Augmentation Evoker Guide Writer Interview

If you plan on giving the new Augmentation Evoker spec a try next week, our guide writer Saeldur will tell you more about it.

Welcome to Icy-Veins as our new Augmentation Evoker Guide Writer. Please introduce yourself and tell us more about you.

Hi! I’m Saeldur, the new guide writer for Augmentation for Icy Veins.

I’m a passionate World of Warcraft player that enjoys playing at a high level and who does the theory-crafting for Evoker and other classes. I’m currently raiding with the guild Turtles on the Tarren Mill server. I’m super excited about the new Augmentation spec that is added in the 10.1.5 patch and look forward to playing a support role.

Besides being involved in the Augmentation Evoker Community, what is your background in WoW?

I picked up the game back during Battle for Azeroth with the release of Uldir with some IRL friends and had a blast as a Subtlety Rogue. Ever since then I’ve been playing more and more and getting more involved in both theory-crafting and high end raiding while trying out new classes every tier.

During The Eternal Palace, I settled on playing Shadow/Discipline Priest as my primary class.
I started Theorycrafting Shadow Priest at the end of BFA, helping with implementation for Shadowlands, and then helped Publik maintain the Shadow Priest Simc module and was involved with Evoker theorycrafting since the alpha release of the class.

I reached my highest point during Sanctum of Domination with Bloom (Draenor) as a Disc Priest where we ranked world 70th before taking a break from the game till Dragonflight.

Can you tell us a bit more about the upcoming Evoker specialization?

Augmentation Evoker brings a fresh new coat of paint to DPSing in WoW. Augmentation is the first fully support-oriented spec they’ve added to the game and it looks like it’s going to make waves on the Meta.

Augmentation is a DPS-focused support with most of the class revolving around buffing the damage of other DPS dealers to contribute to a raid but you also bring unique utility to the raid with spells like Spatial Paradox, Bestow Weyrnstone, or, Draconic Attunements with Aspects’ Favor which acts like a party wide Rallying Cry.

How do you see Augmentation Evokers' role in the meta and the compositions of Raiding and Mythic+ respectively?

For raiding I can see Augmentation being a new “raid buff” where everyone will likely want at least one player with the spec. Augmentations rotation leans heavily towards having power in cooldown spells. This allows Augmentation to do mechanics on raid encounters while losing minimal DPS similar to how BM hunters have in the past provided value to the raid. This combined with the unique utility offered by Augmentation can easily offset lower damage, making tuning less of a concern and making them a worthwhile raid spot.

Additional Augmentations in high-end Mythic raid progression will be tuning-based, with a maximum of approximately 3.

For Mythic+ the value of Augmentation is going to be way more based on their relative tuning than it is in raid which makes it harder to predict how it’ll end up.

However, the defensiveness provided by having an Augmentation in a push environment is not to be underestimated. Bringing both Zephyr and Aspects’ Favor to a key group may allow them to run higher key levels than previously possible without being one-shot by mechanics or just letting the group survive through burst damage.

In terms of strength, where do you think Augmentation Evoker will be stronger - in Raid or Mythic+ settings?

Primarily Raiding as it stands, although I think it will be significantly dominant specifically in cutting edge Mythic+ keys where every last bit of damage and survivability matter.

Do you have any advice for new players that like to try out Augmentation Evoker?

Don’t overcomplicate things!

While there’s a lot of optimization based around “who should I buff” and when you should buff them you can still enjoy the class without considering that. Just throw your buffs on a friend or leave them to the auto-targeting Blizzard has built in. When you get used to the general rotation and feel of the class and once you’re comfortable with the spec consider looking into optimization.

Do you have anything else to add that our readers should know?

Augmentation is a very forgiving spec and this makes it relatively easy to pick up and play at any content level whether you are a veteran, a returning player, or completely new.

For further information about Augmentation, you should read my spec guide that will soon be available on the site (Link TBA) or ask questions in Wyrmrest Temple discord (https://discord.gg/evoker) where I can be found.

Blizzard has updated the official Dark Heart patch notes with more details about the daily lockout for Mists of Pandaria content and BfA raid nerfs to improve soloing!
      (Source)
Hello! We updated the Dark Heart patch notes with the following changes:
      DUNGEONS AND RAIDS
The lockouts for the following raids in Mists of Pandaria content now reset each day, for both Dragonflight and WoW Remix characters: Normal and Heroic 10-player Mogu’shan Vaults, Heart of Fear, Terrace of Endless Spring, and Throne of Thunder. Normal and Heroic 10-30 player Siege of Orgrimmar Mythic 20-player Siege of Orgrimmar Raid lockouts will return to a weekly cadence after WoW Remix closes. Battle for Azeroth raid mechanics which block legacy encounter completion for small groups have been adjusted to be more permissive. Groups of five or fewer players should no longer be blocked by mechanics that cannot be completed at that raid size.

