Suspensions Coming for Green Scepter Shard Griefing

Recommended Posts

Blizzard will suspend reported players who participate in the Green Scepter Shard griefing of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline, preventing others from completing it.

We’ve seen reports that on some realms, players appear to be disrupting those who are working on the Green Scepter Shard portion of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline. Specifically, by bringing uninvolved and low-level characters to engage with a required enemy and buff its stats/abilities.

As we did in original WoW, Blizzard Customer Support is going to take action on players who participate in such griefing, which could include the suspension of the player’s account.

It’s important to note that the key factor here is the presence or absence of a PvP solution. Players who are doing the quest cannot stop same-faction players (or a Normal realm, any players) from running into a boss that has a mechanic that amplifies the boss from that behavior.

Thanks to those who brought this to our attention.

why? let the world and community play out as they want it to. this is like running to mom that your brother won't stop poking you. it's childish

I'm inclined to disagree with your thought, with all due respect.  Preventing someone from completing a quest or questline is not 'playing out'.  it's dickish and more than a little obnoxious.

I am glad you are not a Game Master.

This is one of the reasons why I refuse to play Classic.  People will be douche canoes to make sure others can't complete objectives and enjoy content while they are currently online.  And this is not opposing factions this is same faction behavior.  The mentality of "lol get over it or find a better solution," is the reason why Blizzard had to step in and start banning people to begin with.  Had similar behavior with World Bosses when I use to play Aion where the Guilds would 'hire' the opposing faction to help eliminate the competition and to block anyone for particular Guilds to join/kill said World Boss.  It was so bad that the lesser Guilds stopped participating in Abyss Fort PvP and servers eventually dwindled down to one lone server.  People simply found other games to play and to enjoy and try to bypass running into that sort of behavior again.

It’s important to note that the key factor here is the presence or absence of a PvP solution. Players who are doing the quest cannot stop same-faction players (or a Normal realm, any players) from running into a boss that has a mechanic that amplifies the boss from that behavior.

Saw nobody gave you an answer yet. If I'm not mistaken players will have to defeat a (pretty hard) world boss for the quest. This boss would gain a buff anytime a player dies nearby which just keeps on stacking. Griefers would grab a (low-level) character and just run in to the boss and die while players are attempting to kill it. Because of it the boss keeps buffing until it's pretty much unkillable and thus players are unable to down it and continue the quest.

You might think the group would have to kill these players before they can reach the boss, but this is where the PVP-part comes in: the characters running in and dying are usually from the same faction and thus can't be stopped by the group.

We're looking at a player who soloed Hogger in WoW Classic at Level 1 without dying. It took them 19 minutes and 22 seconds to do so!
Here is the VoD with Hogger at ~5% health left, so you can watch how the infamous Level 11 Elite gnoll got down!

We've seen some of the weirdness that came along with the process of opening the Ahn'Qiraj gates, including a whole faction blocking one person from getting Scarab Lord for 10 straight hours (and succeeding), but there's always more! The main focus of the activities is obviously PvP, but we also have some chronicles of the actual Scarab Lord questline in there as well, and we thought it might be nice to not only check out the recent Classic opening, but also find some truly old-school Vanilla videos as well!
We start off with two videos from Gehennas EU (apparently the most PvP-heavy server in the region), as both Dreamstate and APES have made compilations of their lengthy experiences in various PvP scenarios, ranging from the gathering at the Un'goro entrance, bug farming, the re-taking of Duskwood as the Horde blockaded it, a particularly cute cameo, and just a whole lot of massive world PvP.

      Meanwhile, over on Herod:

And now it's on to some old-school stuff, starting off with a perhaps less impressive video, but a historically important one, as it was the very first ever opening of the gates, on the Medivh US server!
      A more edited one:
It really seems the vanilla videos were much more focused on the opening of the gates itself, as it was very hard to find really any PvP-focused videos, so let's take a look at probably the most famous AQ40 video instead, which inspired many to make machinimas, Jack's Ahn'Qiraj the Movie:
And here's the original gate opening trailer by Blizzard themselves:

We have a useful little discovery for enhancement Shamans in Classic, as you can combine the effect of Rockbiter Weapon with either Windfury Weapon , Flametongue Weapon or Frostbrand Weapon, so they're active at the same time! Spell batching makes this possible and it's not a universally useful technique, as it will spend a whole lot of mana, but there are plenty of situations where it might come in handy, from Vael, PvP or just the final burn phase of any boss fight if you have the mana to spare. Obviously Windfury is the best bet, as you can get all 3 of its swings with the extra 653 attack power from Rockbiter, packing quite a bigger punch.

Here's the quick video and text explanation, and thanks to GideonAI for the heads up!

Gorak's back with another of his Classic "guides", as the brave Orc has managed to clear the starting zone and found life outside it can be... different! In a pretty accurate description of what it's like to leave the Valley of Trials and assume the rest of the game will follow suit, and is honestly one of the things I miss most about retail. The machinima itself also reminds me of the old-school Vanilla videos in its simplicitiy and really captures that vibe well.

The series has been going for 2 years now and is a pretty good watch so definitely check out some more of the 16 episodes made so far!
And here's a couple words from the author:

Today's hotfixes address a commonly mentioned discrepancy between Vanilla and Classic, as some AQ20 were turned un-tradeable in Classic. Blizzard have now fixed this for the Qiraji Hilt, Drape and Ring quest items, by making them non-stackable.
      August 7 (source)
      WoW Classic
The Qiraji Hilt, Qiraji Drape, and Qiraji Ring quest items are now tradeable and will no longer stack. Developers’ note: In order to enable the ability to trade to eligible looters within 2 hours of looting the Qiraji hilts, drapes, and rings, we've removed the ability to stack multiples of them. Additionally, only one of these items are needed for the non-repeatable quest so there’s no reason for them to stack.
