What are Curious Coins in Legion?

Recommended Posts

You might have grabbed one of these new coins while leveling up over the past week, but may not know what it is! Here's a full guide to what the Curious Coins are and what you can spend them on.

As one of the new currencies that have arrived in Legion, the Curious Coins might be a bit of mystery to some. They can be dropped from the following sources:

  • Dropped by bosses in Legion dungeons (all difficulties)
  • Rare chests and spawns around the Broken Isles
  • Emissary and Mythic+ caches

When you do receive one, you'll notice the flavour text included on the item that leads you to a vendor by the name of Xur'ios in Dalaran. To find him, do the following:

  • Go to Dalaran and to the Northern bank.
  • Once there, turn left and walk towards the statue of Antonidas.
  • Xur'ios is standing between the two.

The vendor sells two "types" of items: those that are always available and those that are on a rotation. The items that are always available are all profession recipes and are listed as follows with their cost in Curious Coins:

Profession Item Cost
Leatherworking Recipe: Leather Love SeatRecipe: Leather Love Seat 1
Engineering Schematic: Mecha-Bond Imprint MatrixSchematic: Mecha-Bond Imprint Matrix 1
Blacksmithing Recipe: FlamespikeRecipe: Flamespike 1
Enchanting Formula: Soul FibrilFormula: Soul Fibril 1
Inscription Technique: Straszan MarkTechnique: Straszan Mark 1

The other items that are on a rotation can be slightly harder to grab hold of. A different item will appear on Xur'ios every day, with the possibility of there even being the same items for multiple days. If you're looking for a specific item, it's important to check back whenever you can. The following items are all part of the rotation, as well as being listed with their costs in Curious Coins:

Item Type Name Cost
Enchant Boon of the NetherBoon of the Nether 50
Player Buff Krota's ShieldKrota's Shield 50
Follower Equipment Ingram's PuzzleIngram's Puzzle 50
Player Buff Gjallar's Horn"Gjallar's "Horn" 50
Cosmetic Mote of LightMote of Light 50
Mount Arcadian War TurtleArcadian War Turtle 150

When it comes to actually farming these items, the best way to do so is just play the game itself. The drop chances are tied to completion of objectives that you would need to complete anyway, so go out into the world, complete your world quests, go through dungeons with your friends and hope that some of the coins drop.

Not seen any of these so far!  Are they tradeable :p

I looted from one in Eye of Azshara and, despite it popping up as a "piece of loot", it went straight to my currency tab. So I'm guessing not!

So that's how Curious Coin factors into the Mecha-Imprint Bond Matrix...I'd better get to leveling my engineer.

It's always nice to see homages to other titles, especially when you already know the reference. You have that moment of jumping up and down and pointing and going: "LOOK LOOK"

Blizzard are postponing the announced Destruction nerf after community feedback! The spec was supposed to get a change to its tier set that would drastically reduce it's AoE capabilities (but also got single-target buffs to compensate), and it was scheduled to arrive with this week's reset, but will instead come with Season 4. You can read more about this week's class tuning here.

Blizzard have now also added that they will also be nerfing Survival Hunters when Season 4 arrives.
      Class Tuning (Source)
In response to player feedback, we have elected to not make changes to Destruction Warlock this week. We expect to adjust Destruction as well as Survival Hunter with the beginning of Season 4.
Previously in our April 20 tuning, we made adjustments to Destruction Warlock and Survival Hunter to reign in their performance in M+. Those changes did not turn out to do enough, and we need to make further adjustments, but we realize this will have a significant impact on players who have committed time and effort into those specs for the conclusion of the M+ season.
Please prepare for reductions to Destruction Warlock and Survival Hunter damage in high target situations at the start of Season 4.

There's a new promo video on the revamped playworldofwarcraft.com site, called "The Tavern" as an Alliance knight has terrible nightmares of the real world! Thanks to MMO Champion for spotting it first!

We're back for another look at the Sepulcher DPS rankings, and it's looking very purple. But that may not last very long as Destruction's days may be numbered, with this week's upcoming class tuning poised to switch things up.
      95th Percentile
The Warlock duo remains at the top, but that's about to change as Destruction's long reign may be coming to an end this week, with the AoE nerf coming into effect. Demononlogy remains untouched so it may be our next overlord here, but Frost DK is very close, having moved past Survival this week, who also isn't that far behind. Just where Destro ends up remains to be seen, but it definitely won't be this far ahead of everyone else. Elemental is rising fast this week, moving 3 spots towards the top, as Unholy remains firm in 7th, and Marksmanship moves 2 spots up into 8th. Outlaw is also on the move, with a 3-point bump to 9th, as Arms closes out the top 10 in the same spot as last week. Affliction is getting a buff but it has also dragged itself out of the gutter before it, rising 4 spots up and leaving Subtlety and Frost to languish at the bottom.

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
The top 5 is the same as last week in the generalist bracket, with Destro's days being numbered. We see Elemental also rise here, moving past Unholy into 6th. Arms is the next mover here, as it jumps 3 spots into 11th, as Affliction wins the most improved medal once again, moving up even more here than in the high percentiles - a huge 10 spots from its dead-last spot the previous week. We do have a bit of a sad sight at the bottom now though, as Subtletly and Balance do keep their bottom two spots, but are joined by all three Mage specs just above.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
Arms' multi-week domination has come to a close as Demonology unseats it and takes the throne in Heroic, with Outlaw remaining solid in 3rd and Frost DKs moving up 2 into 4th. Where Heroic REALLY starts differing from Mythic is No.5, where Balance Druid jumped in with a 4 spot move, a far cry from its long-held bottom position in Mythic. Affliction remains at the very bottom, but that may change soon, as Arcane and Assassination join it there.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.
As always, if you want even more info on a spec, you can check out our class guides here, for a DPS tier list you can go here, or for even more data, head on over to Warcraft Logs. You can also check out our Sepulcher raid guides.

Here are two addons that look similar to the modernized Dragonflight UI.
Blizzard is looking to modernize the in-game User Interface in Dragonflight, letting you move elements around the screen to better fit your needs. We caught a short glimpse of the new UI during the Dragonflight Deep Dive panel. We must wait until the Dragonflight pre-patch hits live servers before we get our hands on the new UI.

However, you can get a very similar appearance using addons today. The first one's called Easy Frames.

The second addon is called SUI. It's an enhanced WoW UI with an intuitive and powerful configuration menu that's minimalistic and highly modular. SUI is probably the closest you can currently get to the Dragonflight UI.

Do you know of any addons that replicate the modernized Dragonflight UI? Let us know in the comments down below!