WoW's next expansion is already full of amazing new features, but it might just have one more ace up its sleeve! The ability to change colors on, well everything really, has been one of the top community request since forever, and there are some hints that some form of a dyeing system could be in the works!
Prolific community dataminer keyboardturn has been poking away at the War Within Alpha sine it arrived, and today she's found a big one. Starting with a cryptic thread, she slowly unveiled her detective work:
Seems like a version of the gold/blue dress thing from a while ago, right? Not quite. As she says in the first tweet, there's a lot more to it:
And finally, the extremely excited conclusion:

This also isn't the only indication at a dye-related system appearing either. A much less indicative clue was found earlier on the Alpha as well, as the Azj-Kahet city of the War Within actually hosts some interesting NPCs, with not only dye vendors available, but also dye removers and a dyed fabric vendor as well:

Now, a version of this was already in the game for a while, but this is a significant broadening of it, as keyboardtun explains:

Seems like a lot of indications of something going on, right? Now, what exactly these vendors are for isn't exactly crystal clear. What exactly would we be dying? Could it be the extremely and infinitely asked-for gear dying? That seems a little less likely, especially right off the bat, as re-colored gear sets are  very large part of WoW's transmog reward scheme. So what else could it be? Perhaps tailors will be able to craft specific and special pieces of gear that can be dyed? Or maybe this isn't even gear-related at all and there's a whole other system being added that this would be used for (*cough*housing*cough*)? Of course it also might just be an internal thing, unrelated to players at all, and the vendors are just for something else.
The tech does seem to be developed, but for precisely what purpose will remain a mystery until Blizzard reveal it. What would you want it to be?

The Remix limited time event arrives this Thursday May 16th, and Blizzard have prepared an overview video covering all its major features!
As Classic and retail players can dive in (as a Dragonflight expansion is not required), many players will be able to experience Pandaria once again, except with some major twists. All classes and specs are getting new abilities through various types of gems you can socket into the newly revised gear, everything can drop from everywhere, and there's even an awesome Bronze currency (which also drops from everywhere) which allows you to get a whole host of MoP mounts and transmogs!
There's a lot more to it as well, so let's dive in:

We finally have a full rotation of Awakened raids behind us! Amirdrassil is back and with it, very appropriately, the Fyr'alath wielders take over entirely. As usual there's plenty of movement all over the place with a new raid, as things look relatively similar to where we left them in Season 3.
Note: We are using Normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. The u.gg rankings at the bottom are raw DPS. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it's AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.
      Mythic
      Overall Damage 95th Percentile
Amirdrassil is very thematically on-point, as its own legendary axe, Fyr'alath, is very much dominating the standings. Unholy and Arms rule the very top, and only Arcane manages to pierce the axe boys to gran 3rd, with Retribitution breathing down its neck. This brings Unholy up to be best spec across all three raids, as former lead Frost Mage is way down around the middle of the pack here. Speaking of Frost, the DK version is on the move up as well, just below Assassination, with Shadow right behind it, as the Priest remains pretty stable throughout all three raids. Windwalker is back in the top 10 as well, joined by previous No.1 Devastation and its Vault partner Marksmanship. Subtlety and Survival make their way down to the bottom 3 to join Augmentation.

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
Things are even more on-theme in the generalist bracket, as all three top spots are taken by legendary axe wielders! Assassination is doing even better here, pulling in front of Arcane, with the tag-team of Marksmanship and Windwalker also doing some really good work. Affliction makes an uncommon appearance in the top 10, beating out Shadow for 7th, as two previous raid top dogs find themselves at the end of the top 10.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Boss Only Damage All Percentiles
The top 3 is Fyr'alath dominated here as well, with Assassination and Shadow sticking to the top. Feral pops up pretty high, and we see Fire after quite a while, with Subtlety and Demonology finding their way to the bottom.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
Even the usually raid-agnostic Heroic is impacted by Amirdrassils love of Fyr'alath, as we see Arms move up 1 spot into 2nd and Retribution climb 3 in 3rd. Nothing can stop Arcane here, of course, with the short fights just being too perfect for the bursty spec.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

      U.GG Raw Mythic DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks. This chart is for Mythic only.
Its not the axe at the very top in the raw DPS chart, as Affliction returns to the No.1 spot, as it was in regular Amirdrassil. We do see two Fyr'alath enjoyers right after that, however, and the third one isn't too far away down in 6th. Demonology is the other big difference between the raw DPS and normalized, sitting in 5th as opposed to being in the bottom half above.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for more information you can check out our Dragonflight class guides, Vault, Aberrus and Amirdrassil boss guides, the raid DPS tier list, as well as more data from Warcraft Logs here.
