Huge Lag Caused by World Boss Is Becoming Unacceptable

Recommended Posts

Players have had about enough of the very intense lag that happens when Mor'geth shows up in the Maw (which is pretty often).

World Boss-related lag isn't anything new (unfortunately), however the new Maw boss is significantly more problematic and is causing a lot more aggravation than previous ones. The reason is pretty simple - previously the lag was only affecting one of the Shadowlands zones where players were, so it both affected fewer players and the lag itself wasn't as intense as there weren't as many players causing it.

Now that the focus of the world-endgame activities in on one zone, the lag has gotten worse, it's affecting SO many more players than before, and it shows with the many, many threads talking about it. Another factor of the frustration has been the fact that this is the Maw, so many were actually dying to this lag and losing their Stygia. Blizzard have now introduced a way to reduce Stygia loss by 75%, so at least that issue was somewhat improved. The general "demand" from players talking about this is to somehow instance the boss if the lag cannot be resolved, or to do something, anything to let then

While it doesn't seem like this is a very directly fixable issue, as it's been around since Shadowlands launched and Blizzard are very much aware of it, perhaps there are some side-fixes/improvements similar to what they did with the Stygia. In any case, as frustration rises, this is definitely an issue that requires attention.

It's definitely not something new, as this also happened frequently on the first day of the Mantid invasion, in patch 8.3, when the world boss was active in Pandaria. Smaller areas with many players make it all the more noticeable, naturally.

Maybe it'd just be easier if world bosses had their own small raids without any trash, something the size of Baradin Hold, to help get rid of the insane lag.

It has been with all world bosses even in before Shadowlands, they never fixed it and yet it is there i still can't believe they haven't fixed it.

what could go wrong if you put the new area, the new worldboss, the entrance to torghast/new raid and the pact attacks in one area?

It's a simple fix. World Bosses in Legion to reduce Argus lag you had to take a portal and go to a separate instanced zone. Blizzard could easily place a portal that leads into a specific part of Torghast to fight the boss. Doesn't even have to be a portal. It can be an npc that transports you to an instanced version of the zone to fight the boss.

Wrath had instanced "world" bosses with Vault of Archavon in Wintergrasp. Later we had Baradin Hold. They already know how to solve the problem. As you said, Argus also solved it with the portals. Its like they constantly forget which problems thay had already solved in the past.

I'd really like getting something like Vault of Archavon back -- maybe even deliberately designed for 40 ppl. I mean, the boss is already so close to the Thorgast entry, it is mind-boggling they simply didn't put another entrance there and made it instanced.

Players on the Beta have been noticing some slowdowns and stutters before the recent maintenance, and since it is a Beta didn't think too much of it. However, it seems at least some of those issues may have been caused by a gigantic cluster of protodrakes!
Plenty of players noticed this skinner's dream in the Waking Shores and Thaldraszus, starting with some screenshots and then culminating in a nightmare-inducing video, as the drakes fly off in search of their next victim.
If you wanted to check if the flock was still there, here's the location, but they also seem to be appearing in the Veiled Ossuary in Thaldraszus. There were also plenty of hilarious comments on the posts, so here's some of them:
I always knew the villain of the expansion was going to be the Infinite Dragonflight. - Bioslack

Even with Survival Instincts, Barkskin, and Rage of the Sleeper up all at once, I popped like a fucking grape within 3 seconds, lol. They all seem to cast something that deals ~22k damage baseline. I was able to use Anhylde's aegis to survive for 8 seconds and managed to get most of the group to like 70% health, but... again, popped like a grape once the aegis was gone. - Etamalgren

The XP buff has arrived (to NA at least, with EU getting it with tomorrow's reset)! It's time to level any new characters you had planned or old ones that aren't maxed yet, as the 50% buff will only last until the Dragonflight pre-patch. And while we don't yet know when exactly that will arrive, it's not too far away, with the expansion's release coming in under 2 months!
      Winds of Wisdom (Source)
If you’re just returning after a hiatus from World of Warcraft, leveling another character (or two), or preparing to get ready for the Dragonflight expansion then this is the perfect time to jump into the game. Beginning the week of October 4 with each region’s local weekly reset, all World of Warcraft* players level 10-59 will gain the experience buff called “Winds of Wisdom,” which will increase experience gains by 50%!
Don’t delay. The winds will shift once more when the new dracthyr Evoker becomes playable during the Dragonflight pre-expansion patch, and the experience buff will no longer be available.
      * Experience boost not available in World of Warcraft Classic titles.

Even though Dracthyr Evokers start at Level 60, Blizzard added some new intro quests in Dalaran for players that decide to go back and do Legion content for some reason.
Dracthyr Evokers do not get an Artifact weapon or Class Order Hall. When you decide to skip the Legion intro you will end up in Dalaran. A new quest will automatically pop up for Evokers called Aiding Khadgar. You are tasked to meet Khadgar within the Violet Citadel. Khadgar will have another new quest for you -- An Adventurer's Aid, where he points you to a new scouting map. The map lets you pick a Legion zone for questing. Blizzard will most likely assign Evokers an existing DPS/Healer challenge. However, the Mage Tower appears to be disabled currently on the Beta. MrGM explored Evokers in Legion content further in his latest video.
