Greetings, Adventurers!

With the March version of the public test realm releasing soon, we wanted to share a first look at some of the content you’ll be able to experience in the upcoming PTR before it eventually releases into the main New World game.

Tempest’s Heart - The Myrkgard Expedition

Isabella_HOM_FinalForm_1_V2_740x416.jpg

This update will conclude the story of Isabella. The main story quest line picks up as you pursue Isabella back to Shattered Mountain, leading to an epic final showdown. Enter the Tempest’s Heart as you venture into a corrupted dimension of reality through the twisted capital city of Myrkgard. Discover the secrets of her past while you dive deeper into her corrupted mind.

The Tempest’s Heart is an endgame expedition for 5 players. Recommended for level 60 players with Gearscore 550 or above.

New Weapon: Blunderbuss

The Blunderbuss is a ranged weapon that offers high-mobility coupled with potent close-to-mid range damage. It’s the first weapon to scale on strength and intelligence, making it a good companion for bruiser or mage builds.

Adventurers will be able to progress through two weapon mastery trees, allowing the player to choose between two distinct playstyles.

  • The Containment tree is all about closing the gap and unloading hot lead into your enemy’s face.

  • Conversely, the Chaos tree focuses on keeping your distance and bombarding areas with explosive AoE damage.

Alongside the release of the Blunderbuss weapon itself, we’re also releasing a new Legendary Weapon Quest series. Upon reaching Level 60 and the maximum skill level with the new firearm, players should seek out Wang Tang Zhi in Ebonscale Reach settlement to start this epic endeavor.

New Experiences, Balance Updates & Bug Fixes

Alongside the storyline conclusion and the new Blunderbuss weapon, this update will include new encounters in the wild, impactful balance changes across a variety of weapons, and a huge swath of bug fixes.

We’ll have more information on the PTR release of this update soon - including areas we would love feedback on before releasing the full Heart of Madness update into the main New World servers. Stay tuned for our PTR announcement article with details on how you can get involved.

As always, thanks for your support. We’ll see you in Aeternum, Blunderbusses in-hand.

PTR NOTES:

Greetings, Adventurers!

Aeternum is an ever-evolving world, and as such, we continue our efforts in providing our players with an assortment of ongoing new features, content, and changes. Similar to the activities leading up to our latest major update, we are approaching the release of our next large release and would like to once again invite you all to participate in the next cycle of our Public Test Realm (PTR)!

PTR

The Public Test Realm (PTR) is a limited-availability server-set that will give players an early look at upcoming features. These preview builds are snapshots of upcoming major releases and are not final versions — you may encounter bugs, crashes, missing text, or other issues. Between our internal testing efforts and your reports, we hope to catch and resolve all serious issues before they reach the live servers. However, not every bug or feedback piece will be actioned on before release — some changes need to be investigated further, and may come in a subsequent patch or two. Nonetheless, hundreds of changes have already been made — with more to come — and the full release notes will be shared on release day.

To help with the feedback process, all newly created PTR characters will have the opportunity to instantly level to select level-ranges outfitted with appropriate gear and items.

The PTR will officially open tomorrow, March 3, at 10 AM PST (6 PM UTC). Servers are limited — to maximize world population and encourage higher occurrences of group play, there will only be one world available for this playtest cycle, with it located within the US East regional datacenter. You may have to change your regional selection from the main menu in order to discover the available test world.

This special preview client will be made available for download through the stand-alone Steam application, “New World Public Test Realm” (which should already be in your Steam library if you own the main game). When the test period is complete and the main New World game is updated with the previewed content, all worlds will shut down and may be subject to being wiped clean. You will still see the New World PTR application in your Steam library, but there will not be active servers until the next time we announce a test.

If you encounter a bug, exploit, or have suggestions to improve a feature or piece of content, we’d love to hear your feedback on our PTR sub-forum (you can also utilize our in-game feedback tool). We will do our best to address as much of your feedback as possible before the content update makes its way to our live servers. Your participation will help us to deliver awesome content and updates in the future!

