T16 Warlock Style - Heroic & Mythic

Siege of Orgrimmar - Warlock Specific Tips and Tricks by Encounter

Just as was done with Tier 15, below is a Warlock specific guide on how to approach each encounter in the Siege of Orgrimmar.

Immerseus

Recommended Spec: Destruction
Recommended Talents:

any - talents are inconsequential for this boss

ALL

- adds die quickly.  Immerseus is a glorified trash mob.

- Twilight Ward absorbs all forms of damage here.

Destruction
-cleave every chance possible

-use Shadowburn like it's going out of fashion.  Think Horridon's adds.  Slimes speed up as they lose health, so Shadowburn is clutch for stopping them immediately.

-adds can be handled by a couple of Conflagrates.  Chaos Bolt is overkill.

**HEROIC MODE**

Spec: Destruction

Talents: Grimoire of Sacrifice - Adds don't live long enough for the Imp to attack.  Immerseus needs hit harder per hit, not more often.

Individual Fight Stat Priority: Mastery > Haste >= Crit (Grim of Sac cleaving)

-When boss puts up Corruption stacks, hit him with 2 Chaos Bolts, AoE adds until stacks fall off, then 2 more CB's into boss.  When boss drops below 20%, hit him with Shadowburn.  Rain of Fire on the grouped adds should allow for endless Fire and Brimstone use while keeping Embers to CB/SB boss.  Havoc to boss from small adds if you can.  This will be difficult if your raid cleave is high, much like sniping Horridon adds could be.

-Use Twilight Ward when the slimes come back into Immerseus' body to reduce damage taken.

-Don't get hit by Swirl.  Set your Teleport somewhere and when Swirl passes it, simply Teleport to the other side of Swirl.

-Use KJC to continue DPS when a void zone is put under your feet.  Standing in to take another tick while finishing your cast is strongly not suggested.

-Phase 1 Summary: Don't stand in puddles, Teleport to avoid Swirl, don't get over 2 stacks of Corruption by using 2 Chaos Bolts on the boss when stacks go up.  AoE adds and finish boss with Shadowburns

-Phase 2 Summary: Burst adds with Conflagrate, Havoc, and Shadowburn.  Use Twilight Ward to prevent raid wide splash as adds reform into Immerseus.  Shadowfury stuns and Conflagrate slows should be used on the biggest group of adds.

The Fallen Protectors

Recommended Spec: Any
Recommended Talents:
T1 - Soul Leech - provides absorption effect for minor healing

T2 - Mortal Coil - extra healing

T3 - Soul Link - provides healthy mitigation + healing

T4 - Unbound Will - can dispel Shadow Word:Bane

T5 - Affliction - Supremacy; Demonology - Service

T6 - Affliction - choice

ALL

- Multi-DoTing is the way to go.  Demonology Doom or Affliction all DoTs will steamroll this fight.  Avoid Destruction.

- Twilight Ward absorbs a good chunk of Calamity.  Twilight Ward should be used on CD.

Affliction
-standard multi-DoT fight.  Keep DoTs on all 3 keepers, but be weary of pushing a target into his or her 66/33% thresholds.

-keep Haunt up as much as possible on primary target

-DoT, but do not Haunt, Despair Spawns.  Damage done to these is reflected to its linked target, so large nuke attacks should be avoided.

-Drain Soul will not replenish shards because these adds do not "die"...they simply become purified

Demonolongy
-Doom all 3.  Focus energies on primary target, but keep up cleave on all targets (Shadowflame, Felstorm, Mannoroth's Fury + Immolation Aura)

-Doom the Embodied adds and any add that will take at least one tick to die
-killing adds while in Metamorphosis adds Demonic Fury.  Try to time killing adds while in Metamorphosis form.  Glyph of Soul Consumption also provides hefty healing from this.

**HEROIC MODE**

Virtually the same fight as normal mode with more punishing damage.  Approach fight the same way as you would normal mode with some minor tweaks

Specs

-Affliction provides very easy to maintain optimal DPS.  Priority should be keeping DoTs on everything at all times with ample use of Soul Swap.  Destruction and Demonology are fine, but shouldn't be able to achieve Affliction levels.

Talents

-Consider Mortal Coil for the extra healing after a Calamity or Inferno Strike.

