The Heroes of the Storm subreddit talked to Senior Game Designer Jade Martin and Concept Artist Oscar Vega and here's a recap of the interview.

Check out the full interview here.

Interview Highlights

  • To complement the 2019 role rework and give players an idea about a Hero's playstyle, they try to give small descriptions on what Heroes are good at. For example, there are CC tanks, self-sustain tanks, etc.
  • Clans are off the table for now, because they work on features that are healthier for the game, like Quick Match improvements and Call of the Nexus. Clans would require a huge system overhaul.
  • Devs don't think that the recently-announced XP nerfs are going to kill split-pushing strategies. The changes may affect certain Heroes (Abathur, Murky, Sylvanas, The Lost Vikings), but they're going to adjust their kits/talents where necessary.
  • A Chen rework is still on their radar.
  • The team is particularly happy with Raynor's rework.
  • They're always listening to the community, that's why Raynor's trait was renamed to Give 'Em Some PepperGive 'Em Some Pepper and Janitor Leoric is also coming soon.
  • They got in touch with the concept artist and put his username on Janitor's Leoric nameplate on the shoulder.
  • Orphea has a school skin, where her monster has braces.
  • Quests will be reworked to reflect the role update.
  • The team's really happy with the pattern of Hero releases and reworks. When they're revisiting older Heroes, they try to deliver new skins or include them in an event.
  • They don't have anything specific to share about Blackheart's Bay updates.
  • Blaze's Bunker DropBunker Drop gets updated frequently, because it's a powerful ability.
  • Kevin was a little worried to become an announcer.
  • Ragnaros started off as a core replacement Hero and they moved away from that.

Glad to see some Blizz dev teams that actually listen to fans

You might learn a thing or two from these guys, Wyatt Cheng

if you're going to lie to me, you could at least make it believable.

I think it's just taking their sweet time for it. Remember how long we waited for a Raynor rework?

I still feel like Wyatt got railroaded into Immortal.  He did so many good things for RoS and seemed so passionate about D3; just having a hard time believing he didnt think the community would react like this.

" They're always listening to the community" Really? eg. Garden of terro? chromie rework to lose unique of her play style? Tyrande rework then nerf nerf nerf from week to week? before rework spell armor 15% after rework, nerf that. Stun range before rework is add 40%, after rework add 50% then later nerf to 40% then recently nerf to 30%. Really listen to community?

Our twenty-fourth Heroes of the Storm Meta Tier list for the month of January is here!
Welcome to Icy Veins's most belated Meta Tier List for the January 8 patch. The goal of this list is to try and detail game's current metagame state. The prime goal of such lists is to inform players regarding popular and trending team composition drafting strategies (i.e. the drafting metagame).
      Using the list

      Current ranked mode map rotation

Meta heroes define the metagame. They are very often banned or picked right away, as they generally dictate the pace of most drafts and matches.
Generalists form the core of your team and are generally picked after Meta picks have been distributed. They tend to work on most maps, and as part of and against most team compositions. Since this group includes most heroes, I elected to split it into three tiers. High-tier rankings are a result of performance (i.e. win rates) and popularity (i.e. pick and ban rates). This means that heroes with high win rates can be set in low tier; the opposite may also be true.
Situational picks shine on specific maps or as part of specific team compositions.
Our Meta Tier List has been updated for the January patch!
