Senior Artist Eric Braddock Leaves Blizzard

Recommended Posts

We have another departure from the World of Warcraft team, as Senior Artist Eric Braddock left Blizzard a few days ago. He did not specify where he was going, but he did mention "exciting new adventures ahead":

Braddock worked on WoW since 2013 and Warlords of Draenor as a prop artist creating 3D assets for the game, as well as an illustrator later on during BfA. For Shadowlands, he most notably did the legendary items that show up during the crafting cutscenes and the ring the Runecarver is standing on, in addition to a lot of Torghast as well:

He also came up with the character of Taelia Fordragon, from concept art to 3D model, as well as her backstory, where she fits in to the lore and, well, everything!

One of my most proud contributions to World of Warcraft so far is easily my creation of Taelia Fordragon, daughter of Bolvar Fordragon. She is a character I came up with, concepted, wrote her backstory, worked out her place in the lore, her personality and pitched her to our design team. I feel extremely fortunate and honored to have her in the game and am so thrilled with the way she was handled by our Quest Design team in Battle for Azeroth. It means so much to me how positively she has been received by the WoW community! Thank you all so much ❤️
This character concept was created for the initial pitch for the character and I made the armor set later for Patch 8.1 based off of the initial design.

There's more to see over on Braddock's Artstation, including a lot of Torghast, plenty of main characters, the updated Uther statue, and a lot of Hearthstone stuff too!

Will be interesting if he ends up in Dreamhaven with the rest.

I think people who expect Dreamhaven to be like old Blizzard might be disappointed. Also, this guy has been there for 8 years, so hardly the "old Blizzard".

Oh sure, he's nowhere near the impact of Kaplan or the other old guard.   It's just "interesting" that Dreamhaven set up right there in Irvine.    And a lot of people seem to be making a slightly different commute lately.

Yeah, this guys art is soulless generic mass scale produced from all the crunch time they milk in Activision.

I guess we'll see but "old Blizzard" to me just means a team that makes games because it's fun and it's their passion above anything else. Go look at some of those original pictures of early Blizz and it was just a bunch of kids that wanted to make (really wanted to make) fun immersive games.

Time will tell I guess.

Yeah, but things have changed. Sometimes having some people from "old times" isn't enough. Look at Bill Roper, he only made crap since leaving Blizzard. Rob Pardo's studio Bonfire and few others have been quiet for years and still no new games in sight. Also, one of reasons why so many devs are leaving is an increase of venture capital funding. Easier to set up new companies.

The map your characters hold when they open in-game maps has been updated in Dragonflight.
Your characters hold a map whenever you open in-game maps. The map received a brand new model in the Dragonflight expansion. On the left, we see the new map, but the character is holding it upside down). On the right, we see the old map model from live servers.

We’ve datamined some new assets tied to Controller Bindings in this week’s Dragonflight Beta build that indicate official controller support may be coming soon.
The icons show support for various types of controllers, mainly Xbox and Playstation. With the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a console port of the game does not seem so unlikely.

The Winds of Wisdom buff that increases Experience gains by 50% will return on October 4, making it an ideal time to level a new character for Dragonflight. The buff will be removed when Evokers become available for play.
Currently, the rumored launch date of the pre-patch is October 25.

If you’re just returning after a hiatus from World of Warcraft, leveling another character (or two), or preparing to get ready for the Dragonflight expansion then this is the perfect time to jump into the game. Beginning the week of October 4 with each region’s local weekly reset, all World of Warcraft* players level 10-59 will gain the experience buff called “Winds of Wisdom,” which will increase experience gains by 50%!
Don’t delay. The winds will shift once more when the new dracthyr Evoker becomes playable during the Dragonflight pre-expansion patch, and the experience buff will no longer be available.
      * Experience boost not available in World of Warcraft Classic titles.
