What's Coming in the War Within Pre-Patch?

Recommended Posts

75608-world-of-warcraft-110-the-war-with

We're looking at what to expect from the War Within pre-patch coming later this year!

The War Within pre-patch will release one month before the actual expansion which is slated for Summer 2024. The latest MrGM video deals with everything you can expect from the pre-patch, so let's dive in!

  • War Within Pre-Patch Event - we can expect some invasions and catch-up gear, transmog, and mounts.
  • Warbands - “Account-wide everything” is coming in the pre-patch; bank, reagents, transmog, everything will be account-wide. You can collect all transmog across all armor types.  You can also expect account-wide reputation, but it comes with a caveat; not all reputation will be account-wide. At the beginning, the plan is to make the latest War Within reputation/renown account-wide with more reputation like Dragonflight and Shadowlands Renown being added in the future. Achievement progress will be account-wide. Flight Paths are going to be account-wide as well. Warbands also bring a new item time called "Warbound Until Equipped". You cannot trade them but you can give them to your characters.
  • There's a new login screen with 4 of your alts sitting around a campfire.
  • Dynamic Flight - You will be able to change between static and dynamic flight in your spellbook. Static flight is old-style regular flying and dynamic flight is dragonriding. A ton of old mounts have been updated to support dynamic flight. Druid's flight form will support static and dynamic flight.
  • Dragonriding glyphs will shift to an evergreen system.
  • Cross-Realm Guilds - Cross-Realm Mythic Difficulty will be available from Day 1. You can freely recruit players regardless of the realm they play on.
  • Class Changes - Any War Within class changes and talent updates will already be implemented in the pre-patch. However, expect classes to be balanced for War Within not pre-patch content.
  • Leveling Changes - Dragonflight will be the default leveling experience from Level 10-70. Battle for Azeroth will be added to Chromie Time. Dracthyr Evokers will start at Level 10.
  • User Interface Updates - The spellbook will be updated with a new look. Filters to show/hide objectives will be added. The objective tracker will also be updated.
  • Many Achievements / Rewards Removed - While this hasn't been specifically mentioned in the video, Blizzard will remove many Season 4 achievements and rewards. The Mythic Fyrakk mount will no longer be a guaranteed drop, the Dragonflight Keystone Master Season 4 mount reward will be removed alongside the gladiator mount. I believe the Ahead of the Curve achievement will no longer reward a mount and chances are the rewards from the Dragonflight meta-achievements like Neltharion's Legacy Neltharion's Legacy will also be gone.

Please tell me the difference between upcoming drops being "Warbound Until Equipped" and nowadays items being " Bind on Account."

I think the selling point was that Ion said most (but not all) gear will be warbound until equipped whereas atm the majority of gear is just soulbound

Ok, but I still see no reason for implementing another type of loot binding that does exactly the same thing as the one we already have.

So everything is something but not everything is something.
I'm starting to wonder if i am getting old here - because I feel like this is just poor communication.

It's solely for the sake of gearing your alts while you're playing your main or whatever else you play.

I think they said elsewhere that all the reputations for the war within will be account wide while they're working to make the rest of the reputations into being account wide as well. It does read a little strangely so I can understand the confusion if you're going off this alone.

They could use "Bind on account" that we already have for that reason, not having to "invent" new iteration of the same.

They're not quite the same.  Bind on Account items can be freely shared among multiple characters on your account.  They never bind to just one character; you can pass them around and reuse them.  Warbound gear is effectively BoA when obtained, but, once equipped, is bound to one character from then on.

I don't know the details of the tech but BoA may be bound only to the WoW account? If that's the case, then Warbound until equipped has a bigger scope cause it covers all WoW accounts on a Battle.net account.

There could also be a difference in soulbinding. Do BoA items soulbind when equipped? If not, maybe it was easier to make a new binding tech rather than adding complexity to BoA.

From my understanding the difference is bind on account can only be put in the characters bank to store or send to an alt through mail. Warbound until equipped can be placed in the warbound bank tab. When you login on an alt that can use the warbound gear they can take it out of the bank equip it and then it becomes soulbound to that character.
