Thousands of Attempts, 15 Years in the Making: The Love Rocket Drops (and Not) of 2024

Recommended Posts

Another year, another (few) hundred attempts at the Love Rocket/X-45 Heartbreaker mount for a lot of players. Love Is in the Air ended a while ago, and players have been comparing how they did in THE most arduous mount grind available in WoW today (yes, move over Invincible, you’re just a common drop in comparison).

We have players that have been going at it for FIFTEEN years now, with no luck, running the dungeon for the mount on many different characters - but some managed to strike gold this year! So, let’s take a look at some player reactions at getting the mount, or, more likely, not.

First we have the eternals as I call them, who have been going at it for a LONG time. Bob claims to have been trying for 20 years and still didn’t get one (but seeing as the event has only been around for 15 years, he's exaggerating a little - but it definitely feels like 2 decades), but that hasn’t stopped him from he will trying again next year.

“Honestly - 20 years and still no drop? That’s insane. I can respect rare drops, but fuck this shit. They talk about ‘higher chance on first character’ and ‘bad luck protection’ - but it’s BS for the Love Rocket (or the new name).Edit: I’m a bit less pissed knowing there are others out there. Good luck to you all next year.“ - ItsFuckinBob

“I've had every other holiday mount for 10+ years and yet the love rocket still eludes me. I run it on about 10 toons every day for the duration of the event for the past 15 years” - Forsaken-Let8739

But that’s not all when it comes to rarity, as plenty of players have not only not gotten the mount, they’ve never even seen anyone get it in the many, many groups they’ve run the dungeon with! Now that’s partly due to the mount not dropping as loot directly, but it’s still pretty demotivating.

"That's the crazy thing. In all my years running to get it, I've never seen it drop for anyone." - JayIT

Even looking at just the current year, players are putting an insane amount of time for the mount, with no luck:

"750 kills, 30 hours in the dungeon, no mount or saddle drop. Guess I'll just have to get it next year ?" - DeeRez

There actually are those that do get it, and here are some that have ended their suffering this year:

"15 years I got mine this year… 30 toons a day I did about 400 runs this year it will drop!" - jvaughn95

"I've done it since the event was introduced into game and finally got it this year (there is hope!). I just stared blankly at the screen and very calmly said "I got it..." and my husband whirled around and was like what? the mount? YOU GOT IT! - he sounded more excited than me lol. I was just numb after years of trying. So glad!
Now the saddle won't drop but oh well XD" - NeoSakurie

And then, of course, there are the (much disliked) lucky ones:

"Got mine on 2nd run.." - shittysituationz

"I was away for work for all but 2 days of the event I have 2 max lvl toons got it day 2 ?" - sueybro

"Ran it for years now but this year I went HARD. 14+ characters per day and I leveled 2 of them during the event! My WIFE walks in one time this event and gets it. Once. I'm not angry I love that she has it but ooooooh my goooooooood blizzard can we please just have a 500 run achievement for it or something at this point. I'm sure I'm close." - PolyWolyDoodal

"My wife just dropped it after 3rd attempt. I am fuming." - xdCms

And then there are people like , who have a pretty good argument on the whole thing, trying to break the cycle of people getting more and more annoyed chasing the mount:

So, how did you fare this year? How long have you been at the hunt, and when exactly did it start to annoy you? Or have you just been ignoring it entirely?

Fifteen years, over 30 characters. I feel the luck~ (still haven't gotten it, nor the new dragon armor they added)

I hate RNG.

I feel ya man. Farmed Invincible for four years before finally getting it. The sensation of getting the mount is just like crack 🤣

That's exactly why I NEVER farm those kind of almost-non-existant-dropchance things. I do 2-3 tries per event. I did 1-2 run per raid in total, and that's it. I know it will be a MASSIVE loss of time and I don't want to go in Blizz game with their dishonnest droprate mounts system (and items).

Luckily im not into these mount farmings

Especially you will never use them all

It will be forgotten you just randomly pick one and that's it.

I've the addon Rarity installed and it tells me how many attempts I have had on it. I only installed it about 5 years ago but I have been running the event before then so its not fully accurate. Across 40 toons running them all everyday when the event is up. I'm up too 2456 attempts. Here is to next year boys and girls.

I got the love rocket this year.

I still have not gotten Invincible, at least not on my current account.  I did have it on a previous account a few years ago.

Don't have it yet, don't really need it either. For now I always randomly did the dungeon whenever I feel like it, just because there's that very small chance of getting a mount. I'm not expecting it, just know that it's there. I know that if I get it I will have 5 minutes of happiness and the feeling of being lucky, before realising I'm never going to use it anyway and then it starts gathering dust in some unseen corner of my mount pile and the drop will be nothing more but a +1 to my mount count. Also, from that day on I will have no reason left to do that dungeon yearly.

I'm just glad I'm not a mount farmer and feel the need to have every single mount out there. To me it's the same as people who have hundreds of pairs of shoes at home, I'll never understand it.

I have been trying for it for years, my wife just started playing the game, and she gets it her first time in there

I have seen a pattern looking over all these posts and comments, I think you just have to be a wife to get it easily.

Funny part; I farmed it on 30~ chars for 5 years --- when it finally dropped, I felt only anger and disapointment, I felt like I had wasted time, thinking back on the times I was told "lol I got it on first try" -- or see a person in guild get it after less than 10 tries etc.

It's just horrible, allaround.
Killed my entire drift for farming - for fun -.

We've all seen the giant Hallowfall crystal and just how great it looks, but as it turns out, the light emanating from it actually changes in a sort of strange day/night cycle, and we get a really awesome transition into Void light animation!
First off we can see a snippet of the change in Blizzard's official short preview of the zone:
And then there's this extended look at the switch, showcasing just how impressive the animations are, by PreachGaming's Chunkeyninja:
And here's a slightly better look at the Void to Light transition, courtesy of Kexman:
The exact timing on the cycle isn't 100% clear, but MrGM noted how it works on the Alpha right now, with a 3 hour cycle, as the Void part remains active for 30 minutes:

Hopefully we'll also get some lore to go with the transition, as the light into void thing is pretty thematically interesting, as well as being really visually impressive.
