Shadowlands Pre-Patch Event Preview

Recommended Posts

The Shadowlands pre-patch event has been pushed to the PTR and is now available for testing, so we're looking at what awaits us. This article contains spoilers.

Note that the event is not available for testing in its entirety and it will be probably time-gated on live servers.

Week #1

  • You receive the intro quest from Valeera Sanguinar as a Horde player. She wants to meet up with you and Lor'themar in Orgrimmar.
  • You learn that the undead Scourge is swarming in numbers not seen since the return of the Lich King.
  • A NYI cinematic starts playing where Anduin and Jaina (Alliance) // Baine and Thrall (Horde) get abducted by Sylvanas.
  • The Scourge's unbound hunger has been unleashed and it is only a matter of time before they're swarming the streets.
  • The death knights of the Ebon Blade have stepped forward to aid you and the Argent Crusade has returned to answer the call.
  • Lor'themar admits Sylvanas is a great tactician.
  • Bolvar is free of the Lich King's crown and is recovering in Acherus.
  • You are sent to the Barrens to investigate the Scourge presence in the area.
  • The Cult of the Damned is back and you must kill some of their members including ghouls that spawn from portals in the Crossroads. The Argent Crusade has come to aid your effort in the area.
  • You are sent back to Orgrimmar and are sent to Icecrown to see what's going on with the Scourge and you find out Nathanos Blightcaller has been spotted in Eastern Plaguelands, so you are ordered to slay him.
  • You secure a foothold in Icecrown and unlock daily quests there. Random bosses spawn in the zone and reward item level 100 loot (squish is already live on the PTR).

As someone who sided with Sylvanas in the BFA questline, are there nods AT ALL to my actions? Can I continue that storyline and help the guy I spent the expansion plotting with? Or are Blizz just forgetting they even gave us those half-baked options previously?

does this mean prepatch will be sometime late sept. ??

We don't know and everything is a wild guess at this point, but late September is not so unrealistic.

I was on the PTR...the new starting zone is pretty cool, but the moment you get to stormwind...bam, you are dead and are unable to progress, so i suggest they make the zombies non-hosile (ie. yellow) but attackable, which would allow low level players actually.....do the content.

If this is anything like this when it goes live, i doubt anyone that wants to actually play the game will be playing until this stupid event finishes.

A REalistic release date of this pre-patch will be maybe a few days before expansion going live, because if its 1-2 months of this insanity inducing idiocy of an event, the game will be dead before the expansion goes live.

Ouch.....4-6 weeks of not playing this game.......unless they make it optional or a max level 50 thing, where pre-50, its phased away, otherwise, the game will be unplayable.

You think so? I didn't try it, but maybe when arrives live, it's not gonna be so unplayable. Maybe it was a bug.

The issue is the starting zone was fine....the new one and the moment i got to stormwind, there were 100s upon 100s of zombies all level ?? to my lowly level 10 that killed me before i even loaded up......yeah, you can't progress.

Blizzard have posted their new policy for advertising services as of patch 9.2.7, as any boosting, carrying or similar services being advertised outside of the new Trade (Services) channel will be considered spam and "the proper actions will be taken".
      Services Advertising Policy (Source)
This week the 9.2.7 update introduces the new chat channel: Trade (Services). The Trade (Services) chat channel is used for searching and advertising services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities, keeping the original Trade chat channel available for traditional buying and selling of items and profession services.
With the separation of trade services into its own chat channel, a new policy will take place. Any boosting, carrying, or other similar services offered for gold that’s advertised outside of the Trade (Services) chat channel will be considered spam and the proper actions will be taken, so be sure to switch your service advertisements to the new chat channel when it becomes available after this week’s regional maintenance.

We're looking back at week 2 of Shadowlands Season 4 and the fated raid was the Sanctum of Domination. The other big change that arrived this past week was another Destruction AoE nerf, as well as tuning for Survival, with AoE nerfs and single-target  buffs.
An important note before we begin: as the Fated raids are switching out each week, our comparisons to the previous weeks will be a little less relevant, but we'll still mention it for context - just keep in mind it won't be a direct comparison from week to week as it was before.
      Mythic
      95th Percentile
Destruction has finally been replaced in the No.1 spot, as the nerfs and the Sanctum mixed things up quite a bit! Demonology has been waiting a long time to take over both the Warlock and overall top spot, as another very familiar face arrives back into the top 3. Windwalkers return, as they take 2nd and move 5 up from last week's Nathria position, while Elemental actually remains in 3rd, showing the specs's resilience between raids. Survival actually goes up one after its tuning and the raid switch, with Frost DKs following suit. Destruction lands in 6th after the nerfs, followed by a face we haven't seen in a very long time this high, as Fury takes 7th. Outlaw drops 3 from last week, as the Sanctum doesn't quite work as well as Nathria for them, with Unholy DKs rise and Fire remains at about the same spot. We also have a brand new bottom-slotter, as Subtletly gets a reprieve and actually moves to the middle of the pack, with Feral taking the dubious crown, while Affliction and Balance hover just slightly above.

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
Destruction falls even more in the overall bracket, as Elemental rises all the way into 2nd here, beating out Windwalker for the silver medal. Outlaw is hanging in there much more successfully, only losing 1 spot as opposed to its higher percentiles ranking. Survival and Frost DK stick together here as well, with Fury landing in the same 7th spot as in the higher percentiles. Marksmanship is doing a lot better here, however, claiming the 9th spot, just ahead of the fallen once No.1 Warlock. Arcane and Fire cluster up just outside the top 10, followed by Retribution and  Subtletly. Affliction is back in last place where it was during almost all of 9.2, with the two Druids keeping it company there.

      Heroic
The top 2 remains the same, even with the raid switch, as Demonology and Outlaw are still up there, this time followed by Fire Mage. Enhancement is still very popular in heroic, actually rising quite a bit since last week as well. Survival drops a little as Shadow stays the same, with Arms staying the top Warrior spec, despite Fury's big return in Mythic. Destruction was never as popular in Heroic as it was in Mythic in the first place, but this latest nerf sees it plummeting from its middle of the pack position from last week and straight into the bottom 2, only saved from dead last by its Affliction brother.

A new talent added on the Dragonflight Alpha lets Demonology Warlocks summon a Pit Lord for a short time.
If you pick the new Gul'dan's Ambition talent as a Demonology Warlock in Dragonflight, you will summon a Pit Lord for 10 seconds after your Nether Portal ends. The Pit Lord's power is based on how many Soul Shards you've spent while Nether Portal was up.
Gul'dan's Ambition - When Nether Portal ends, you summon a Pit Lord that gains power based on how many Soul Shards were spent, up to 10 shards, while Nether Portal was active. This demon lasts for 10 sec. The Pit Lord fights for you for 10 seconds after Nether Portal expires.