-Consider Shadowfury if adds are problematic during Sun's Desperate Measures

Tactics

-Multi-DoT the shit out of everything at all times.  Have all 3 DoTs running as Affliction by abusing Soul Swap.  Use adds to regenerate Soul Shards at every opportunity.  Keep Doom up on everything and take advantage of cleaving when possible.  For Heroic, 275k-300k DPS should be an achievable amount of DPS to contribute to beating the 10:00 minute timer which is tight if 3 healing.

-Use Twilight Absorb on CD

-Use Unending Resolve when you receive Mark of Anguish.  Before Mark of Anguish wears off, be sure to pass the debuff to someone else...otherwise, you'll die very quickly.

Norushen

Recommended Spec: Affliction or Destruction
Recommended Talents:
T1 - Soul Leech - provides absorption effect for minor healing

T2 - Mortal Coil - reliable small heal

T3 - Soul Link - provides healthy mitigation + healing

T4 - Burning Rush - mobility

T5 - Affliction or Destruction - Supremacy (Imp)

T6 - Kil'Jaeden's Cunning

ALL - Quick add switching dictates Destruction or Affliction playstyle.  Burst adds every chance you get.  All damage done to adds is duplicated @100% to the boss, so this is your best way to do damage before becoming Purified.

Affliction
- DoT everything as it spawns.  Use constant adds to regenerate Soul Shards.

- For Purification Test, DoT all adds, keep Haunt up 100%, use smaller adds to replenish Soul Shards.
- use Glyph of Soul Consumption for high amounts of healing for each add killed with Drain Soul

- during normal phase, DoT boss and nuke adds.  All damage done to adds goes to boss, so it's like having Havoc!

Demonolongy
- Doom won't be up long enough to be worthwhile on adds.

- For Purification, Doom large add, nuke smallers.

- use Glyph of Soul Consumption for high amounts of healing for each add killed in Metamorphosis

Destruction

- Lots of small adds to Shadowburn for Burning Ember generation

- For Purification, use Havoc on large add and Shadowburn on smaller add for cleave

- during fight, use Havoc on Amalgam and Chaos Bolt/Shadowburn on smaller adds.  All damage done to adds is duplicated to Amalgam, so you triple dip with Havoc!

**HEROIC MODE**

Norushen is absolutely identical to normal mode for DPS.  Spec isn't necessarily important, just kill adds, avoid cutter, and enjoy the relatively relaxed Heroic.

Sha of Pride

Recommended Spec: Destruction

Recommended Talents:
T1 - Soul Leech - provides absorption effect for minor healing

T2 - Shadowfury - reliable stun for Manifestation of Pride

T3 - Soul Link - provides healthy mitigation + healing

T4 - Unbound Will - helps healers with dispels in a pinch

T5 - Sacrifice - lots of cleaving

T6 - Mannoroth's Fury (KJC in Heroic)

ALL: Pets do not benefit from Power of the Titans, but this is largely irrelevant.  Fight is mostly single target with an occasional large add you can replenish Soul Shards with.  If Affliction, let others AoE small adds.  As Destruction, AoE small adds.  If DPSing small adds, use Mannoroth's Fury.  The CD lines up extremely well with the spawning of the adds.  Make sure to use the Imp's Singe Magic or Unbound Will to immediately remove Mark of Arrogance while you have Gift of the Titans.

Affliction
- DoT adds and focus down immediately

- use Observer interrupt if needed to stop Mocking Blast
- manage DoTs properly and watch for Power of the Titans buff (15% Haste + 15% damage!)

- Bloodlust should be used at 30%...make sure to save Dark Soul for execute phase

Demonolongy
- AoE reflection adds that spawn...use Mannoroth's Fury for this

- Demonic Leap gets you to prisons faster

Destruction
- Havoc for cleave damage

- make sure adds are positioned properly before Shadowburn executing

**HEROIC MODE**

This fight is extremely cyclical, so you'll see the following pattern:

-Self-reflections - move out and either let tanks pick up or assist in DPS.  Don't pull aggro.  Shadowfury can stun them all

-Corrupted Crystal - immediately nuke hard

-Prisons - set your Teleport directly on top of one of the unlocking panels.  As soon as prisons go out, hit your teleport button to speed up breaking people out

-Manifestation of Pride - stun with Shadowfury while nuking (remember to Havoc!)

