The Pacifist Run: Player Finishes Diablo 3 Story Without Doing Anything (No Attacking, Abilities or Followers)

So, a pacifist run in a hack and slash Diablo game. Sounds extremely weird and even oxymoronic, right? Not only that, but considering the use of the Hellfire Amulet to facilitate the thorns legendary gem, it also seems pretty easy to do right? As it turns out, there are more limitations to this approach than just enemies, with the largest and most difficult being: DOORS. Basically, Chitor turned Diablo 3 into an old-school adventure game, where he had to scour the game for solutions to issues that came up, and just kept going deeper and deeper, as one solution creates another problem and so on.

If you have 10 minutes to spare, it's really worth a watch without any further spoilers, as there were constant issues surrounding that one problem, and the lengths that Chitor had to go through to get passed one in particular are truly funny and interesting, so just check out the video below. If not, there's a short run through of this particularly unique endeavour under the video.

Chitor took it upon himself to try finishing the story without ever attacking, using an ability or follower, starting from level 1 (but using Design: Hellfire AmuletDesign: Hellfire Amulet and Boyarsky's ChipBoyarsky's Chip, as mentioned) and it really turned out to be a lot harder than expected, because of those pesky breakable doors. A whole lot of ingenuity was required to actually get passed them, from relatively simple solutions like using mobs that explode to push through, but then there was the main hindrance of the entire endeavour, the door in the blacksmith's basement, as it has no enemies around it. The solution to this absolute and unyielding obstacle took a ridiculous amount of time to surpass, as Chitor actually had to level to 70 in order to be able to get passed that door (as he needed a specific legendary from his stash which had a level req of 70). This meant optimizing all the low lever gear for life regen to survive some higher difficulty farming, or this little pacifist run would take a looong time. Finally when reaching 70 and being able to use that key legendary item to open the door (and many, many obstacles later in the game), the rest of the game went normally, although parts of it really become interestingly different, like running around trying to get hit by Belial's meteors in order to damage him.

This really turned out to be a very entertaining challenge, so thanks a lot to Chitor for sticking through it!

Should be "past," not "passed" as passed is the past tense whereas past is an adverb or preposition that refers to beyond,. In both uses here he hasn't passed through the door, he's trying to GET past it.

This is correct! Just absent-minded typing, I am very much aware of the proper and correct grammar usage but thanks for the heads up!

Funny story, I'm posting another news about it right now! Seriously though, the dead game memes are reeeally tired. It's an 8 year old game with no significant updates for a LONG time, so it's actually INCREDIBLY alive considering those factors.

The game had potential and it did bring out some good ideas that other ARPG's have improved upon, but the whole game just failed to live up to it's expectations imo (and I've spent several hundred hours in it, even before Reaper of Souls launched).

But regardless there's no denying that the Diablo franchise is currently in a hold waiting for the next. Path of Diablo is what's keeping the name alive right now as far as I can tell.

This was actually rather cringy. Rather than the Firewalkers, which literally took me 2 seconds to figure out, there are several other items that would work. Thundergod's vigor works on dodge or being hit, which works fine with the pacifism motif.

  An even easier choice might have been the Ring of Hollow Whispers, which haunts nearby enemies and, I think, would break a door too. 

  Bul Kathos was possible as well, but wouldn't have solved his door problem. But none of these items were mutually exclusive.

None of those 3 solves the door problem, which is basically what the entire video and run was about. Also, regardless of that, it's still a fun video of someone trying to solve a problem.

 True enough. I would have thought Hollow Whispers could break a door, though. I wonder if it uses a proc coefficient.

      Season Theme
      Season 35 is the Season of Eternal Conflict and with it come an awesome array of killstreak rewards! Inspired by the war waged between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, you‘ll earn increasingly powerful effects as you unleash destruction upon your foes. So rack up those kills and clear the battlefields in the name of Sanctuary!
      All players will benefit from the Pandemonium bonus during Season 35. For each stack of this buff, you’ll receive a small boost to movement speed and bonus damage, ultimately capping out at 50% movement speed and 100% damage at 1000 stacks. In addition, reaching certain killstreak goals will trigger a special effect and cause even more mayhem on the battlefield:
      15 Kills: Exploding Chickens seek and destroy 30 Kills: A wide Frost Nova freezes enemies 50 Kills: Corpses rain from the sky 100 Kills: Five massive Energy Twisters are unleashed 150 Kills: Dark Geysers form beneath enemies 200 Kills: Treasure chests fall from the sky 300 Kills: A ring of fire engulfs everything 400 Kills: Meteors hail from above 500 Kills: Angels descend upon the battlefield to fight for your cause 1000 Kills: ????? This Season, we’re taking action on the great feedback we received from the community about Season 35’s Triune buff. With the killstreak mechanic, we can make sure the benefit is always traveling with you and something you won’t have to constantly reposition for. There’s still more room for exploration and innovation in the future, and in the meantime, we challenge you to push these killstreaks to their limits and discover its ultimate reward!       Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Beginning with Season 17, we began reintroducing previous rewards to make them available to players who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 35, this means awards originally available from Season 11 are returning. Pet collectors will be pleased to see the return of the Emerald Dragon. . .and, in addition to the Pant and Boot slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, the Treasure Goblins portraits will be available.