During this iteration of the PTR, we look forward to hearing your playtest feedback regarding the following changes:

New Endgame Activities

HeartOfMadness_T2_07_740x416.jpg

Tempest’s Heart - the Myrkgard Expedition

The final showdown against Isabella is upon you. Pursue the Tempest into a corrupted dimension of reality, through the twisted capital city of Myrkgard. Discover the secrets of her past while you dive deeper into her corrupted mind. The Tempest’s Heart is an endgame expedition for 5 players. Recommended for 60+ players with Gearscores between 550 and 570.

For the March PTR, players will be given strong loadouts to play frequently.

Main Storyline Finale Quest and More

The main story questline picks up as you pursue Isabella back to Shattered Mountain. The final quest, The Heart of the Tempest, is given by Yseult Meredith. They are located at Mountain Home Outpost in Shattered Mountain.

Additional repeatable quests can be taken from Mara Rosa in the cathedral just south of the expedition entrance.

New Weapon Type

The Blunderbuss

The Blunderbuss is a ranged weapon that offers high mobility coupled with potent close-to-mid range DPS. It’s the first weapon to scale on strength and intelligence, making it a good companion for bruiser or mage builds. The Containment tree is all about closing the gap and unloading hot lead into your enemy’s face. Conversely, the Chaos tree focuses on keeping your distance and bombarding areas with explosive AoE damage.

New Legendary Weapon Quests

Alongside the release of the Blunderbuss weapon itself, we’re also releasing a new Legendary Weapon Quest series. Upon reaching Level 60 and maximum skill level with the new firearm (granted to you automatically in the PTR), players should seek out Wang Tang Zhi in the Ebonscale Reach settlement to start this epic endeavor.

Many more changes have been made across the entire New World experience. Check out our PTR Release Notes for a bigger picture and let us know what you think on the PTR subforum!

PTR Backstory Loadouts

Upon character creation on the PTR, players will be given multiple caches of special armor and weapons. Each cache has a designation based upon a general build based on a main attribute: CON, DEX, INT, FOC, and STR. To help manage the sudden onset of new items, do not open all provided caches at once, or you risk becoming encumbered! Instead, equip all provided bags and then follow-up with opening each cache deliberately. Any undesired caches can be dropped or deposited into your personal settlement storage.

PTR FAQ

HOW DO I ACCESS THE NEW PTR?

Everyone with a copy of New World will be automatically granted access to the secondary PTR app. The PTR is not compatible with the live game, so you will need to download a separate client (and have the hard drive space required to support it). From there, we will have special worlds available within supported regions. Not all regions will initially be supported. Access is on a first come, first served basis. There may be queues.

CAN I PLAY WITH OR TRANSFER MY LIVE CHARACTERS TO THE PTR?

Unfortunately, no. These are separate ecosystems, so at this time it is not possible. However, to make testing easier, we will occasionally provide our play-testers with special accommodations such as instant levels, special gear, etc.

CAN I PROVIDE DESIGN FEEDBACK REGARDING WHAT’S INCLUDED ON THE PTR?

Preview game builds on the PTR are finished with their core development and are in their final phase of testing and bug fixing. Our main focus at this phase is improving quality, although we will appreciate any feedback you have to share.

I HAVE A PROBLEM; HOW CAN I CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT?

Our policies and Code of Conduct cover the PTR, and in-game moderation will continue to be supported. Unfortunately, due to the temporary and potentially unstable nature of the PTR, general Customer Service assistance through both Live Chat and through the Support Website will not be available.

I DON’T WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PTR, CAN I REMOVE THE APP FROM MY LIBRARY?

Don’t worry, no offense taken. Players can manage visibility of the New World Public Test Realm Steam Library entry. Opening up the game options (right-click > Manage) offers the “Hide Game” function.

Thanks for your support and participation! We'll see you in Aeternum.