-Swelling Pride - Use Twilight Ward EVERY TIME

Typically, you'll want to try to close a rift JUST after killing the Manifestation of Pride.  There is some downtime before the Swelling Pride.  Other than that, I prefer Destruction here for the mega burst on Manifestations of Pride as well as the Corrupted Crystals.  Nothing specific for the pac-man phase, just dodge walls and adds until your team breaks you free.

Galakras

Recommended Spec: Destruction

Recommended Talents:
T1 - Soul Leech - provides absorption effect for minor healing

T2 - Shadowfury - stuns adds, mitigates tank damage

T3 - Soul Link - provides healthy mitigation + healing

T4 - Burning Rush - mobility

T5 - Sacrifice

T6 - Kil'Jaeden's Cunning/Mannoroth's Fury

ALL - Lots of AoE during P1 with focused DPS on Demolisher and special mini-bosses when necessary.  This caters largely to Destruction or Demonology.  Destruction is great for nuking Demo fast.  During Phase 2, pure single target DPS burn on Galakras.  Use Shadowfury to stun adds and mitigate tank damage.  I find KJC to be better suited for Destruction than MF because of the buff to Incinerate and easier to perform AoE while moving.

Destruction
- Fire and Brimstone makes quick work of the AoE trash.  Use Dark Soul + Chaos Bolt on Demolisher.

- Havoc Shadowburns at every opportunity

**HEROIC MODE**

Fight is largely unchanged from normal mode.  Everything just hits a bit harder and the burn on Galakras needs to be done with relentless assault.  During P2 burn, prepare to pop CDs such as Unending Resolve to assist healers with the massive AoE damage.  If you have 4 stacks of the fire debuff, remove yourself from the line of sharing damage until your stack resets.

Iron Juggernaut

Recommended Spec: Any
Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Mortal Coil

T3 - Soul Link

T4 - Burning Rush

T5 - Any

T6 - KJC/Archimode's Darkness

ALL - KJC is nice to keep DPS while moving.  If comfortable with Fel Flame, AD may prove useful for Demonology and Affliction.  Fight is largely single target...just DPS boss and move from mines.  Set your Teleport up and use quickly if you get the massive knockback during Siege Phase (Phase 2).  Fight is single target, so there are no spec specific tips.

**HEROIC MODE**

Heroic Iron Juggernaut is largely the same fight as normal with more damage.  Slightly more movement in the non-Siege phase with some sporadic saw blades and ground effect damage.  Cooldowns will be needed for the gigantic Pulse knockback.  You won't need defensive CDs in Phase 1, so use all of your defensive tools during P2.

Earthbreaker Haromm & Wavebinder Kardris

Recommended Spec: Any
Recommended Talents:
T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Mortal Coil

T3 - Soul Link

T4 - Burning Rush

T5 - Any

T6 - KJC/Mannoroth's Fury

ALL - Lots of movement during fight.  Fight plays into multi-dotting, but Destruction is good for nuking down Foul Slimes.  Demonology can do this with Hand of Guldan and Manno's Fury + Hellfire/Immo Aura.  Affliction should focus on the two bosses.

Affliction
- keep DoTs on both bosses

- use Foul Slimes to regenerate Soul Shards
- Soulburn: Curse of Exhaustion can be used to slow Foul Slimes, but should be pretty negligible considering their HP

Demonolongy
- Hand of Guldan slows Foul Slimes
- Chaos Wave nukes Foul Slimes

- keep Doom up on both bosses and use Felguard's Felstorm when bosses are stacked

Destruction
- Havoc on CD to hit both bosses with Chaos Bolts

- if possible, use Havoc on bosses and use Shadowburn on Foul Slimes

- Fire and Brimstone: Conflagrate slows all the Foul Slimes and makes them less deadly

**HEROIC MODE**

New mechanic to pay attention to: Iron Prison.  This is a debuff that lasts 60 seconds and will do 100% of your HP upon expiring.  Soul Leech prevents you from being one shot, but Sacrificial Pact negates a huge chunk of this damage, if not all of it.  Sac Pact is essential.  Depending on your role, Affliction or Destruction is fine.  Cleave down slimes, avoid raid damage, and survive Iron Prison.  Destruction can solo the Slimes, so this may be useful to your raid.  FnB Conflagrate is an AoE snare in this case.

