Raid Preview: 7 Eerie Reasons to Enter the Emerald Nightmare

Recommended Posts

Blizzard gives us a taste of what's to come in Legion's very first raid, coming next week with Normals and Heroics, Mythics the week after!

A personal favorite for me is the C'thunian eye, complete with tentacles to "caress" foolhardy raiders.

The heroes of Azeroth venture into danger for countless reasons, and you’ll encounter seven of the most malignant in the upcoming Emerald Nightmare raid. Meet the twisted creatures who dwell within the once-pristine Emerald Dream, including corrupted druids, dragons, and demigods—along with the malevolent source of the Dream’s deep corruption.

The Emerald Dream was created by the titans as a blueprint for Azeroth itself—a verdant and perfect mirror that reflects the state of nature had it remained unspoiled by so-called civilization. For many years the druids and keepers who are closest to nature have noticed signs of an unsettling presence stirring within the Dream. Spurred on by the Legion and Nightmare Lord Xavius, that creeping corruption has now burst forth, and will engulf all of Azeroth if it is not rooted out at its source.

Developer Insights: : Ever since the first hints of the Emerald Dream were unearthed in classic World of Warcraft over a decade ago, it has been a place players and developers alike have wanted to explore. From the moment the earliest design documents took shape for Val’sharah, with a story revolving around the Nightmare seeping into a peaceful druidic grove, we had “Emerald Dream raid” penciled in as a central piece of the expansion’s content.

Because of the Dream’s nature as a mirror of our world—initially perfect, but now deeply corrupt—we began by brainstorming specific locations in Azeroth that had strong ties to druidism, and those set pieces served as the building blocks for the raid zone. Of course, showcasing the corrupt Emerald Nightmare does not necessarily scratch that itch to see the verdant and unspoiled Dream itself, glimpsed so many years ago. But if adventurers can persevere through the trials of the Nightmare Lord’s twisted realm, perhaps a piece of the pure Dream can still be reclaimed. . . .

The raid features multiple paths and portals, each taking players deeper into madness of the Emerald Nightmare. Save for Nythendra, Cenarius, and Xavius, the list below does not necessarily reflect the order in which you might encounter these corrupted horrors—but every brave hero should take careful note of who they’ll be facing within the Nightmare.

Clutch of Corruption

#7–Nythendra- Nythendra was once a member of the Green Dragonflight charged with guarding the world tree, Shaladrassil. When Xavius’ corruption of the Nightmare consumed Shaladrassil it consumed the sleeping guardian as well. Nythendra is now nothing more than a skeletal version of herself, swarming in pestilence, ready to devour anyone or anything foolish enough to enter her lair.

Mulgore

#6–Elerethe Renferal- Elerethe, once a mighty druid and adept shapeshifter, was led down a dark path by the belief that she was betrayed by her closest allies. Her consciousness now resides in the Nightmare, damning her to an existence of fear, confusion, and hatred.

Un’goro Crater

#5–Il’gynoth, Heart of Corruption- Lodged in the hollows of a now decrepit world tree, Il’gynoth is a manifestation of the horrors that lie at the heart of the Nightmare. It is a mass of corruption— a thing that should not be. It’s tendrils seep through the ground, emerging in countless horrifying eyestalks and limbs.

The Emerald Nightmare

#4–Dragons of Nightmare- The Emerald Dream was entrusted to Ysera for safekeeping, and the mightiest of her green dragon brood were assigned to stand watch over four portals that connected directly to Azeroth. But even before the Cataclysm, these dragons began to show signs of corruption. Now, the path to the Nightmare’s core runs through the dragon’s lair.

Grizzly Hills

#3–Ursoc- Ursoc is one of the Wild Gods. Patron of the furbolg, and closely linked to the druidic power of shapeshifting, the ancient great bear has long been a protector of Azeroth. But as Ursoc slumbered at his shrine in the Grizzly Hills, the world around him was plunged into corruption, and he awoke to torment and Nightmare, consuming and twisting his being.

Moonglade

#2–Cenarius- The demigod Cenarius is the father of druidism in Azeroth and one of the world's oldest and most powerful protectors. His disturbing slumber within the groves of Val’sharah was the first sign of the depth of the growing threat from within the Nightmare. That dark power now has complete hold over him, and he may lie beyond hope of redemption.

