New Action Bar Animations in Patch 10.1.5

Recommended Posts

Blizzard has implemented new action bar animations in Patch 10.1.5.

Action bar animations received updates in the forthcoming update.

We have new animations for global cooldowns and whenever spells come off cooldown. The spell icon has been updated with a "progress bar" animation, letting you know when a spell cast is finished.

MrGM created a short video showcasing them all.

Nice touches. When are they going to fix the issue of the target cast bar being glued to the target name frame? Unless you use addons, you can't move the target name frame without leaving a ton of space below it for the cast bar. Target cast bars have to be seen and I'd argue they are far more important than action bar animations.

I have to admit that my action bars are not really where I'm looking at for this information, but it's pretty.

If I were to have Blizz doing small touchups to my action bars based on actionable things, I might have liked fading out so I can best tell what I cannot cast because it's unavailable and differently what I cannot cast because I lack mana or resource points.

Unavailable I'd enjoy greyed and maybe with a stained-out edge.  Arcane Blocked or other preventions.  But also for if I tweak a talent tree mid dungeon and haven't taken the swapped-out thing off my bar.

Lacking Resource I'd prefer either alpha-dimmed and/or sepia-toned.  I know they can do sepia toning 'cuz it's one of the S.E.L.F.I.E options so they just have to pinch some code from that.   I mean, I can probably have a mod do this.

"I am not permitted" is different from "argh I can't" and the features offered above are more about "yay yes it's doing The Thing" and I'm sure there are people out there that this will definitely help.

It occurs to me that many people who've spent time arranging their stuff so things only flash if they are in immediate need of being decided on (e.g. a talent lets one of 3 things get a free casting) might hope to turn this new feature off.

Action bar contents are for me, a thing in my peripheral vision.  A hint.  It's a good start.

My concern is overbloat-blinkies. There's already a lot of flashing stuff going on in the screen, and not a lot of "static, easy to see" stuff in the same sense (Think FF).
Will it be possible to disable? - otherwise addons is the option, I guess.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?
