Mage in 7.1.5 What spect to roll?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I've a question, What spect should we roll for 7.1.5?

So patch notes for 7.1.5 (November the 29th) are out.

And I have 2 things to remark

1.Strong buff to Arcane Mana cost for Arcane Blast has been reduced from 125% to 60% per Arcane Charge, since they are mana dependent. This does not apply It Was a tooltip bug.

2.Almost all fire skills were buffed in damage, Fireball,Flame Blast, PyroBlast, Scorch, FlameStrike, CinderStorm,Meteor,Conflag and Phoenix's Flames. BUT Critical Mass % was reduced from 15% to 10% and Pyretic Incantation was nerfed from 5% per stack  to 2% per stack = 15%  less damage from consecutive Critical Strikes.

I haven't done the math yet, but since Arcane has gotten a lot of buffs lately, and Fire is getting "balanced" (Since i've no idea how the patch will afect fire dps), and Frost Topping dps in rankings, and with no significant buffs or nerfs in the patch notes i suppose they will stay in tops.

So if anyone would be so kind to enlighten me what spect you guys think it would be the best for 7.1.5 and why.

Hey,

well basically you still can't tell which spec will be good since it is still PTR!

To your points:

1. Manacosts are still the same. Dataminer found out that it is just a Tooltip bug!

https://twitter.com/WarcraftDevs/status/803773777985187840

2. Fire has a huge nerf compared to live-servers. Fire is losing >10% base-crit, so you have to cast Fireball a lot!

It's not even just that Lily.  there is also the change to the rating conversion (350 -> 400), the flat 50% crit nerf to combustion.. over the course of a fight, we are (conservatively) losing 14 to 19% crit..  Equally important is how all the changes being made currently on the PTR will affect rotation and synergy within the spec.  Casting more fireballs is small potatoes next to our inability to create reliable crit chains that give us those small burst window between Combustions.  Add in the 10% nerf to RoP, and the removal of Ice Floes... they are doing what they promised not to do "fundamentally change a spec during/between tiers".  The changes are huge from all 4 corners.

It's too early to tell. Anything can change on the PTR and we can only be certain once the patch goes live.

For now, Arcane looks better and simpler. Frost was also made simpler but was nerfed. Fire has been heavily nerfed too, as already mentioned.

Hopefully, the devs will get some sense into them. The Fire Mage community has been in an outrage ever since the changes were announced, presenting devs with actual facts but they have been ignoring them so far (that comment from Kaivax, if I am not mistaken, was a PR disaster). They only adjusted the bracers a bit (from 150% to 200%, still a nerf from what it currently is) and they buffed Phoenix Flames by 30%. Let's hope that Mage overall gets some love, because it's not in a good place atm.

So, i've been saving AP , and i saved about 1.5Mill, and i decided to try Arcane-Fire Dps in the PTR both wth the same equip, both with flasks and crit food.

If you want i can go in the especifications of the equip later, and in a really short test, i got this results.

In a 3 minute fight,Item Level (869)

Fire: (weap lvl 29)

Damage 46.04m -- Dps 248K -- I used the same rotation i use in live, with WS and SB. and (2-1-2-2-1-2)

Arcane: (weap lvl 30)

Damage 57.84m -- Dps 307.3K -- I'm not a pro in arcane i probably messed up the rotation a bit. Ws and SB (2-1-2-3-1-1-1)

Notes: Getting a good crit chain going is really hard now, Arcane seems easier, with a lot of damage, but low mobility.

      Hello everyone,
Last patch gave us 40% and 10% damage increase on ray of frost and glacial spike
Does anyone know of these changes make them relevant ?
Should frost mage play with these or one of these now ?

Hi everyone. So I've read the guide on fire mage here on Icy-veins and got some questions related to single target rotation. First I'd like to ask about the meteor. It is mentioned that meteor should be used with Rune of Power which is fairly easy to do since Rune of Power is always ready when Metor is off cooldown. However It's also mentioned that Meteor should always be available when Combustion comes off cooldown. Now Combustion has a 2 min cooldown and meteor has 45 sec cooldown. I can use meteor twice while Combustion is on cooldown. However If I use Meteor twice , It is on cooldown when Combustion is ready. Should I wait for Combustion and not cast Meteor on the second time until Combustion is ready?
Second what I'd like to ask is about Combustion after the opener. Its mentioned that I need a hot streak before I pop It. I fish for Pyros by casting Fireball until I get a crit and then use Fire Blast. However when I get an Hot streak I'm already mid-casting Fireball. Should I cancel the cast and cast Rune of Power or should I let that Fireball hit and immediately after start casting Rune of Power?
It's also mentioned that I need to have a Fire Blast charge always ready before going in Combustion phase. Should I save up a charge and ignore the Heating Ups I get regardless and hope for Fireball to crit twice or basically wait for Fire Blast to get another charge?
      Thanks ?

I usually sim my characters to get the best possible results. I enjoy the process quite a lot and since I reached 120, I wanted to find out the best build of the spec. (Note, I didn't want to find out what to play, but rather how my own build fares in comarison.) I rarely mind a 1-2% difference. If it goes above 2%, I really mind a change. What this thread is about is mainly to bring something in the attention of those who help making the class guides, especially the talent choices. To my surprise, I was awed to find out that certain talents outperform previous "Standard" choices in the endgame, probably due to the stat squish.

The Frost go-to build (top dps) would probably be along the lines of <Icy Talons / Cold Heart - Runic Attenuation - Frozen Pulse - Gathering Storm - Breath of Sindragosa>. What I found out primarily was that after the removal of legendaries, Cold Heart severely underperforms at most given situations resulting in a major dps drop due to the low mastery. Gathering Storm also suffers from the same problem and most of the times, Frostwyrm's Fury is better overall. The biggest surprise of them all, however, was that Inexorable Assault overperforms quite a lot, and is the first reason why I made the topic. I then started simming with the above in mind and I came across a build that some would not consider on par with top dog builds around the meta, which is the use of Horn of Winter which overperforms both its other two options when using the Breath build. Talent Sim can be seen here. Another intresting thing, which I loved, was that the 2nd best build uses Obliteration as a lvl 100 talent and no other build surpassed it (Other than the first one, obviously). So, I encourage frost players out there to give their other, less common talents a try. To the class guide author(s), I believe that the two "underdog" talents will earn their spot in the class guides.

Thank you for your time reading this.

      Hi all,
Im not sure where to post this but im hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction.
TL;DR - My DPS is awful and i want to increase it
I played fire & frost spec back in cata upto 85 and have recently got back into WoW again and finally realised what people talk about when they play "end game" i wish id known about raiding sooner!
However, My DPS isnt great at all im eq 959 ilvl but my DPS comes out as low as 8-900 sometimes or i can hold a steady 1.1-1.2M. Simc comes out around 1.7M (obviously in a perfect world) but i still feel im doing something wrong.
Ive watched videos, read forums and im sure my rotation is right. Im using Flask, Food and Runes and Pre-potting. I have some logs here of garothi.

      and this is my Raider.io - https://raider.io/characters/eu/twisting-nether/Buksh
Not sure if ive posted this in the right place OR if ive given enough info to help. but anything would be hugely appreciated.

Hi everyone. I just killed HC Varimathras and I was surprised by my low damage. There was not second time warp because we used the first one at 20% HP but I think I should get higher numbers. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? Was it really only in TW? I do not think so :/.