General Nazgrim

Recommended Spec: Any

Affliction
- use adds to replenish Soul Shards

Destruction
- Havoc Chaos Bolts onto Nazgrim from adds

- Havoc Shadowburns onto Nazgrim from adds

**HEROIC MODE**

Fight is very similar to normal mode with an extra add that fixates on you and shoots a conal spray of bullets.  Primary focus should be taking down adds without prejudice, so Havoc and multi-DoTing are awesome here.  Shadowfury can be used to stun all of the adds and sacrificing a Felhunter or using an Observer allows you to interrupt the Warshaman's healing and the Arcweaver's nuke.  Avoid raid damage, stun/interrupt things, and this guy falls over rather easily.

Malkorok

Recommended Spec: Any
Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Mortal Coil

T3 - Soul Link (for HP pool)

T4 - doesn't matter

T5 - Grimoire of Sacrifice (for HP pool)

T6 - Archimode's Darkness (KJC in Heroic)

All

- use your Teleport to avoid falling damage when knocked up in the air
- use single target DPS rotation on boss

- use Twilight Ward to absorb lots of Shadow damage

**HEROIC MODE**

One major mechanic change here - lots of orbs of light.  Orbs will remove all of your shields and do damage to you making them a necessity to avoid.  During P1, do fight exactly like normal while dodging the formation of the balls as well as not hitting them.  In Phase 2, you get rooted with the AoE damage debuff, so stacking with the tanks is no longer viable.  Absorption of the balls is also necessary during this phase, so pop active defensive CDs such as Unending Resolve and absorb as many balls as possible.  Time to do this is limited, and also be sure to use a Healthstone before the Ancient Miasma goes back into effect.

Secured Stockpile of Pandaren Spoils

Recommended Spec: Destruction
Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Shadowfury

T3 - Soul Link

T4 - Doesn't Matter

T5 - Sacrifice

T6 - Archimode's Darkness

Destruction
- use Shadowburn to finish off low HP adds

- use Havoc + Chaos Bolt to destroy adds

- use Havoc on big adds and Shadowburn on smaller adds for optimal damage
- keep Rain of Fire up at all times and use with Mannoroth's Fury when possible

**HEROIC MODE**

Only new mechanic to the fight is a tigher DPS check and a new type of add that blows up if not killed in 10 seconds.  These sparks must be obliterated, and Destruction is set up nicely to kill them.  You'll receive a new spark every time an add on the other room is killed.

Thok the Bloodthirsty

Recommended Spec: Any

Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Mortal Coil

T3 - Soul Link (HP pool)

T4 - Burning Rush - use to avoid Pursuit of Thok if fixated

T5 - Grimoire Sacrifice

T6 - Kil'Jaeden's Cunning

ALL

- DoT jailer and focus on Thok
- use proper spell timing to avoid Thok's interrupt mechanic

- use KJC so you can continue using filler during his pursuit of others

**HEROIC MODE**

Heroic Thok is largely the same except he has a much larger HP pool meaning you'll be in his stacking phase longer.  This means you'll be dealing with his interrupt mechanic much more often.  Glyph Unending Resolve so that you can use it every 2 minutes.  Utilize Devotion Aura and Hand of Protections for free casting.  For Affliction, prepare to use a stop-casting button often with Malefic Grasp.  For Destruction, consume Backdraft with Chaos Bolt to get a cast off during high stacks of Acceleration.  For Demonology, try to pool some of your Demonic Fury earlier in the phase so that you can stay in Metamorphosis longer during high Acceleration stacks.  Cleave onto the jailer, and don't get fixated so that your Gateway does not despawn.

Siegecrafter Blackfuse

Recommended Spec: Destro if going on belt - otherwise, Affliction/Demonology
Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Mortal Coil

T3 - Soul Link

T4 - Burning Rush

T5 - Supremacy

T6 - KJC

All - Talents and play depend on your job.  If going on the belt, go Destruction and burst the assigned add.  If not going on belt, focus single target damage on boss.  Lots of movement, so take KJC.