Experience the ultimate challenge in New World: Aeternum with the upcoming "Hardcore" Seasonal World — where danger is relentless, and only the strongest survive. Are you ready to prove your skill?
Speed. Strategy. Survival. These are the three key themes that describe New World: Aeternum's upcoming season, the "Season of the Divide". Approximately one month into this season, their will be an all-new season world that's temporarily opened up for players to truly test their skills - a Hardcore mode.
Within this hardcore server, players will begin in a "unfallen" state, gaining access to elite rewards if they survive without dying. Die once, and you will forfeit the ability to unlock the unfallen rewards as you accomplish the specific challenges. However, there's a twist - unlike other "hardcore" versions of games, your character will not be deleted upon death. Instead, they'll get buffed!
Characters that die within this season will lose their "unfallen" status, taking away the potential of receiving those unique rewards, but will also receive additional attribute points, allowing you to continue playing on the server, help your friends, and learn more about specific difficult battle mechanics.
The season 8 Hardcore seasonal world will only be available for a limited time and will launch in early June. More news regarding the official release date and potential rewards are coming soon.
To learn more about the upcoming hardcore seasonal world coming to New World: Aeternum, watch the video below.

      Hardcore Seasonal World
Speed. Strategy. Survival. This season’s Seasonal World, Hardcore, introduces a thrilling twist to character progression. New characters begin in a “unfallen” state, gaining access to elite rewards if they survive without dying. Die once, and you will forfeit the ability to unlock the unfallen rewards. However, your character will remain, and your experience on the server will become easier. You’ll still have plenty of other rewards to chase and unlock for your account and primary characters, even after you’ve fallen. If you’ve never experienced some of the pinnacle group content, or struggled to find a group, this server is the perfect place to power up and dive into that content with ease.
Leveling and gearing up is faster than ever in this limited-time world with a completely different, streamlined main questline to follow. Artifact equipment limits are lifted, allowing players to power up like never before. Push yourself to the brink or reroll to reclaim your unfallen glory. The choice is yours.
The Season 8 Hardcore Seasonal World will only be available for a limited time and will launch in early June. Look forward to more details closer to launch.
Outpost Rush (OPR) New Map LIVE: Coral Divide
The Coral Divide Outpost Rush map makes its debut this season after several preview showcases. Fight for control in a vibrant, ocean-themed arena designed to emphasize verticality, tactical flank routes, and intense center fort clashes.

New PvP Modes & Maps (Capture the Flag)
During Season 8, there will be a number of preview events featuring new PvP modes and new maps for existing PvP modes. These limited time events occur throughout Season 8 and each will be active for several days. Exact dates for the preview events will be shared during the season.
      Capture the Flag Preview
Capture the Flag is a new PvP mode coming to New World: Aeternum that players will have a chance to test during Season 8. This exciting new mode pits two teams of 10 players against each other in a fast-paced fight to control the team’s flag. Score as many captures as you can in the limited time to win. Powerups and Jump Pads in this mode make it feel more competitive and unlike any other PvP mode in the game. We look forward to sharing all the details about this new mode before our test events, so stay tuned!
      Outpost Rush: Barebones
Outpost Rush: Barebones is a new spin on our most popular game mode that attempts to level the playing field completely. In this version, all gear perks are disabled and everyone is bumped up to max gear score. If you feel like your gear isn’t good enough for PvP or want to prove that you’re better than your gear, join us!
      3v3 Arena Map Preview Weekend
The team will also preview their latest offering for 3v3 Arenas that features the largest arena to date set in an ancient temple grove. The death fog closes in sooner in this map causing an early ranged advantage to quickly become a melee advantage.
      Expedition Unleashed: New Open-World Bosses
Take on colossal threats during limited-time, open-world events featuring iconic enemies from Expeditions. Players can rally together to defeat level 70 bosses for up-leveled loot (GS 715–725). Each event grants one guaranteed 725 GS item and multiple 710+ items. Look forward to the bosses Mammoth Mahantaram, Scarab Boss Khepri, and Fire Naga Ifrit making appearances during Season 8.

