Possible Mid-season Buff/Effect Coming to S21

The criticism of Season 21 continues, as the recent hotfixes didn't make players too happy (nor did the comment that certain abuses of the seasonal power are intended) and we have a couple of blue posts responding to player dissatisfaction. A lot of players have suggested simply removing the power and either resetting the season with a reworked one, or just cancelling the season entirely, but as you'd expect, that's just not going to happen:

I think this is legitimate feedback that the team is really well aware of with this and past seasons having similar mechanics and similar fanfare. I will say that I don't think the idea of canning a theme will ever be in the mix but can look at ways of making it better or doing something else.

But luckily that wasn't the only response given, as it seems Blizzard are aware that this season power is not the best and is very controversial, which is why they are thinking of adding an additional mid-season buff/effect, similar to last season's double goblins:

We don't plan on canning but maybe a mid-season thing similar to last season may be a good thing to incorporate. Will stew on it with others.

So hopefully we'll get something nice as a kind of compensation for the lackluster (to say the least) seasonal power, and since last season got double goblins, which were the first ever seasonal theme back in S14, it's perhaps possible that we might get a free Ring of Royal Grandeur effect, as that was the very next season's theme!

I'm definitely curious what exactly compelled them to go with double goblins in the middle of last season. Even after S20's end some people here were talking like it was the greatest seasonal theme ever... and while I hate to reveal how unimaginative I am for relying on established builds, it seemed like very few worthwhile S20-specific builds ever made the rounds. The idea was an excellent one but the execution was underwhelming. It was the only season so far I didn't bother finishing, though that's more an issue with work/life balance than anything.

Personally S17 was the absolute best diablo has to offer, even on a philosophical level. Don't see it ever being beaten.

I dunno, I think it also depends on the class and what you're going for. S20 definitely changed up the meta for necromancers, for example.

Also...I definitely miss having full flexibility with the Kanai Cube that we got last season... I would love to see that again! I'd take that as an additional mid-season buff...lol 😄

I had to look back on which season that was... Season of Nightmares was a pretty good one. I'd stop short of saying it's the best the franchise can offer, but it could be the best this specific game has offered - something to challenge the meta being unfortunately centered around sets. I'll go to bat for Diablo III any day of the week (and have probably said that twenty times here) but almost all paths point to sets for success and that's probably the biggest issue with the game as it is currently.

After Wudijo's recent Rank 1 and World 2nd GR 150 clear, beating his World First clan-mate by almost 5 minutes, he's made a video detailing his journey to the top. We find out some truly impressive stuff: his refusal to simply grind paragon levels to make the task easier, the fact he plays along side a full-time job and had to sacrifice a lot of sleep, we get to hear about the many near-misses and how he had to learn to perfectly play around the seasonal theme, the fact it took him twice as many keys as he thought it would (5.5K), the fact he used 60 keys an hour, the fact he used as many keys as last season, when he was pushing on 6 classes and a lot more!

Wudijo scored the world's fastest Solo Greater Rift 150 in time in Season 21 with his Demon Hunter after 5,500 used keys and weeks of attempts. Congrats!
UPDATE: This is currently the world's second clear of Solo GR150, not world first as we thought, we apologize for the confusion!
Placeholder for tweet 1289929742800449540   The player completed the rift and killed the Infernal Maiden with 1 minute and 4 seconds remaining on the timer.

Here are the final moments of the run!

It's time for some more weirdness as Wudijo is trying some crazy stuff! So how can someone get from level 1 to 70 in 5 seconds you might ask? Well it's easy! You just need 8 hours of torment 16 bounty farming, 1 crash where you almost lose 341 bounty caches on the ground, Custerian Wristguards and Avarice Band! But after that it's only 5 seconds of picking up all the gold and getting a whole lot of XP through the bracers! Enjoy:

After the hotfixes, we now got further explanation on the exploit-like side of the issues with the seasonal power. One of the hotfixes prevented solo players from stacking up kills outside a Greater Rift and then procing it inside, but the other method players are using/abusing to get the most of the seasonal theme is apparently ok. Here's a quick explanation on what's actually happening by our own guide writer Impakt:
And here's the blue post confirming that that behavior is fine, and the final part especially seeming to indicate that this is the "meta" way for groups to use the seasonal power.
      Seasonal Power in Groups (source)
Per the design from the design team, the seasonal buff being passed around in groups is working as intended.
As noted in the hotfix items that Rich posted, the idea that you can grab stacks alone outside a GR to take them in and clear things correctly is not.
Season metas will change with each season.

We have those fixes for the seasonal power coming in, with visual and audio improvements, pets being able to generate stacks, a fix for the recent exploit-like carrying of the power back to the GR from outside, as well as some fixes for set dungeons.
      Season 21 hotfix (source)
This morning we launched a hotfix to address updates for Season 21: Trials of Tempest. Thanks to your feedback, we’ve been able to focus on audio and visual accessibility issues and the functionality of the Seasonal Theme procs. FYI, as a hotfix, you will not need to update your game. Simply exit out and re-login to grab the update.
      Hotfix Notes:
      • Lightning flashes will no longer occur when the seasonal effect for Lightning Breath and Tornadoes takes effect.
      • Audio horns has been removed from the PC version of the game. Console versions has had horns replaced with a light drum.
      • Pets can now generate stacks of the Seasonal theme.
      • Players can no longer carry an ongoing Seasonal theme effect into a Greater Rift. (Lightning Breath, Meteors)
      • Players can no longer carry a Seasonal theme effect to trigger outside a Greater Rift to only have it begin inside. (Tornadoes, Snowball, Fire Wave)
      • Pets no longer proc the seasonal theme in set dungeons. This is to address the issues of users having issues completing set dungeons.
As the season progresses, we welcome more of your feedback and want to give a big thanks to all of you for helping us get here - See you in hell!
