Interpreting your logs to find your weakness, Help

11 posts in this topic

So it is becoming painfully obvious that I am not pulling near what i should be. I just did two logs and am going through them to see where im going wrong and cant really see what the problem is. Wouldn't mind some people with a better eye for it taking a look. All I know is my DPS is low.

Logs:

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/dcXpFxCR86t24Jqh/#type=damage-done

Armory:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/proudmoore/Heartog/simple

Thanks for any help. Im just having trouble finding where I'm going wrong in  the logs or what to look for.

*Note* Skada and Recount both had me at 23.8k for the butcher fight not sure which to trust the logs or addons.

First off, Log Comparison between you and me

You had 10 casts of BA vs my 11, with the 12th possible having just come off cd 1s before you killed him.

4/5 casts of AMoC.

Delaying Coin for so long cost you a 3rd use.

Looking at total number of casts, I had 215 vs your 156 in the same amount of time.  With more uses of FS than you had.

0 casts of ES from 3:00 to 3:19, actually, it looks like you didn't do anything in this time period, and neither were you dead, so....

You focus capped quite a number of times, with a total of 124 wasted focus from FS.

You also didn't have a pet out.... EDIT: Looks like WCL hasn't merged the pets with their respective owners yet, this might take awhile and it does happen quite a bit it seems.  You'd gain ~2500 from this, but it still doesn't put you close to what you should be doing.

Okay, first at all: Both of you guys are doing something terrible wrong: Not using Barrage nor GT. That's a DPS loss of around 2-3k. (Even if sims say so. Try it out.)

Besides from fucking up your priority list quite often, the only other big thing I can find: You're firing your ES too early. You've had 54 casts, which would end up in 162 ticks and you only had 133. Always time your ES so it doesn't overwrite the old DoT. (Don't mind this, I was wrong.)

Comparison if you want to check out how I'm playing (we're about the same gear level)

Hi there, thanks for your analysis. Looking at the comparison has left me puzzled at how in the heck im short so many casts. The over focusing, missing out on my third coin etc are things I can pay better attention to and fix. What im left thinking though is how the heck Im leaving myself so many casts short.

Whilst they have less ticks, you'll notice that their ticks will do more damage.

ES clipping was changed since mop and whilst the rebuff refreshes, the old damage will simply carry over instead of being overwritten.

Barrage is also a minor DPS gain on single target, definitely not the 14% you put it to be for them, or 10% for you.

You are quite very wrong here. On a single target fight, barrage and GT are about 50-60 dps gains over not using your lvl 90 talent. This has been proven in simc a bazillion times, and if you look around, you'll find the posts regarding this. As for Explosive Shot, it has been a dps gain to spam it during LnL procs since the leftover damage is added into the dot when it is refreshed.

You're right! Haven't played MoP, so I thought ES would be the same as in Cataclysm. Good thing to know, tho. (I already found it out myself, wasn't able to edit it in time, cuz the post had to be approved and I went to sleep.)

Sims are another thing. They are sims, nothing else. I don't know why, but I've tested a few fights now with and without Barrage and I always tend to do around 1-3k more DPS overall. Single target only of course.

The sims might be "just sims", however, they do model real situations.  The fact that the sims do things perfectly and still only gets an increase of ~50 dps for FS SV says that in the game, the gain of using GT/Barrage would be even less.  If you are seeing a 1-3k dps increase by  using them, you are doing something wrong and I would be glad to go over your logs.

I'll upload some raid logs, but I don't think that will be before next friday. I don't want to take LFR logs or something. I know I'm doing some stuff wrong. Some focus capping, sometimes fucking op the prio list a bit and missing 2-3 seconds on a CD. For myself Barrage is working very fluidly into my rotation/prio list.

The fact that I'm beating my SimDPS quite a bit on Patchwerk bosses (Butcher) leaves me pretty confident that I'm at least doing something right. I'm still always open to try stuff to improve even more. Thanks for your help.

Actually they are barely worth using, which is why there are being buffed.

You are beating the sim'd numbers, because the sim is your average over like a 7 minute fight.  Butcher gets raped in about 3 minutes, which drastically increases the %uptime of Bloodlust, Coin, Potions, etc...

Sim your character with a 3 minute fight, and the sim will increase the output by about 3k..

Another butcher log from tonight :

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/A9vFa2HWf41QMGKr/#type=damage-done

Same old story with the lack of casts, I'm not really understanding whats going. 150ish casts again, I switched to LoneWolf for the fight just for the hell of it. Seeing the casts difference looks like I'm almost sitting there doing nothing. How high of an MS would really effect your dps? I'm running at about 100ms atm. Kinda reaching for what could be going on. The uptimes on ES,BA are a matter of me paying attention more but the casts are just something where I have no clue whats going on.

Deathsworn Verdict (Ravencrest) has been an active raiding guild since 2011 and over the years, we have always worked hard to progress through high-end content as a cohesive team. No day in Deathsworn Verdict goes without jokes and laughter, and we are immensely proud of the unique, inclusive guild atmosphere that we have cultivated.

What Can You Expect From Us?