Affliction
- keep DoTs rolling on boss at all times and switch to adds

- if on conveyor belt, don't bother multi-dotting non kill targets unless you apply UA with 2pc T16

Destruction
- burst conveyor belt adds

Paragons of the Klaxxi

Recommended Spec: Demonology
Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Shadowfury - stun adds

T3 - Soul Link

T4 - Burning Rush - use to escape Hungry Kachong

T5 - Grimoire of Supremacy

T6 - Archimode's Darkness

Demonology
- multi-dot Doom, especially with UVLS procs

Garrosh Hellscream

Recommended Spec: Destruction/Affliction

Recommended Talents:

T1 - Soul Leech

T2 - Shadowfury - use to stun MC'd people

T3 - Soul Link

T4 - Burning Rush

T5 - Grimoire of Supremacy

T6 - KJC

All - use KJC for constant moving and sustaining DPS.  If your team needs more interrupts, consider the Observer, Felpup, or Grim of Sacrifice to acquire that ability.  Breaking people out of MC's is the most important part of this fight and will be the reason you wipe if not done correctly.

Affliction
- DoT Desecrated Weapon in P1 and P2

- use Seed of Corruption on adds in P1 to do AoE

- use Desecrated Weapon and other adds to regenerate Soul Shards
- use Haunt to gain aggro immediately on adds that spawn from Corrupted Whirlwind in P2 and P3

- avoid putting DoTs up on MC'd people, especially UA!  Use Fel Flame to DPS them down.  Don't waste Soul Shards using Haunt

Destruction

- use Havoc + Shadowburn from Desecrated Weapon onto Garrosh every opportunity

- use Havoc + Shadowburn from adds onto Garrosh every opportunity

- keep Rain of Fire on adds during P1

- use Conflagrate to instantly gain aggro of adds that spawn from Corrupted Whirlwind in P2 and P3

- DO NOT CHAOS BOLT MC'D PEOPLE

- use Incinerate or Conflagrate to break people out of MC

I tested Immerseus on the PTR and you could use your gateway to bypass the Swirl. Put it from one platform to the next and use it when the Swirl is about to reach you. However, there's a bug that causes gateways to randomly despawn even if you're standing right next to it.

Thanks for the info, Zagam. Was wondering if Destro is going to be of much use at all in the next tier. Stat scaling (among other things) still needs serious help though.

For Malkorok I would take AD - few movements at the whole fight - and Dark Regeneration for the 20sec of Hellish healing Nightmare

I can't make tremendous recommendations because all too often, they change things for live launch.  I'll need to see the fight, participate in it, and get a feel for it before I make rock solid recommendations.  First two bosses were easy as hell to figure out from the journal.  My goal is to get Norushen and Sha of Pride explained so that Flex raiders will have a full guide on how to deal with things.  I expect most of the guilds who go beyond Sha of Pride to be skilled players who can get by mostly on their own until I slap some info up.  Remember, all input is good input, so bring your tips here!

On fights with lots of little adds and cleave capabilities, yes, it'll be a solid choice.  Losing KJC Chaos Bolt is frustrating, but we'll deal.  I haven't seen anything with any Heroic modes, but typically any time you have a secondary target or lots of little ones, Destruction does much better than single target.  It's also largely tied to RNG of procs...last night, I pushed 203k on Raden my second time trying it as Destruction.  First time was like 160k.  The difference?  10 stack of Wush on 4 of the 5 Essences of Anima we had to kill.  Avg Chaos Bolt was like 800k.

Will Destruction have a place for those skilled Warlocks who insist on the spec?  Yes.  But those players would do more if they played another spec they were just as comfortable with.  Regardless, the difference in DPS from the specs will be noticeable but won't likely cause an enrage.  Play the spec you're most comfortable with because a very skilled Destro will outperform a mediocre Affliction.

Well I'm still not liking Demo all that much, so I might give Aff another try in 5.4, if I stay subbed that long. A lot more I could say, but at this point it's futile.

