they are only slightly injured.