This includes knowledge of the fight, correct gems and enchants as well as bringing consumables. · To have the drive to improve and be mature enough to handle constructive criticism. · To be able to communicate in English using a microphone + Discord. · We do not tolerate homophobia, sexism or racism in any form.

Potential raiders must have been gearing for the content.
Drama Queens and Trolls need not apply.
      Progression:
      7/7M, 2/3M (3/3H), 7/10M (10/10H)
      Our raid schedule is:
      Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday

Guild: Dawn of the Dead | http://www.dotd.org   Faction: Horde | Server: Zul'jin (PvE) | Timezone: EST   Current Progression: 9/10M Nighthold | 2/3M Trial of Valor | 7/7M Emerald Nightmare   We've been raiding max size raids continuously since WoW has been released and are the only guild to have done so here on Zul'jin. We have strong leadership, no drama, and plans to keep raiding for years to come. Unlike many guilds, we're not recruiting for the short term, and we don't over-recruit.   Website: www.dotd.org
Raid Times: Our schedule is 8-11 EST Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.   Needs: We are a small guild, and we expect high attendance. As such, we recruit people to raid, and desire people who can step in and contribute immediately. We don’t recruit people to sit around, so all spots are for raiders who can expect to be in most every raid.   We are currently looking to add skilled and reliable:   1-2 Melee or Ranged DPS
      1 Healer
      High: Holy Paladin
      Medium: Disc Priest
*ALL exceptional applicants will be considered regardless of the class.   What we ask of you:   Effort: Not all applicants come from highly progressed guilds, and that’s okay, but it does mean that you need to be prepared. We recruit the player, not the gear, but we do ask that you have some current experience and be a minimum iLvl of 885. You need to have the best gear available to you, (BoE, Crafted) with gems and top end enchants. You also need to be able to display an understanding of your class mechanics, role in a raid, and ability to learn new fights.   Attitude: It’s a game. We play for fun. How you fit in with the guild is taken very seriously. We’re a bunch of mostly 18-30 guys and girls who have fun playing together. While we have a good time, we also know when it’s time to buckle down and work hard.   Skill: The best way to determine skill is to see you in a raid. Because we don’t wish to have anyone transfer that we’re not serious about, be able to express your knowledge of your class and why you’re an exceptional player who would be an asset and is worth a shot. Gear will come with time. Skill will not. Impress us with your knowledge of your class and gameplay mechanics. Feel free to share any logs, theorycrafting, or other work you've done.   Commitment: We make a commitment to you, and ask you to do the same to us. A raid takes a team of more than 20 individuals working together. We rely on you to show up to raids, research your class and new fights, respect your fellow players, and notify us when you are unavailable. You rely on us for gear, experience, and coordination. It's a large investment of our time to train and gear new players, and we ask the same investment on your part so that we can each benefit.   We have a variety of informational resources available to prospective applicants on our web site: http://www.dotd.org-- please refer to our "Applications" forum for detailed information. Also feel free to visit us on WoWProgresss for more information and kill videos! http://www.wowprogress.com/guild/us/...wn+of+the+Dead   Should you wish to speak to someone in-game, please don't hesitate to reach out to an officer directly, whisper Xanah (Xana#1662) or Jeare (Jeare#1759).   We look forward to hearing from you soon!

      Hive have opened up recruitment!

Hive is a 2-day mythic raiding guild on Ravencrest-Alliance. We are a core of raiders who have been together since before the launch of Legion and are looking to expand on our Raiding Roster for the opening of Tomb of Sargeras. We are a fairly new guild and as such are a work in progress.
We are aiming for a spot within the top 20-30 guilds on Ravencrest on progress, and are looking for more raiders with an ambition and dedication at the same level.
      Recruitment:
      1x Rogue
      1x Warlock
      1x Mage
      1x Rogue
      Legion Progression:
      Emerald Nightmare: 7/7 M
      Trial of Valor: 2/3 M
      The Nighthold: 5/10 M

      Raid Days:
The raiding times in Hive are Thursday and Sunday from 19:30 until 23:30 Server time (CEST). Invites to the raids will go out starting at 19:15. We require all raiders to be ready and available to execute the first pull of the raid at 19:30.

      Loot:
The loot in Hive is distributed amongst the raiders through a Loot Council. This council includes 3 Officers and at least 2 Raiders. During the remainder of the Nighthold Raid, all Trial Raiders will have equal rights to any loot drops as a core raider - Once Tomb of Sargeras is open however, Raiders will have priority over Trial Raiders within reason.

      Requirements:
-All communication during raids will be in English and we require all our raiders to be on Discord and able to speak, with a functioning mic.
-80% attendance on main raids. Due to this low attendance requirement, we have a large roster of players and all raiders may be subject to rotation in the raiding team on any given night.
-A positive attitude towards constructive critisism - We expect all raiders to know their class through and through.
-Preparation. All raiders are required to show up with enough Flasks, Food, Health potions and Combat potions to last through a night of extensive progress wiping. We may also ask you to use Defiled Augment Runes on progress fights. Vantus Runes are provided by the guild bank.

      Contact:
If you are looking for further information or have any questions, feel free to contact any of our Officers on Battle.tag:
