Introducing ShadowlandsUI By Hodag

Recommended Posts

Hodag has created a Shadowlands-inspired User Interface that you can download on WoW Interface, and in this post, we are looking at it in more detail.

ShadowlandsUI comes with custom target frame, health/player frames, masque skin, background button art, status bars, border, map, fonts, nameplates, cast bar, and more.

You can see for yourself how the UI looks like in action (party/raid layouts included).

Quick Demo

Included Addons

  • Pitbull Unit Frames to configure unit frames, cast bar, xp/rep bar, and XP bar.
  • Weak Auras to provide custom art for the unit frames, cast bars, XP/rep bar, and “button holder” art.
  • Plater to overhaul the look of the nameplates and use the custom assets included in the UI.
  • Glass to update the look of the chatbox and enable the custom font.
  • SexyMap to update the look of the map and keep it consistent with the Shadowlands theme.
  • Masque + Masque: Shadowlands skin to skin the buttons for your action bars.
  • Bartender4 to manage your bars.
  • Slightly tweaked Details! to align with custom fonts/statusbars used in the interface.
  • BetterDamage to change the damage/healing font to align with the font used in the interface.
  • MoveAnything to move a few default blizzard UI elements around to accommodate for the UI layout.
  • SharedMedia to house some of the custom assets.
  • Slightly tweaked OmniCC to work nicely with the Masque skin.
  • Bagnon to declutter the bag icons and well its an essential addon regardless.
  • Reflux is used to help profile switching of the UI between characters and specs.
  • NibProfileLoader is used to automate profile switching upon load.

Installation Guide

  1. Backup your current Interface and WTF folders by renaming them Interface_backup and WTF_backup. These are located in your WoW directory (e.g. C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/_retail_/)
  2. Extract the ShadowlandsUI Interface and WTF folders to your /_retail_/ directory
  3. In the newly extracted WTF folder, rename the following folders to match the names in your WTF_backup folder:
ACCOUNTNAME (usually a # or account name if your account is older)
REALM NAME (name of the realm your character resides)
CHARACTER NAME (name of the character you wish to inherit ShadowlandsUI – you only need to list one. Read the FAQ if you want to use it on multiple characters)
  4. Launch WoW, choose the character you renamed the folder to and ensure all addons are selected and “Load out of date addons” is checked.
  5. Launch the game and click “Yes” when it asks if you wish to load ShadowlandsUI at the top of the screen. The interface will reload and you will be looking at the ShadowlandsUI.
  6. Ensure all nameplates are turned to “on” by hitting Ctrl+V.
  7. Right click the map and click on the button towards the bottom that says “Use global profile”
  8. *(if required) As we are in pre-patch land, a lot of addons are still under development and some settings get wonky. If you notice any LUA errors after install, reload the UI. If you notice a semi-transparent black square in the middle of your screen or on the top left of your health bar, type /pitbull and navigate to layout editor → Shadowlands Player → Indicators → Totems and uncheck enable. Do this same thing for the layout “Shadowlands Cast.”

ShadowlandsUI is now installed and configured properly. Make sure to keep all addons updated as you normally would – especially if you get weird errors as you install the UI, as you probably need to update the addons that were included in the package. If you want to copy your macros and hotkeys from your backup folder, check the FAQ.

Head over to WoW Interface for FAQ and to download the UI!

So when I use my normal WTF and Interface folders, i can see my addons, but as soon as I copy the UI folders in, and change the other ones to _backup, I dont see any addons anymore. I have changed the filenamesin the WTF folder to match the _backup, but still nothing. Anyone know of this, and has a solution?

Looks amazing in game as well, it gives the feeling of a fresh new game and while it works with most classes almost perfect, there are small issues with spell bars and balance druid spec. Where bar one shifts into Moonkin spell bar, with this UI it doesn't, note here that the bar 1 do changes for cat form and bear form.