      However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic ones for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth by completing the Season 35 journey to earn the Lacuni Cub pet and the Chopping Block portrait.

      Season Journey Rewards
      If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of 5:
      Far Away: Kill the Siegebreaker Assault Beast at level 70 in under 30 seconds on Torment X difficulty. Money Ain't a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment X difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed's domain, The Vault. A Little More: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. 4 Minutes to Save the World: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment X difficulty within 4 minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Return to Top
      Seasonal Conquest
      Speaking of Conquests, we’re rotating those too! Do you love collecting lots of gold as fast as possible? You’ll be set with Avarice and Avaritia. Want to go fast while killing things? Speed Demon and Need for Speed will serve your purposes. Want to go fast while killing big things? Boss Mode and Worlds Apart are right up your alley. Divinity and Lionhearted are also making a return, if challenging Greater Rifts are more your style. Finally, if you’re keen to prove your mastery of various Class Sets, Masters of the Universe and Masters of Sets will also be returning.

      Haedrig’s Gift
      Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:
      Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. These contain a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 35:

      Blizzard have moved the launch of Season 34 back a week!
      While it was supposed to start today, Blizzard cite players not wanting the new D3 and D4 season launches to overlap on the same week, and needing more time to get the season properly set up, as the previous one ended early.

      Hi all
      We have shifted the start for the new season of Diablo III to next week.This is due to a few items:
      We received a good amount of feedback that many didn’t want overlap with the first weekend of Diablo IV’s new season. We agree so we are building out that gap and will be more mindful of that going forward.
      This will help us properly ensure account states migrate over as we had an issue with the prior season rolling early and us having to kick things back on.

      The ongoing Season 33 ends on January 19. Season 34 reintroduces the Light's Calling Season theme, which means players can obtain Angelic Crucibles, consumables that may be used to Sanctify any Legendary item, infusing it randomly with one of three new class-specific powers. Cosmetic rewards for the patch are as follows:
      Completing the Season 34 Guarian journey grants the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.

Cunning Nephalem seeking an advantage in combat will undergo an angelic trial, crystallizing a symbol of their morality into pure, otherworldly perfection. The specific celestial force imbued within by the divine is unknown—an answer waiting to be sought on the battlefield. Go forth, Nephalem!
      Season 34 reintroduces Light’s Calling. Valiant Nephalem who recover Angelic Crucibles, a new consumable item, may use them to Sanctify any equippable Legendary item, infusing it with one of three new class-specific powers at random. We wanted to use Angelic Crucibles to lean into the expertise of each class, further exemplifying its respective prowess, but through a nuanced lens. The High Heavens are home to ethereal splendor, bursting with boundless radiance—we wanted to provide players with a taste of untainted power as doled out from Heaven itself.

      Seasonal Conquests are additional goals you can complete as part of our Season Journey. To earn all the cosmetic rewards, you'll need to complete at least three of the Conquests below. The challenges available in Season 34 include:
      Sprinter and Speed Racer task you with completing Acts I through V at max level in under one hour. Want to go fast while killing things? Boss Mode and Worlds Apart are right up your alley. On A Good Day and I Can’t Stop are making a return, if leveling your Legendary Gems is more your thing. Finally, if you’re keen to prove your mastery of various Class Sets, Years of War and Dynasty will be returning along with Masters of the Universe and Masters of Sets. Best of luck! Return to Top

      It seems something went very wrong with Season 33, as it it just... ended a while ago. Players took to the forums as there was no early warning, other than a server message around an hour before it all ended. PezRadar responded clarifying that this is not intended and that Blizzard are looking into what happened.

      Heard and got some pings while I’ve been out and I have production checking on this early end. This shouldn’t have ended today so something is funky. Will provide an update once I hear back.