Guide has been updated to cover all you Flex raiders who will see the first wing up to Sha of Pride.  More work will be done for those pushing normal raids this week.  Remember to add tips and tricks in here so we can spread the wealth of knowledge.  This will be MUCH more comprehensive after I clear the instance and know exactly how each fight is tuned live.

we went 7/12 last night and for Earthbreaker Haromm & Wavebinder Kardris ,the 7th boss, the 2 of us affliction locks were having our pets die multiple attempts and we ended up having to go sac for it. I even used the imp for it and he kept dying ><

7/14.  There are 14 bosses :)  I had a similar issue when I fought the Dark Shamans.  Observer died on our wipe (I played Affliction), so I went Destruction and used the Fel Imp.  He still died somewhere, but I just resummoned.  Not sure if their AoE defense is gone or bugged or what.  I noticed him dying quite a few times throughout the raid.

I had that issue too with my Felguard.  Then I realized that I had his threatening presence up from when I was killing shit on the island.  Whoopsy-daisy.

Sounds like you'd need really high base DPS if you're going to do nerfed damage to the boss the entire time.  It just doesn't seem worth it if you've got people that can focus down the adds quickly enough.

Um, horrible.  You'll be doing a ton less DPS to the boss.  Healers are not essential to go into test realm.  Send tanks and DPS only.

Why you gotta be so defensive boo?  You are very anger face today.  Let me know if you need to vent, we can get through this!

went 4/14 tonight , raid leader stopped and went "OKAY WHO NEEDS LEWT" middle of the raid , waited like 30 mins to pull bosses cause ofc , half the raid doesn't bother reading anything at all.

but aside of that , demo on sha of pride was really good . I macro'd my Immo Aura with MF and the adds literally blew up , pushed 300k. :D

immerseus: affliction dots barely get to tick on adds before they die, destro barely gets more than 1 hard cast on adds before they die. in 5.3 heroic gear, demo ended up being highest overall DPS just because of high damage on boss.

protectors: i was NOT getting soulshard recharge from the adds. very annoying. that being said, the new soul swap is really helpful for quickly spreading DOTs without shards for soulburn. i think it's a tie between demo and affliction, assuming decent UVLS dooms.

norushen: all adds recharge soulshards. your performance is entirely dependent on how fast you are at sb:ss because the adds melt very fast.

pride: in 5.3 heroic gear, demo and destro definitely stomp affliction. the pacing of the fight is like heroic leishen phase 2-3: mostly single target burn with occasional AOE nuke phases and movement.

Killed 8 bosses on first day, I was out for Immerseus because one officer being a dick and trinket dropped its whole another story. Played all 7 fights as Affliction.

Protectors: Standart council fight, keeping DoTs on 3 targets and adds results a pretty good dps even though adds doesn't give back shards.

Norushen: I used portal when fight started and maintained 0 corruption whole fight. It was amazing fight for Affliction especially when you can spread empowered DoTs with Soul Swap.

Sha: MF totally rocks here, adds spawn on 1 minute cycle so popping MF and spamming SoC gives an incredible spike on total dps and also rapes adds. Movement is not immense on this fight, you can do most of the movement with circle and gateway so KJC isn't neccessary and I don't think AD can help as much as MF.

Galakras: Tried Destuction first because I had Destro/Aff on me due to Proving Grounds. Affliction wasn't that bad but guildie warlocks said Demo is better but I can say Desto isn't competitive even for an add fight.

Juggernaut: One shotted that boss so I don't have a straight idea,p layed Aff with DA and it was decent.

Shamans: Demo guildie has beaten me here because he was raping slimes. Two targets were pretty decent for Affliction, also played with AD here.

Nazgrim: Adds don't respawn after a wipe so starting burst doesn't matter. Multi dotting was pretty good and Demo has consequences because Wild Imps can still hit the boss on Defensive Stance. Played with AD again.

After 7 bosses, I don't think KJC isn't needed for most of bosses, AD is pretty solid alternative and even MF is viable for Aff.

Quick question about Immerseus 10N:

My comp runs two Afflocks, and I from my understanding, deally you'd want an Affliction lock floating a bit rather than focusing on trying to burst down adds. From what I saw in Flex, the adds can go down pretty quickly, but also get back to Immerseus pretty quickly. In this situation, would Glyph of Demon Training and Fel Imp be useful to burst down the slimes a bit, or is the gain too marginal to warrant a glyph slot?

Thanks.