      Barbershop
Reimagine your character at the Barbershop, available now at every Stylemancer! Use Barbershop Tokens—earnable through gameplay or purchasable in the Store—to tweak your appearance. All players can earn a free token in the Season Pass!
      Seasonal Events & Bonuses
There will also be a handful of returning events coming in Season 8, including the Springtide Bloom, the Fury of the Spriggan, and some all-new Faction Fest activities.
      New Artifacts
Season 8 introduces a handful of new weapons, including the following:
Old Crown (Head) – +10 to all attributes, comes with bonus gem functionality. Relentless (Tower Shield) – Team armor aura and enhanced healing. Vampire Vestments (Light Chest) – Lifesteal and mana synergy. Wit (Sword) – Increased threat and damage mitigation on crits. Chaos (Blunderbuss) – Launch enemies with fiery blast shots. Runic Greaves (Heavy Feet) – Speed boost after using Heartrunes. Lich Gloves (Light Hands) – Empower stacking with ability usage. Combat & Quality of Life Updates
Additionally, there are a handful of combat and quality of life updates coming to Season 8, including:
PVP Camps - Open world PvP is getting an upgrade! Players flagged for PvP will now be able to place or bind to faction-only destructible camps. Hunt down and destroy enemy faction camps to remove your enemy’s ability to respawn close to the fight, creating a more strategic experience in Influence Races and open world PvP combat. Ready Up – Start PvP matches faster when enough players opt in. Spectator Cam – Watch the battle after death in select game modes. Survival Potions – 5 new potions to choose between to modify different aspects of survivability in combat: Burst Regen Potion - A small burst of healing followed by a passive regen for a duration (Combination of Health and Regen potions) Health Shot Potion - Similar to a health potion but provides with less healing, but can be used more often Shield Potion - Grants damage reduction for 3 hits taken, lasts until timer runs out or until the hits are taken Grit Potion - Grants the uninterruptible effect for the duration Lifesteal Potion - Increases the power of all lifesteal effects for the duration. Target Lock Updates - Target lock and aim assist were added primarily to assist controller players to compete with mouse and keyboard aiming, but when combined they made aiming almost completely unnecessary. In retrospect, we feel that removing aiming as a necessity on controller harmed the skilled nature of our combat so we’ve made some changes to target lock to bring back the skill. We’ve reduced the amount of aim assist you receive when locked onto enemy players on controller, making it harder to hit moving targets, but have also tuned aim assist to work better with controller outside of target lock. The goal was for target lock to still be useful in certain situations, but players must now manage it more actively since it isn’t as simple as just locking on a target and expecting everything to hit. Target lock now breaks when your target moves behind the camera. This was changed to add more counter-play to target lock as you can dodge through someone to break their lock and it’s now more difficult to track a target that is actively trying to disengage your lock. Target lock also now breaks when entering aim down sights. We’ll be keeping an eye on this feature in the future and will make more tweaks to dial things in as needed.

Outpost Rush: Coral Divide Preview 2
The team has taken the initial OPR feedback and suggestions from the first preview weekend of the Coral Divide OPR map and have made key changes and fixes to help with the playability of the map. Join the team again for a second preview from April 15th - April 22nd.
Changes made for this preview include:
Cleaned up the environment collision to aid in navigating the map. Removed vegetation to help with visibility and performance. Adjusted fort entrances so they are equally distant from Sol outpost, allowing both teams to arrive at the same time. Adjusted lighting to reduce saturation and improve visibility throughout the map. Reduced the cost of buildable bridges to 40 stone/40 wood and made them buildable from both sides. Removed the barriers leading to Baroness. Adjusted the subterranean areas of the map to improve visibility. Fixed an issue that allowed player to mantle wall of Star Outpost in the original Outpost Rush. Fixed an issue where players were able to platform into Sol & Astra outposts, bypassing the gates. Fixed an issue that caused Outpost Luna icons in Trench to not appear when zoomed in. Fixed issues where the terrain was raised above the ground in multiple areas.
      Notable Fixes
The notable fixes made in this update include the following:
The team is currently looking into the cause of VFX culling across Aeternum and have implemented changes that will resolve some of these VFX culling issues, but not all of them. This is a high priority for our team, so we will continue to dive into this to provide a full fix. Fixed an issue with body blocking in raids on PvP servers when players are differing factions Fixed an issue causing Typhon to sometimes remain in phase two when phase three is initiated. Fixed an issue that allowed players to activate Hatchet's Berserk ability without playing its animation. Fixed the Season Pass 'Hail to the King Seasonal World Bonus Challenge' Task not mentioning you need a melee weapon equipped for the challenge to be completed. We look forward to seeing you in Aeternum!
