Rextroy Solves Sockets in PvP Problem, 10% Increased Damage and Healing

Recommended Posts

Update: Perhaps as expected, this "solution" to the PvP scaling issue with gems has been hotfixed and does not work anymore.

Rextroy recently talked about the issue with socketing gems actually decreasing your performance in PvP, by raising your PvP scaling level. Well, he's since found a way around this issue, basically gaining anyone using this method an extra 10% boost in PvP! The process isn't particularly difficult, but willl require you to do it before each PvP engagement.

In simple terms, you just unsocket all your gems by placing them in void storage, re-equip the gear before entering an Arena match for example, and then place the gems back into their sockets after you've entered the arena! This will make it so the scaling elements don't apply and you get the full benefits of your gems, which adds up to about a 10% increase in damage/healing, with enough socketed gems, around as many as Rextroy has in the video:

The pvp scaling is so incredibly broken it's funny. Good thing I don't play pvp in wow, it's by far the most unbalanced and broken pvp i've seen in a game

It's a little annoying that Rextroy isn't getting the pvp ilvl of his target in these videos nor is he actually calculating the pvp scaling coefficient the game is using between his ilvl and his target's ilvl. It's that information that is actually important when taking a close look at pvp scaling.

Sharief Saleh, a commenter,  in Venruki's video on the matter actually did this and showed that Venruki's damage did increase with the verse gem but by a much smaller margin than the tooltip suggests. However, because the defensive benefit of verse is halved he would actually take more damage with the gem than without. An important question though is whether Venruki had any Versatile corruption on that increased his benefit from the gems.

(Okay, still going at this because I have nothing better to do.)

I did the math on Venruki's example and he was wearing versatile corruption. 12 gem slots x 50 verse is 600 verse. Divide by 85 and you get 7.06%. Venruki's example had his verse increase by 11%. 4/7.06 is .567. Divide that by .08 (because of the 33% versatile nerf in pvp) and you get 7.08. So Venruki was wearing 7 versatile III corruptions.

Wow, I had hoped that with versatile corruption stacking a verse gem would clearly be beneficial in all respects. It seems that the problem is that the versatility gem (or any gem) has to counteract the increase in pvp ilvl that the gem causes. Unlike a higher ilvl gear piece, you don't get any primary stat or stamina from the gem.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?
