Apexis Changes in WoW Patch 6.1

Recommended Posts

Apexis Crystals will continue to act as the secondary currency for catch-up gear going in to Patch 6.1; players who are coming in to the game fresh, or working on new alts, will want to take advantage of the upgradeable Ethereal gear from Apexis Crystals.

Nethaera posted a short blog on the official WoW website with some of the details, but above and beyond the existing uses for Apexis Crystals today, new item level 670 gear will become available next week with 6.1, and new Missions and Scouting Missives to unlock additional Apexis dailies are also being added.

The most significant change, however, is that Apexis dailies can no longer be completed while in raid groups - which, for ease of completion, had become the de facto way to quickly work through them (using the Group Finder). Parties will still be eligible to work together on them, but raid groups will not.

Public commentary suggests this change will not be well received, due to the general length of time it takes to complete Apexis quests. Will you be taking advantage of Apexis dailies for new gear after the patch, or is this change enough to discourage you?

I haven't used Apexis crystals since about 2 weeks into the expansion. The cost of items from Apexis is way too high. Running every LFR for 645/655 gear takes like 2-3 hours once a week. and the drop rate seems so much higher than in the past. You'll average at least 2 pieces per week running every LFR. getting 1 useful piece from apexis takes 30 minutes of grinding dailies every day for 2 weeks.

It's even more efficient to just farm for gold and buy BoE's than it is to do anything with apexis.

I was already discouraged by the amount of apexis crystal needed to buy epic gear.

I just did 5k to complete the second step of the legendary quest and then stopped farming them.

Since the drop rate is low, you need to farm like crazy to get capped (and by crazy I mean pure insane!) and even when you finally cap it, you realize you can only buy 1 item which is weaker than the one already on AH for like less than 10k gold. And 10k gold is nowhere near close to apexis crystal cap, farm-wise.

And with this patch, ppl don't even bother doing the daily quest to buy weekly seals with it, which is the only reason ppl does it. Go PvP, have some FUN (instead of wasting your time slaughtering some Iron Horde) , spend some honor to buy seals.

Unless they really jack up the follower quests and rewards for apexis crystals.  This is totally not a system for "catching up." right now you get 800-1000 a day maybe, so its 3-5 days for the first tier items, then everything else is 8-10 for 2nd tier and then 15-20 days for the next.  Even if you have 1 item that you want, that's a month of farming to get enough crystals.  How is that catch up?  Even after the next patch everything will be lower than or equal to what I have.  Even if there was something I wanted, by the time i get enough crystals, i'll have something better or another raid will be out.. lol.

To add to what's been said already, it's even worse that non-gear related items you can buy with the Apexis crystals actually require an additional amount of gold. Mainly mounts and followers. You have to grind the rep, and once you got the Apexis, you also dish out the gold.

While a lot of players won't necessarily care about 4-6K gold, the concept itself doesn't make sense. If you want us to focus on doing the dailies, then make things cheaper, or increase the drop rate of the crystals to make them worth our time and effort. And there doesn't seem to be enough interesting stuff to buy.

Anyway, I haven't used them at all, and only ended up buying a mount or follower in order to bring the total below the cap. Now that they are pushing the cap to 60K, I'll just keep them for longer. And probably get my seals with them. Until that is, I get the achievement for 50 invasions, at which point I'm not sure I'll keep doing the dailies.

If Blizzard wants to make Apexis useful they should merge garrison resources and apexis into one currency and give it the it the new 60,000 apexis cap. I'll farm apexis dailies if I can use them for my garrison, and currently I make 3-5k garrison resources per week that I'm just spending on herbs at my trading post so this would open up the possibility of buying gear with the resources I'm generating in my garrison already. Combining the two currencies into one would make every aspect of both way better, and I can't think of a single downside to doing this.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?
