Windows Central Interview with Morgan Day: Covenant Balance, Switching, Renown Catch-Up

Recommended Posts

14JpAOK.jpg

Windows Central talked to Morgan Day from the WoW dev team about balancing Covenants, classes, and more. Here are highlights of their interview.

Interview Highlights

  • The devs feel like the biggest portion of player power will come from Soulbind Conduits, and they have a lot of balance tuning knobs that they can introduce with Conduits.
  • They want you to have clear strengths and weaknesses with these systems, e.g., you're good at AoE pulls, but weaker when it comes to single-target fights.
  • All elements that come from Covenants (Soulbinds, Conduits, Covenant Abilities) are all part of a larger package, so there must be some weaknesses that come from any of your choices.
  • If you're not going to get invited to Mythic+ because of your choice, then that's something they must address.
  • There is a max-level campaign, where you get unique content, based on the Covenant that you picked.
  • In the Necrotic Wake dungeon, there's an automaton on the ground that you can interact with and repair. It grants your party buffs.
  • They feel that Covenants are a holistic package that has plenty of interesting things to make you feel good about your choice.
  • Blizzard is still working to come up with solutions for switching Covenants.
  • Switching to a different Covenant if you regret your choice will not be taxing.
  • There might be some tasks that you need to complete when you want to rejoin the same Covenant, but the Renown Level you had with them before leaving will be saved.
  • Unlike Artifact/Azerite Power, Renown comes purely in levels; you will be given a level all in one go.
  • Callings are a revolution of Emissaries and are strongly-themed after Covenants.
  • There's a catch-up implemented for Renown; you'll receive it from Callings if you fall behind with Renown levels.
  • They've received a lot of feedback on Grievous (affix) that makes bosses perhaps too hard sometimes, so they want to introduce some counterplay for the affix.

"They want you to have clear strengths and weaknesses with these systems, e.g., you're good at AoE pulls, but weaker when it comes to single-target fights."

And ONCE AGAIN they make it so you can't do raid and mythic+ with the same setup. And on top of that with a system they want to be more fixed and not easily switchable.

Thanks Blizzard for making annoying changes every single patch

I hate having the choice between aoe and single target. I want to do good in both because i hit my rotation well not because i chose something i found more fun. Same with talents. Theyre supposed to be about choice, not situational.

I think thats kind of the point. Having a build thats just good at everything is boring. I like that you can change the soul binds pretty quick and easy so that part of the system I think is fine. The only issue I really have is with the cov ability being locked in. Its literally the only major flaw I see with the whole system. Those abilities do not look possible to properly balance

I agree that the point is to have to make meaningfull choices when you make a build, if you need more AoE or single target damage. Even tho I think it's better to just change how you play, and your rotation, to be better in AoE or single target, instead of just having a build perfect for AoE where you have nothing more to do but then you'll suck at single target. Player skill is more important than just changing your talent IMO BUT

I don't agree that this is tied to a system where you can't change easily between dungeons because it's supposed to be more of a "permanent" change and is horribly annoying to change.

They should just make it like talents you can go to town and change, instead of this horrible system, and thank god they made it so they're not destructible

Blizzard has buffed the Bronze you receive from bronze caches by 25% in MoP Remix to make up for today's Frog farm nerf.
In a hotfix released today, Blizzard has buffed bronze caches in MoP Remix to grant 25% more Bronze. Players can obtain various types of bronze caches by earning achievements, completing daily quests, or clearing the first random Heroic of the day.
Minor Bronze Cache now gives 200 250 Bronze. Lesser Bronze Cache now gives 400 500 Bronze. Bronze Cache now gives 600 750 Bronze. Greater Bronze Cache now gives 1,000 1,250 Bronze In addition to the buffs, Greater Bronze Cache can now drop from bosses on Normal Difficulty, further increasing the amount of Bronze you get from raids.

We're exploring spec diversity for each key level in Dragonflight Season 4!
Reddit user RaptorAnka pulled some interesting data from EU/US WoW Game Data APIs and created a visualization showing spec diversity in the ongoing season and how it changes with each key level.
The color intensity (high red for low diversity, low green for high diversity) indicates that certain specs are highly favored, leading to less diversity within those roles.

      DPS Specs
Augmentation Evoker is very dominant, especially at higher key levels, consistently appearing in the top spot. Shadow Priest has strong presence across all key levels, often appearing right after Augmentation Evoker. Fire Mage shows up frequently, mostly at higher key levels. Frost Mage also appears regularly, but not as much as Fire Mage. Tank Specs
Vengeance Demon Hunter is the top tank, maintaining near 100% representation. Blood Death Knight appears more frequently at mid-to-lower key levels as the Vengeande DH representation decreases slightly. We see some Guardian Druid presence at mid-levels. Healer Specs
Restoration Druid is very dominant, especially at higher key levels. Mistweaver Monk gains representation at mid-to-lower keys. Holy Paladin appears more frequently in the mid-to-low key levels. Source: Reddit

Horde Timerunners can purchase shirts in Silvermoon City during the Landfall Campaign in MoP Remix.
During the Landfall Campaign in MoP Remix, Horde Timerunners will find themselves in Silvermoon City with the opportunity to buy special BoE Horde shirts from Andra.

The exact location of the vendor is marked by the player arrow in the included screenshot by Nidocide.

If you're curious, attempting to leave the city will teleport your character to Jade Forest, as confirmed by the original poster (OP).
A player asked the OP if it's possible to mail these shirts cross-faction to another Timerunner. Unfortunately, the OP couldn't test this as they had progressed too far in the quest chain, making a return to Silvermoon City impossible.

Update: the farm has been nerfed a little! Lesser Charms no longer drop, making it less lucrative.

It didn't take long for players to find the absolute best way to farm in Remix: Mists of Pandaria! And no, we're not talking about the Tillers' farm!
The Timeless Isle and its frogs are back and are the focus of all the farming going on at the moment, as it seems to be the best way to get pretty much everything you want from the event! The frogs are elites and tend to hyper spawn (meaning they have an incredibly fast spawn rate when enough players kill them quickly enough), especially when farmed in groups. You can find the frogs around 65, 75.

They drop the event currency, Bronze, items you can disenchant into Bronze, Lesser Charms which you can use to increase your reputation with most Pandaria factions and get more Bronze, Timeless Coins for Timeless Isle rewards, and even Epic Threads for the Cloak of Infinite Potential! One player even reported getting 15,000k Bronze, 100,000 Timeless Coins, 3,000 Lesser Charms, and many gems is just an hour!
As the method has become more popular, actually getting to tag the mobs is the real trick here, or you need to find a time when there are fewer players there.
The community is split on the issue, as some are enjoying the very fast speed of rewards, but others aren't too happy with the very boring activity being the go-to if you want to get things done fast.
Here's a video going over the method, and showcasing some intense frog action!

So if you want tot try this out, good luck with the mob tagging and/or finding a less populated area!
