Below, we give you a brief overview of the abilities that Chromie has access to. You should read these ability descriptions before reading further, because the other pages of the guide assume that you have a basic knowledge of Chromie's abilities.

1. Sand Blast

After 1 second, fire a missile that deals 877 (416 + 4% per level) damage to the first enemy Hero hit.

Sand Blast Icon Sand Blast causes Chromie to fire a sand missile at the target direction, which passes through non-Hero targets (such as Minions, Mercenaries, and Structures) and damages the first enemy Hero hit. This ability comes with a 1-second delay before it gets activated.

Chromie is an Assassin who excels at damaging and finishing targets from a large distance. As such, Sand Blast Icon Sand Blast is her go-to ability, since it has a low cooldown and decent damage numbers. However, Sand Blast comes with a major twist: its projectile gets activated after a 1-second delay, which requires you to carefully anticipate your target's movement path.

As a rule of thumb, it is important to note that you should not be afraid to use Sand Blast whenever it is off cooldown. Its Mana cost and its cooldown are very low, which makes missing your target quite forgiving.

2. Dragon's Breath

Fire a blast into the air that lands after 1.5 seconds, dealing 1052 (500 + 4% per level) damage to enemies in an area. Enemies cannot see where the blast will land.

Dragon's Breath Icon Dragon's Breath causes Chromie to launch a circular projectile in the air, which damages all enemies in a target location upon impact. It is important to mention that enemies do not have vision on the landing location, which makes this ability very hard to predict for the opposing team. This ability comes with a 1.5-second delay before it gets activated.

Dragon's Breath Icon Dragon's Breath is Chromie's only source of waveclear. It has a longer cooldown and a casting delay than Sand Blast Icon Sand Blast, which requires you to use it very diligently. However, Dragon's Breath comes with a major advantage: the enemy team cannot see where you aimed it to land. This allows you to surprise your opponents by casting Dragon's Breath from vision-obscured terrain like bushes or walls for example.

We found the Mobius Loop Icon Mobius Loop talent at Level 6 to be an invaluable asset to Dragon's Breath. The lower cooldown and Mana cost make up for the reduced damage and allow Chromie to barrage her enemies very efficiently, especially if paired with Reaching through Time Icon Reaching through Time at Level 12.

3. Time Trap

Place a Time Trap that arms and Stealths after 2 seconds. The first enemy Hero to touch it will be put into Stasis for 2 seconds. Only 1 trap can exist at once.

Time Trap Icon Time Trap allows Chromie to place a Time Trap, which arms and stealthes itself after 2 seconds. The first enemy Hero to walk into it will be put into Stasis for 2 seconds, similar to Zeratul's Void Prison Icon Void Prison. There can only be 1 Time Trap active at the same time.

Time Trap Icon Time Trap is Chromie's only means of self-protection. Despite its activation time of 2 seconds, Time Trap proves to be a quite useful ability, as it can disable engaging threats like Warriors and melee Assassins for 2 seconds. You should always have a Time Trap near Chromie when you notice that a larger team fight is about to erupt. In the case of an emergency you can bait an enemy Hero into it and run away to safety.

Another good way of using Time Trap is to place it at choke points near Map Objectives, such as Shrines, Temples or Tributes. This way you can scout an enemy target and time your Sand Blast Icon Sand Blast and Dragon's Breath Icon Dragon's Breath to damage it as soon as it comes out of Stasis.

4. Slowing Sands

Place a sand vortex that greatly slows enemies inside it. The longer it is active the more it slows, up to 60% after 3 seconds.

Slowing Sands Icon Slowing Sands places a circular sand vortext on the target location that slows enemies' movement speed inside it. The movement speed debuff gets stronger over time, up to a maximum of 60% after Slowing Sands being active for 3 seconds.

Slowing Sands Icon Slowing Sands adds more crowd control to Chromie's kit, which can be quite impactful during prolongued team fights. One of Slowing Sands' biggest advantages is its extremely short cooldown and low Mana cost. Furthermore, Chromie can deactivate this Heroic Ability even while mounted, which makes it very flexible and easy to re-locate.

The best way to use Slowing Sands is one narrow choke points or around Map Objectives. Doing so will force the enemy team to either take a different path or fight in an unfavourable position.

5. Temporal Loop

Choose an enemy Hero. After 3 seconds, they will teleport back to the location where you cast Temporal Loop on them.

Temporal Loop Icon Temporal Loop enables Chromie to choose and mark a target enemy Hero. After a 3-second time window, the marked target will get teleported back to the location at which Temporal Loop had been originally cast on them.

Temporal Loop Icon Temporal Loop needs careful timing and anticipation in order to unfold its maximum value. However, it has the potential to lock down and kill a single enemy target in an instant, especially if your teammates follow suit.

When using Temporal Loop, make sure to carefully watch the 3-second time window. It is important to time Sand Blast Icon Sand Blast and Dragon's Breath Icon Dragon's Breath very precisely, since they both come with a short delay before getting activated. The ideal way to follow up on Temporal Loop is to cast Dragon's Breath while having 1.4 seconds left before your target gets re-located by Temporal Loop and follow up with Sand Blast when there are 0.9 seconds left on the clock. In a best case scenario both spells will impact on the target location at once to deal a heavy amount of damage immediately after Temporal Loop has expired.

6. Timewalker

You've traveled to the future, and as such, will learn your Talents 1 level earlier than your teammates!

Timewalker Icon Timewalker allows Chromie to choose new talents (including Heroic Abilities) one level earlier than other Heroes.

Timewalker Icon Timewalker is an incredibly useful passive trait, since it allows Chromie to reach power spikes earlier than any other Hero in the game. The ability to gain access to one of her Heroic Abilities at Level 9 alone is enough for Chromie to dominate mid-game team fights, especially while the enemy team is stuck at Level 9 as well.