An other issue for me is with the key binds and spell bars. I use no more than 30 binds and most of my action bars were full with spells, some macros, pots and prof icons, mounts as well (mostly mounts were unbound). I had utilised 99% of the spell space given. What happened after I installed this UI : Bar 1 shows my key binds as before but with the issue mentioned on my Moonkin, were it was left top bar (horizontal one) have disappeared and the spell icons along with them. Pressing the binds I had on those bars make the spells happen still, but no visual. I tried to find how to customise all of this and so far 0 luck. This is because, (if my understanding is correct) its a blend of many overlapping add-ons, and for me what's missing is a universal control panel. This UI feels incomplete. I look forward to a more complete version.

Moving from BenikUI (elvui edit) to try this, installation was quick and easy, also for multiple characters. Only thing I had to do over was my keybinds and skills on action bars because in my previous UI I was using different bars than what bartender uses so even swapping over savedvariables, it wouldn't have worked.

Only things I'm not too keen on atm is that I feel the nameplates could be cleaner and maybe a bit scaled up and show health numbers or % out of the box. The other thing being is that the buffs are too far tucked away and I think they need to be brough out a bit more and maybe add timers to them.

Would be nice to also have this come packaged with a scrolling combat text rather than the in-game one, something a bit clearer.
And have you thought about possibly replacing some blizz interface textures with your own custom ones? I guess it depends if uses a lot more resources ? im guessing this pack is intended to be lightweight.

Overall this is super awesome and looks really sleek and refreshing to see someone do something that's not elvui or tukui ? Thanks for making this ?

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?

Affliction is getting plenty of changes today as well, with Blizzard detailing the reasoning behind certain choices.
      Affliction (Source)
      Greetings Warlocks,
Today, we have various Core and Affliction tree changes hitting the Alpha. We want to take a moment to go a bit more in depth as to what certain changes were made and why. As a refresher, here are the goals for our Core and Afflictions that we posted last week along with some additional goals that we can dig into here.
      Class
Ensure each capstone is interesting and exciting. Reduce the amount of throughput talents, to free up utility choices. Reduce the number of ranks for talents that don’t warrant multiple ranks. Affliction
Address the tuning of Malefic Rapture in single-target and multi-target situations. Reduce complexity and the amount of active buttons that contribute to it. Erase the need to choose between a single-target or multi-target profile by adding more adaptability and flexibility. While we cannot go over every change here, we’d like to get a bit more detailed than last week’s update and explain some of the bigger changes coming in this build.
      Class Tree Throughput
We’re removing a lot of throughput talents from the class tree to allow warlocks to pick up more utility without feeling forced to take mandatory talents to be competitive. These talents aren’t compelling options when placed against utility as they will always be the right answer to have. This allows us to move that power into the specialization trees and tailor throughput-centric talents to be specific to that specialization’s gameplay.
      Malefic Rapture
In addition to becoming baseline for Affliction, we are introducing new talents that will help Malefic Rapture become the go-to spender for both single-target and multi-target situations. This should also shift Seed of Corruption to being a means to apply Corruption to multiple targets rather than what you spam in dungeons. In addition, we are redesigning Siphon Life to be friendlier to Affliction’s rotation and expect that its new design will make it easier to optimize Malefic Rapture.
      Affliction’s Adaptability
While we do want Affliction warlocks to have a preferred talent setup for single- versus multi-target situations, we don’t want it to feel like they are powerless if they are in the opposite situation. By focusing on Malefic Rapture being Affliction’s main spender and removing talents that are only valuable in multi-target situations (Soul Flame, Soul Swap, Doom Blossom, etc.), we’re hoping that the Affliction tree feels less punishing to fill out.
      Is This It?
Not at all. We expect to make changes based on feedback and our own playtesting. We want to get the ball rolling on changes we knew we want to make, so we could start the discussion early on and make adjustments before The War Within launches.
Thank you all for the continued discussions and we look forward to your feedback!
And here are the full changes from the development notes:
