Legion Alpha: New Dungeons and New Specs!

Recommended Posts

More dungeons and specialisations have just hit the Legion Alpha in the latest build! Make sure you check out what the new instances look like and which classes have been released!

Amidst all the new content that has just hit the Alpha, there have been some pretty major new releases. Amongst these is the level cap being raised to 108, as well as the two brand new instances: Neltharion's Lair and Eye of Azshara. Unfortunately, we are yet to see any new questing zones, but one can assume this isn't far behind them raising the level cap.

Eye of Azshara

The dungeon itself will see players battling against the minions of Azshara in a number of different settings, with the evidence of the Shattering laid bare for all to see. The atmosphere is actually pretty amazing, with the instance looking fantastic all-round. The mobs are interestingly positioned, but it seems like there is a real problem with space. Challenge Mode groups will no doubt have problems with their positioning and controlling their pulls.

The bosses included are as follows:

  • Warlord Parjesh, a simple fight with only one main mechanic of hiding behind adds.
  • Lady Hatecoil, an interesting boss that requires you to alternate between standing in the water and on sand, depending on the type of lightning spell being cast. There is also an extremely annoying debuff to contend with.
  • Serpentrix, a large snake-like boss similar to Megara in Throne of Thunder. It requires you to interrupt and kill the heads that it spawns, while also ensuring you keep moving with a debuff that spawns pools on the floor.
  • King Deepbeard, a large sea giant that requires you to actually take damage to stop damage to your party. Very cool mechanic involving bubbles here.
  • Wrath of Azshara, which I have no information on. She is contained in a purple bubble in the centre of the instance, but that's it. Our run was stalled with critical errors as soon as we spawned her.

The dungeon has since been closed again in order to repair the issues, so there won't be a video preview of this one, unfortunately. You can keep an eye out for a video preview of the dungeon either on my Twitter or YouTube when it releases once again.

Note that Eye of Azshara was opened a bit prematurely and we'll be closing it shortly - we'll post a separate feedback thread for that dungeon when we're ready for feedback.

Neltharion's Lair

Luckily, we managed to get into this one fast enough! The dungeon is located within Highmountain and you will journey to fight the Underking, Dargrul. It is rumoured that this might even be the lair which Deathwing brought the Demon Soul to during the War of the Ancients. If you've tried the dungeon, make sure you leave some feedback on the official thread here for US and EU.

The bosses included are as follows:

  • Rokmora, an exceptionally simple boss. You kill the adds and move from the cone attack. (3:30 in video)
  • Ularogg Cragshaper, who is unfortunately rather bugged at the moment. The fight will involve killing statues that spawn area damage around them, but they aren't working properly at the moment. (9:30 in video)
  • Naraxas, an interesting boss that spawns poison all over the floor constantly. Adds enter the fight that need to be killed before the boss can eat them. They will fixate on random players and chase them, but can be tanked with some healing. (15:00 in video)
  • Dargrul, who summons adds that must be killed. He also casts a number of AoE attacks, but they aren't really of much significance bar one. The magma wave hits rather hard and must be avoided by hiding behind the spikes he creates. Our kill here is actually a reset, but he was at 0.1% and you saw the whole fight anyway. (20:30 in video)

Blue Post on Class Changes

You can check out a post made by Celestalon on the US forums which details the main changes below:

Blizzard Icon Celestalon on Alpha Changes

Hey all,
Another new Alpha build today, which includes more new additions and changes:
  • New Specializations Unlocked – There are 3 new specializations ready for testing! We’d love any and all feedback about their gameplay, artifact quest lines, abilities, etc.
    • Arms Warrior
    • Subtlety Rogue
    • Restoration Shaman
  • Class Talent Status – We’re continuing to iterate on our class talents. This build has many talent revisions scattered around the classes, but an especially significant pass on many of the Mage talents (of all 3 specializations). Feedback there would be quite valuable. The feedback that we’ve gotten so far has lead us to make more significant revisions to several other classes and specs, that you’ll see in future builds, particularly Elemental, Enhancement, Marksmanship, Survival, and Blood.
  • Minor Glyph Status – Minor Glyphs in Legion will not provide any gameplay impact, only cosmetic, and only modifications to existing spells/abilities. However, many existing minor glyphs are being either ‘baked in’, converted into a new spell that you can learn from a book, or turned into a toy, and a few are being removed. We’re in the middle of going through that process, and this build has incomplete data. Stay tuned for the next build, which should have most of those things squared away.
Thanks, and we look forward to your feedback!

The axe-wielding, tree-burning dragon has a sense of humor, as he will laugh at anyone that dies to his fire during the raid encounter (and you get an achievement if you didn't get it before!
The Still Standing in the Fire achievement came along with patch 10.1 and Fyrakk Assaults. It was a little tricky to get as you had to find where to stand and die to the fire, which didn't really 1-shot you. Luckily with 10.2, it got a whole lot easier (well, for raiders anyway). The achievement is named after the original, where Deathwing had to kill you either during the Dragon Soul raid or when he was breathing all over Azeroth.
As spotted by ah_kooky_kat, dying to Fyrakk in the raid also triggers the achievement, and he still laughs at you!

The very old-school WeakAura in the screenshot also got a lot of attention the the thread below.

Players on live servers are currently experiencing a bug with negative Tender.
The Trading Post is currently experiencing some issues on live servers with December's updated rotation, as players are reporting negative Tender when checking this month's wares.
While we are not sure what is causing the bug, we've seen many reports of players being rewarded surplus Tender that is removed upon relogging to the game.

Many players are finding it confusing to acquire the Aberrus Raid Finder/Normal set appearances for transmogrification in Patch 10.2. This post is designed to clarify that process.
Currently, the only way to get Aberrus Normal, Heroic, or Mythic set appearances is to run the raid, user50010892 explains on Reddit.
The player catalyzed gear from Dreamsurges and Time Rifts and came to the following conclusion:
8/8 Adventurer Gear from Dreamsurges (item level 450) gave the Aberrus Raid Finder appearance when catalyzed. 8/8 Explorer Gear from Dreamsurges (item level 437 gave the Aberrus Raid Finder appearance when catalyzed 8/8 Adventurer Gear from Time Rifts (item level 450) provided the Aberrus Raid Finder appearance when catalyzed.

In Battle for Azeroth, players were given the choice to side with Sylvanas, but the latest Dragonflight questline involving Odyn lacks any choice leaving Warrior players unhappy.
Back in Battle for Azeroth, Horde players could either side with Sylvanas or against her during the story. Patch 10.2 introduces a similar questline that revolves around Odyn and Vyranoth. If you didn't play through it, I won't go into any spoilers, but Warrior players were not particularly happy with how the questline was executed, as they could not side with Odyn.
As a testament to that, we have the following Reddit thread with over 1.9K upvotes by Reddit user Maleficent-Way-2046 who says "I am a Warrior and have the Battlelord title, I carry Warswords of the Valarjar, why would I side against Odyn?" Well, that's a good question!
Instead, Blizzard could have given Warriors a choice to side with Odyn and some special interactions based on their choice. What do you think?