Rift of Aln

#1–Xavius- Once a powerful mage, and a councilor to Queen Azshara, Xavius forged a pact with Sargeras to enable the Legion’s first invasion of Azeroth. Cursed and tormented in the wake of that defeat, Xavius plots vengeance against the world from within the Rift of Aln. Those who venture into the Nightmare will face the full extent of his power, and his true form—a grotesque and distended monstrosity.

Any idea what is the best composition (numbers) for this raid, and wants to know if we will be able to raid with 10man or mechanics will gives us a headache?

I'm sure an "ideal" number will appear, but you definitely won't be unable to complete the raid due to numbers. (unless you're below 10)

Ny'alotha, the Waking City is the raid where we deal with N'Zoth and his forces and the armor is obviously heavily-inspired by the Old Gods. Today, we're looking at Cloth sets from the new raid.

Il'gynoth returns as a boss in Ny'alotha, the Patch 8.3 raid, and with it comes another round of whispers full of prophecies. What do they entail? This article contains spoilers.
We fought Il'gynoth back in the Emeral Nightmare and if you played in Legion, chances are you know that his prophecies have manifested themselves later on in Battle for Azeroth. He gave us hints on how Magni would become a pawn, which happened in Rise of Azshara, and much more. Now, he's back in Ny'alotha and his Voice Overs are full of riddles.
      Il'gynoth VO
      We've analyzed all whispers below.
This refers to Mueh'zala who is also referred to as the Father of Sleep based on WoWWiki. Mueh'zala is the loa of death worshipped by the Sandury Tribe, and likely, Bwonsamdi's boss, whose identity has not been unveiled yet.
The "Golden One" is Calia Menethil. Although the game did not contain information on how Sylvanas killed her and Calia got raised, 8.3 sound files hint at Calia becoming the new leader of the Forsaken and her plans to reclaim Lordaeron.
Il'gynoth claims Calia will bring only darkness. This may refer to the events of Patch 9.0 and beyond. Remember, that we faced Il'gynoth as a boss at the beginning of Legion and his prophecies came true just recently in Patch 8.2 Rise of Azshara.
The Val'kyr have some sort of pact with Sylvanas and it appears they are eager to fulfill her every wish. What that entails remains to be seen.
"The Vessel of Life" probably refers to the Green Dragonflight. It foreshadows a traitor amidst their ranks. Merithra, the Daughter of Ysera, has seen some screen time in Battle for Azeroth and what the future brings is uncertain as for now.
The Dragon Aspects have lost their powers after defeating Deathwing and in Battle for Azeroth, they're back helping us against N'Zoth.
Patch 8.3 Voice Overs suggest that Sylvanas, who's now wielding Xal'atath, wants to use it against N'Zoth to defeat him. Her deal with Queen Azshara was to bring the champions of the Alliance and the Horde to Nazjatar, and in Visions of N'Zoth, Azshara provides us with valuable information on how to defeat the God of the Deep.
In World of Warcraft there are six planes (realms of existence). We are the "cunning ones" and it seems we only serve one master, which is death.

Next, we're checking out the sound files for Queen Azshara and Sylvanas. They both had a bargain and in Patch 8.3, Azshara has the key to defeating N'Zoth. Spoiler alert!
Earlier today, we looked at sound files of multiple characters, containing spoilers on the future of the Forsaken and their leadership.
The sound files for Queen Azshara hint at the bargain she had with Sylvanas. Azshara would make both fleets crash to the ocean floor (Nazjatar) in exchange for Xal'atath. We know how that ended when Sylvanas claimed the blade for herself...
In Patch 8.3, Queen Azshara is tortured by Xanesh in Ny'alotha, the Waking City raid. We defeat the boss, and ultimately, she sides with us and reveals the key to defeating N'Zoth. We learn  that he is the weakest of his kin and the blade can be used to defeat him once and for all, which is how the raid is going to end.

Our preview of mounts added in World of Warcraft's forthcoming content update continues with the Aqir flying mount.
      Who are the Aqir?
      Aqir Flying Mount
The source of the mount remains unknown for now. Do you think it will be drop from N'Zoth on Mythic Difficulty?
