Unhallowed Essence Multishot Demon Hunter

For an HC Demon Hunter, wouldn't it be more viable to use Grandeur (instead of Convention) to open up the chest slot for Beckon Sail (second cheat death, 120s cooldown, acts similar to Awareness)

I've been playing this build for most of Season 4 (almost all of my gear is ancient now and falls somewhat in line with the priority list given).  I think it's way too "glass canon" to go far in HC...even with a second "cheat death".  You may not want to take my word for it, since I've never done HC...but I can't imagine this surviving.

On the non-HC side...LOVING this build.  I've done GR 53 solo with it and I've got plenty of room on ancients to line up with the proper priorities.  It works very well in multiplayer 60+ GRs as long as there's some guys up front drawing attention and a healer around.  Bounce into a group of bad guys, caltrop, bounce out and find a corner, spam MS all day long.  I wouldn't mind buffing my teammates (more than Wolf Companion), but still I'm dumping some pretty serious damage...especially when the "MS hits twice" finally kicks in.

P.S. - I'm sure CoE is a good thing, but it takes too much effort to keep up with effectively.  I go with Unity solo and the Star on multiplayer.

I'm running this build with Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac in the Cube and I have 100% uptime for Vengeance. GR65 done is 6 minutes without a single death. And that's considering the fact that I'm using Cindercoat in the Cube so I don't have Dark Heart from Visage of Gunes.

I also prefer Bane of the Stricken to Taeguk, but maybe it's simply because I have not tried Taeguk with this build yet. Taking into account that with Seethe I literally never run out of resources, I may spam Multishot all night long. So probably giving it a try would be a good idea.

Can somebody explain why LoN isn't used instead of restraint and focus? I'm failing to see why it wouldn't be leaps and bounds better.

That is wrong! You will have huge dps increase even if you miss to time fire at some points. Nothing can even compare with it.

Legacy of Nightmares requires that you don't wear any other set pieces besides the two rings. You cannot use the Unhallowed Essence set as a consequence.

Hey Deadset,

Love your guides <3. Was wondering what would be a good alternative gem to use other than taeguk?

I swapped Teaguk for Stricken, but after just 1 rift I quickly changed it back! My guess is that Teaguk is mandatory for higher rifts.

Hey Deadset, thanks for this great guide! I've only have one question - I've been wondering why you seem to never mention Halcyon's Ascent as an amulet option for your builds that utilize Vengeance. Espcially with Dawn's passive, it comes up every 10 seconds on so, and Halcyon's passive seems to (I'm not quite sure) affect literally everything, including Champions and Elites (perhaps bosses too?). It really is one of the greatest forms of CC in the entire game and we know that 7 seconds is more than enough time that a Demon Hunter needs to turn everything into shreds. This question holds, of course, any meaning up to the point where we craft a good Hellfire Amulet only.

Is it really only about surviving at higher Grifts that you choose other amulets?

Taebuk seems like a requirement which is a shame. I like and hate it at the same time, it's a great gem, but 3 seconds is just too short, if you miss it one cycle it'll take forever to get the procs back up again. It should have lasted 10 seconds or something to give the player more room to breath. Maybe have the a secondary blue increase the *time* it lasts, like with another gem that I can't remember right now.

Which has a higher priority on a weapon: %- dmg vs discipline? For example I got this nice weapon that has 7% dmg and 9 discipline. I know it says in the listing on the previous page that %-dmg is higher but, 3 points of discipline is like 60% more dmg vs a possible 3% total gain? Please someone help me out here!

Heya - Halcyon is not a bad amulet, but with the introduction of diminishing returns of Crowd Control I hesitate to recommend such items on DPS-focused characters; as soon as they group up, it starts to mess with the effectiveness of Support member pulls and CC. It could be an option for solo though, I'll try it out when I get the chance.

If all the other stats are in place (high Dex, Crit Chance, CDR), the Socket instead of Vitality is not that big of a deal. It does cost you Toughness though.

Hey, Deadset. I've been running this build for a couple of days now, and I really enjoy it. I have one question, though. I recently found an ancient SoJ with 20% fire, 30% elite damage, 600+ dex, 30% CHD, and more importantly, 9 Discipline. I'm not overly familiar with how % damage mods operate with one another, but would the 9D (180% damage) be better than the 100% for F/R? That would let me cube Zodiac, run with a high roll ancient CoE, and swap Dawn for Calamity. Thoughts?

It's a setting called "Elective Mode" than you can enable in the gameplay settings.

Yep, it's a noob question. wink.png  ...but we were all noobs at one point. You need to enable Elective Mode. Open your game menu, choose “options,” then “gameplay,” and check the “elective mode” box. Then you can put any skill to any spot on your bar, and choose more than one skill from the same section.

Hope that helps!

EDIT--> I must not have refreshed the page or something, because that reply above me wasn't there when I posted... ohmy.png

Deadset's guides are the best on the web. Covers everything you could possibly want to know about a build, and offers alternatives and build tweaks to suit individual playstyle. Love that about your breakdown of the builds - they explain why each facet is the best, but also takes into account that people play the game differently and offers options within the build. Taking the time to accurately and concisely explain /why/ each element synergizes with the character build makes these guides a cut above the rest. If you've got questions on how to take your d3 character to the next level, this is where to find it. Thanks, Deadset.

I'm a bit confused. In the stat priority at torso, there are no sockets listet, does this mean that sockets on torso is "bad", and I can reroll that to some of the other stats, or is it a mistake? I was just wondering because pretty much all builds I have seen have sockets in the torso, as a high priority.

Another questions, on the off-hand what would be best to keep, vit or resource cost? My off-hand has dex, vit, AS, CC, resource cost, multishot % and discipline. I would like to reroll either vit or resource cost to CDR.

That would be a mistake, I simply haven't listed them as triple sockets roll naturally on class sets and it's impossible not to get them. You raise an interesting point though, I should list them to avoid reroll confusion.

I would reroll the RCR on the offhand to retain the big Vitality roll possible on offhands. It isn't a mistake to go glass cannon and roll the Vit though, it's a personal preference situation.

When looking at a hellfire amulet and haveing to choose between crit dmg or elemental dmg what is best?

(I know ideally you want both, but i can not find 1 that is good enough and a good passive)

The best answer I can give you is "probably Crit Damage", but for a precise calculation I highly recommend using d3planner.com. Just import your character and toy around with the amulet stats, it's easy to grasp and an amazing tool, I use it all the time. :)

Ok Thank you for the answer.

You were indeed right about Crit Damage being the best 1.
